About James and Mary Wilhite

We built this cabin in 1996 as our primary residence and now rent it out for others to enjoy. My Wife and I love the peace and quiet of country living and the ability to take a hike in the woods for quiet time.

Loved the secluded location of the cabin!

  • 5 of 5

The cabin is secluded but close enough to a variety of restaurants to eat at each night. Only a 30 min. drive to Canton. We loved our weekend away and would definitely stay here again!

Friendly owners and a quiet place to get away.

  • 4 of 5

So nice to sit back on the porch or inside the window surrounded living room and watch the squirrels plan their next nut to conquer. Listening to the wind blow through the trees and catching a 'hello' from one of the donkeys in the pasture are a couple of other treats you get to experience. A nice, quiet and hidden cabin to give a try for yourself.

The cabin was beautiful and we had a good time there

  • 5 of 5

My family and I stayed at the cabin over the weekend. It's an amazing place to get away and to enjoy the nature. Our sons had so much fun running in the woods, and playing by the lake. The cabin was very cozy, beautifully decorated and welcoming. Thank you so much.

Just the spot for total relaxation

  • 5 of 5

This cabin was the perfect spot and was just what I was looking for to relax and unwind. It was very well maintained and had every convenience necessary. Listening to the night sounds on the balcony, was especially enjoyable. There was hiking and walking trails for exploring during the day as well. The owners couldn't have been nicer. They brought me fresh farm eggs, milk for my coffee and even had made some banana bread for me to enjoy. The towns of Edom and Ben Wheeler were nearby and had some interesting shops to go through. I would really enjoy returning to this cabin for a little longer stay next time.

Sweet cabin in the woods

  • 5 of 5

This was our first VRBO experience! I took my mom for our usual East Texas getaway for antiquing & she was so happy with choice of the cabin and the charm of it. The panoramic windows to the outside views were her favorite. The queen bed is in a loft (very comfortable bed) & although the stairs are steep, there is a good handrail and sturdy steps that my 70 something year old mom was able to easily navigate taking her time.

On a nature note: We were awakened by an aggressive cardinal who decided the window reflection was his enemy but we first thought it was someone knocking on the door, so don't be alarmed if you hear knocking, it's probably the cardinal still trying to take himself out. Also, if you're not used to a donkey braying randomly in the middle of the night, he's also in the distance doing his job apparently =)

Hospitality and Communication: James was super easy to communicate with via email and phone. Even left us with some snacks, fresh eggs, fruit and yogurt which was super appreciated because we were there the weekend of the really bad storms and didn't want to venture out. We'd love to stay again!

Owner's Response: Karen, Loved having you. Do come visit again. I'll speak to the donkey and have another conversation with the Cardinal. The both like to welcome city folks to the country in their own way. James and Mary
