Capital Region House Rental Photos and Description

3 Bedrooms,1 Bathroom, 5 Sleeps, Mountain and ocean views

A house by the ocean with sweeping views of the sea and to the mountains. The house is about 30-35 minutes drive from Reykjavík, in a quiet, secluded and peaceful location only 50meters from the sea.

Three bedrooms;

two double beds: one double size/one king size

and one single bed. Linen included.

Fully equipped kitchen, a great dining area / living room, with spectacular view.

A nice bathroom with tub and shower.

There is a high-speed Wi-fi connection.

Outside the kitchen there is a cosy terrace where you can drink your morning coffee and enjoy the dawn.

Extremely wide birdlife; moorland birds, seabirds, ducks, geese, ravens, ptarmigan and occasionally you can see eagles and owls. In wintertime, in the right weather condition, you might see the northern lights dancing in the sky above the house.

In the surrounding area there is i.e. the waterfall Glymur (the highest waterfall of Iceland 196 m) Þingvellir National Park, horse rental, swimming pool and good opportunities for various hiking tours. There is quick accessibility to main roads and this is superb location for 'The golden circle' and more day trips to the south and west of Iceland.

About Jóna

I am an artist, mother of two sons and a grandmother. I live in the house in Hvalfjörður and I also have my studio there.

I spend a lot of time in the capital area and I love the contrast between the city life and living in Hvalfjörður in all of it´s glory.

What fascinates me about this type of accommodation is that people get opportunity to stay in an icelandic home and get different experience for the country and its residents. The house is not always available for renting but when you stay, you have the whole house to yourself.

Why Jóna chose Iceland

The house is in a quiet, secluded and peaceful location only 50meters from the sea with ever changing stunning view. Yet so close to the capital area with quick accessibility to main roads. It's a superb location for 'The golden circle' and more day trips to the south and west of Iceland.

Awe-Inspiring Home!

  • 5 of 5

I can't say much that hasn't already been said. The reviews are what made me choose the home in the first place, and I am beyond grateful that I did! This trip was a birthday celebration for my dad, who turned 74. He and I wanted to take a special trip together since he turned 60, but I was never able to afford anything until now. We had a wonderful time in the home, listening to Bossa Nova and cooking and eating. It was difficult leaving in the mornings because we both just wanted to stay and look out the window all day. It was postcard-worthy, and even that is an understatement. I'm a writer, and I make my living by using words to tell stories, but I'm afraid even words fail me. Photos fail this land and this house. Nothing I say could ever replace the experience of just being there. It's a deeply profound sensory experience, and so serene and visually arresting. But there is also a sense of calm, and a true feeling of home to be had. And Jona is more than the icing on the cake. What a kind, talented, generous woman. I feel so happy to have met her, and fallen into her gracious embrace. I would come back in a heartbeat!!! I'm still in mourning that I'm back to reality and not on my fjord with a cup of tea!

Perfect location, perfect home away from home!

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved staying in Jona's beautiful home on the fjord. The weather, location and people of this area of Iceland were better than we could have ever imagined. We truly long to be back in what we consider our second home.

There were five of us staying in the house, which was a great size, although one bathroom for 5 people became a bit of a challenge (our fault, not Jona's). The kitchen had every thing we needed and Jona was so generous with her help and advice.

I cannot recommend Iceland and this home more highly. We are already planning on returning and staying here again! Thank you so much, Jona!

Lovely and perfect house

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in this house for a week at the beginning of June. We came as a family with two teenagers and were all quite comfortable. It really was the best choice for us. The house is perfectly situated with incredible views. The kitchen is wonderful and very user friendly. We bought groceries nearby, which was reasonable.

At this time of year, there is near constant daylight, but the big gorgeous windows all have light blocking roller shades, which helped us rest. The beach out front is a great place to explore and see the local wildlife.

The owner is so nice and helpful. She gave us great suggestions on where to go in the area. We were not disappointed in following her up! We were very happy with the location of this property for exploring nearby Reykyavik, Snaefellsnes Peninsula, Pingvellir National Park, and we even drove as far south as Vik to see the black sand beaches. Gorgeous!

You will not be disappointed in renting this house! The owner has taken great care to create a restful, artful (she makes beautiful pottery and mosaics!), and peaceful home. Such great energy! We really enjoyed our time there and loved visiting Iceland. So magical :)

Everything, from the moment we arrived to the moment we had to leave, was amazing. The views from the kitchen/living area are mesmerizing. We had the privilege of seeing the northern lights from the house 3 nights! What a perfect home to have as a base for our exploration of the west coast. The kindness of the owner Jona made this trip so much sweeter! A place we will never forget.

Absolutely Amazing!

  • 5 of 5

This house could not have been a more perfect for us. We had just stayed at the Icehotel in Sweden and came to Iceland on a three day stopover. The views from Jona's home surpassed that which we experienced in Sweden. Out of our three nights there, we had the opportunity to see the Northern Lights on two of the nights. There is also an adorable little island you can walk out to, based on the tides. Convenient (about an hour) to the Blue Lagoon and our side-by-side tour of the southern coast. Jona's home was lovely and in excellent condition. We left wishing we had spent a week there and hope someday to be able to return.

If we could give Jona and her home more than five stars, without question we would.
