I have been married for more than 30 years to my dear husband Nicholas Hunt. We have 2 wonderful children and 3 cats. Much of our life was spent in the book business in Vancouver; now we have a gallery of studio furniture and landscape art. We love to cook, eat, walk, read, garden and play bridge.
Celia Duthie purchased this studio in 2004
We chose our location because it is a very pretty property and lovely cottage; we are close to Ganges so we and the kids can walk there and our gallery is also within walking distance for boaters.
Visitors to the Gallery B&B will enjoy the art and studio furniture in the suite, the landscape art and sculpture on the property and the stunning and original work in the Duthie Gallery. As hosts we can recommend restaurants, studios and excursions, and provide maps of trails for hikes and rambles.
The suite is completely private, with a private entrance; guests will feel they're in their own place while staying with us at the Gallery B &B.
The kitchen is well equipped for gourmet cooking and when in season fresh greens and vegetables from the garden will also be available.
With our background in books, and being serious readers ourselves, there is always a good supply of current books and magazines available in the suite.
Visitors to our Gallery B&B suite will also enjoy its close proximity to Ganges village, Churchill beach and, for lavish dining, the Hastings House hotel, directly across the street.
This was the perfect place for me and my daughter on a rainy November weekend. Close enough to walk to Ganges proper, but still quiet and private. Beautiful at night with the sculptures lit up. We would stay there again for sure.
Our visit to Salt Spring Island was car free and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We caught the bus from the ferry and it dropped us off at the corner, steps from our accommodations. The suite is lovely and comfortable and is run by the owners of the Duthie Gallery. It's a short walk to the town of Ganges and far enough that it's peaceful and quiet both day and night. The sculpture garden attached to the Duthie Gallery is lovely to enjoy and steps from the private backyard that comes with the suite. It was wonderful to come into the suite and have fresh baked bread, some local fruit, homemade preserves, and all the fixings for a breakfast or snack. The only drawback for us was that the suite is open concept and if one person is awake it's difficult to let the other person sleep. Our contact person was Kevin and he was helpful with any questions we had and gave us a ride to the ferry for our return trip. We rented bikes to explore the island but that lasted one day after we experienced the multitude of hills. The next two days we rented scooters and enjoyed seeing the island and having some time to do some hikes as well. I have to say, I love the west coast! The people are relaxed and "real", the service was great, wherever we went, and nothing was a problem.
we loved that we were close to town but still away from the hustle of the downtown core.
beautiful spacious property and very cool to be surrounded by great local art!
we were greeted immediately upon arrival and were informed of some basic details.
Yes - we would stay again and happy to refer!
Exceeded our expectations. Quiet and quaint. Had everything we needed for a relaxing stay. Walking distance into town. The owners are lovely. Very accommodating.
Enjoyed the proximity to town
Would like to see a micro wave (we missed it)
My husband and I stayed two nights at The Duthie Gallery B&B Suite. Celia and Nick were gracious hosts and made us feel most welcome. Nick gave us some tips on hiking trails. Celia gave us tips on local places to visit and dine at. Breakfast supplies and teas were thoughtfully provided. We delighted being surrounded by beautiful works of art in the suite itself, including the furniture. Only a short walk into town, made the B&B a really ideal location. Celia's love of gardening clearly shows in the garden, such a peaceful, beautiful location.
We marveled at the wood and bronze sculptures in the Gallery and Gallery Garden. At night the garden is illuminated, giving the pieces a different perspective and twist.
We thoroughly enjoyed meeting Celia and Nick and staying at their lovely Gallery B&B. An experience to be remembered.
