3 Bedrooms,1 Bathroom, 4 Sleeps, Mountain and ocean views
A house by the ocean with sweeping views of the sea and to the mountains. It's about 30-35 minutes drive from Reykjavík, in a quiet, secluded and peaceful location only 50meters from the sea. Yet so close to the capital area.
Three bedrooms with 3 beds;
one double size bed/
one king size bed and one single bed, 4 sleeps. Linen included.
Fully equipped kitchen, a great dining area / living room, with spectacular view.
A nice bathroom with tub and a shower.
Outside the kitchen there is a cosy terrace where you can drink your morning coffee and enjoy the dawn.
Extremely wide birdlife; moorland birds, seabirds, ducks, geese, ravens, ptarmigan and occasionally you can see eagles and owls. In wintertime, in the right weather condition, you might see the northern lights dancing in the sky above the house.
In the surrounding area there is i.e. the waterfall Glymur (the highest waterfall of Iceland 196 m) Þingvellir National Park, horse rental, swimming pool and good opportunities for various hiking tours. There is quick accessibility to main roads and this is superb location for 'The golden circle' and more day trips to the south and west of Iceland.

I am an artist, mother of two sons and a grandmother. I live in the house in Hvalfjörður and I also have my studio there. I spend a lot of time in the capital area and I love the contrast between the city life and living in Hvalfjörður in all of it´s glory. What fascinates me about this type of accommodation is that people get opportunity to stay in an icelandic home and get different experience for the country and its residents. The house is not always available for renting but when you stay, you have the whole house to yourself.
Why Jóna chose Capital Region
The house is in a quiet, secluded and peaceful location only 50meters from the sea with ever changing stunning view. It's close to the capital area with quick accessibility to main roads. It's a superb location for 'The golden circle' and more day trips to the south and west of Iceland. In the right weather condition it's a perfect location to view the Northern Lights dansing above the house.

A great owner of a great house
Jona was always available and very helpful at all times.
A wonderful owner to a beautiful house with amazing views. You cannot go wrong with renting here. All the other reviews are accurate, she's the best!
Beautiful retreat within proximity of natural attractions and the city
The pictures do not do it justice if you can believe it, the house is even more stunning in person! Floor to ceiling windows let in views of the water, the fjords, and big sky. The kitchen was well equipped and everything clean and tidy. Jóna was a thoughtful host and inquired about our travel plans as she walked us around the property. Later, she remembered where we were going and messaged us that the weather had changed and become dangerous with the winds. As a result, we stayed local and enjoyed a sunny day in Þingvellir park rather than going south to Vic in the rain. We had a magical trip in Iceland were grateful to have found this place, and such a kind host!
Best house in Iceland!
My family of 4 stayed at this house for 4 nights in early April and absolutely loved everything about our stay. Our host (Jona) welcomed us when we arrived and was always available during our stay if we had questions or to give us updates on Northern Lights forecasts. The house is very comfortable and the views are absolutely breathtaking. If there wasn't so much to see in Iceland, we could have spent the entire visit on the property. Our kids loved exploring the beaches around the house. The house has everything you need - comfortable beds, hot water, fridge, dishwasher, washing machine, coffee press, etc. The house is an easy drive to Reykjavik and the Ring Road (maybe 30 minutes to Pinvellir National Park) and we spent our other days making a loop around the Snaefellsnes Peninsula (about a 2-2.5 hour drive to the 1st destination) and touring the Southern Coast (~2 hour drive to the first major waterfall) making it to Vik before heading back. One of the highlights of the trip was seeing the Northern Lights on our first night...we didn't even have to leave the master bedroom to watch them as they spread across the fjord directly in front of us. All in all, we felt we got the best rental in Iceland.
Beautiful house in an amazing location
Amazing views, beautiful house, warm and cosy. Our host couldn't have been more helpful or lovely. Great starting point to visit the tourist spots like Fontana, geyser, gullfoss falls.
Perfect in every way!
Jona was the most wonderful host. We arrived during a storm, so she made sure we were kept up to date with information regarding weather reports and road closures. She greeted us at the house with a warm smile and showed us around her beautiful home. She took her time and made sure we understood how everything worked. We realised that evening that the DVD player was broken. We told Jona and within minutes she replied to say that she would bring a new DVD player over in the morning. She was true to her word and this was the only minor issue we had throughout our stay. The house itself is in a stunning location, with views onto the Fjords, where we eventually saw the Northern Lights. The drive from the house to the main road is absolutely fine, and it's around 40 minutes to Reykjavik city centre. There is a small beach by the house, which was fun to wonder down to and take some gorgeous photographs. The bedrooms are all very spacious with a lot of cupboard space. The beds were very comfortable and we all slept very well indeed. The kitchen is extensively equipped with everything you could possibly need (oven, hob, fridge, freezer, drawers full of spices, sauces, tea/coffee and a few essentials in the fridge!). There was no microwave, but this was not an issue for us at all. Jona has a lot of books and games in the house and a small selection of DVDs (we brought our own). Playing games in the living room and waiting for the Northern Lights to come out was the best way to spend the evening. The bathroom is small, but had everything we needed. The bath certainly came in handy after a long day in the cold. I wouldn't change a thing about Jona's house or her hosting. Like I say in my title, it was perfect in every way! Thank you Jona for the holiday of a lifetime.
Best views ever!
This is an amazing house. An amazing host. Amazing views out every window. Amazing silence. Amazingly clean.
We were two couples in the house. Our host Jóna made us very welcome and comfortable. We had corresponded a lot before the trip and she prepared us in every way and suggested good things to see and do. She even texted us when there were sights of the Northern Light near the house, which is extra good service. The trip to/from the airport is exactly 70 minutes
and we recommend a 4 X 4 car if you want to drive around the island a bit.
Remember to buy dutyfree when you arrive, it is available right before customs, it is a lot cheaper than going to the local liquor stores. In fact all stores are a 25minute drive away from the house, so you cannot just pop around for 5minutes to get your fresh morning bread.
But as the house offers a big refrigerator, a freezer, two ovens and a wonderful gas stove and every kitchen utility you may need.....do a lot of shopping on day 1 and make your own food.
This may not mean a lot to most people but to me, this was very important: The beds, the sheets, the eiderdown and the pillows. They were an excellent quality, the very best and there were two pillows for each. We slept soooo well.
If there were 6 stars available, we would give it to both the host and the house.
