Apartment. This modern ground floor garden view apartment is located in one of the most desirable and convenient areas to stay in San Francisco-- the Marina, within walking distance of the legendary Cable Car route, Fisherman's Wharf, Golden Gate Bridge, Chinatown and our City's famous 'Crookedest Street'. It has central heat and comes with plenty of cotton linens and towels, a walk-in closet with computer desk area, flat-screen television, HD Cable, Starz Movies, high speed wireless Internet, free local and US phone calls.
I am an avid traveler and have visited more than 30 international cities and countries in the States, Europe, North, Central and South America, and Asia. This modern apartment was designed to provide indoor and outdoor areas to enjoy, along with every amenity and convenience to other frequent travelers like myself.
The Owner purchased this studio in 1972
The Marina is one of the few areas where you don't need a car to get around, it's flat, has some of the best sunny weather in town, and there are tons of things to do, eat, drink, and see. This property has been in our family for over 30 years. Stay here and you'll see why we and the rest of the locals fell in love with this waterfront area.
This apartment provides the best of all worlds with a layout encompassing indoor and outdoor private spaces, the ability to walk to shopping, restaurants, and galleries, and the convenience of the hop on and off open air tour bus to explore surrounding areas.
There is a ton of pride of ownership in this building and we want this to be reflected in the management, and if there is anything you find that we can do better, please let us know and we will do our best to improve and make it happen for you.
We booked in Feb 2016 and received a pdf Property Information Pack along with the confirmation from the owner. We heard nothing from that time until we rec'd an email while we were in the taxi to the property telling us there was storm damage to the back door. We were early for check in but were going to put our luggage in the garage as advised by the PIP. When we got there the garage was inaccessible. We called the Owner who was upstairs, he came down & told us the garage wasn't included in the rental - just as well we didn't have a hire car. He said the storm had blown out the back door leading to the garden but would be repaired asap. Once we got into the apartment down a dirty corridor, it was clear major work was going on completely surrounding the apartment ie above, in front and immediately outside the windows at the back. We naively thought at first it was the storm damage. The following morning we woke to heavy boots overhead, banging & drilling immediately outside our bedroom window. We then sat up in bed to see a face peering at us through the inadequate pull down blinds. The noise was dreadful. As we were unsure of the security of the building we had piled our suitcases against the entrance door overnight. When we looked outside it was obvious these works had been going on for some time with planked scaffolding almost at the window and the patio garden supposed to be included was totally unusable even if we had wanted to use it. We took video footage and images to substantiate our claim for a full refund. It was like staying in a building site. We have travelled extensively over the last 3 months and this was the only property we deemed utterly intolerable & unfit to stay in. We made alternative arrangements and left. We attempted to contact the owner without success; he finally responded after around 48 hours saying he had been away with little or no internet access. He then unilaterally decided (no discussion) that he would give a 20% refund as well as the security deposit. We told him that wasn't acceptable & gave full details of our reasons and repeated our request for a full refund - we have heard nothing since. Then we saw on this site, others had had similar issues as far back as June 2016. I am taking the matter up with Homeaway as well as checking out California's requirements for holiday accommodation, & if necessary get legal advice. I had to put one star, because the rating system wouldn't let me put the zero I wanted!
This studio in the Marina district was advertised as having a quiet sunny garden and garage. The reality is that it is a work in progress with a new garage slab being thrown while we were there. The so called sunny back garden was stacked with scaffolding & equipment and the back wall did not have any external cladding at all . The door locks were in a bad state of repair and we had to negotiate across a large hole at the front door before they threw the concrete - how this does not contravene every health and safety regulation, I do not know . To top it all the shower drain blocked up and I removed a tennis ball sized hair ball to get it functional again. To be fair the owner has refunded us one nights accommodation for my drain cleaning service and inconvenience. Unfortunately the whole "dream vacation rental " advertising was severely compromised and we plan to take the false advertising issue further with VRBO - wait until building is completed and overdue maintenance is done . The furnishings need updating especially the blinds which are tatty, discoloured and full of years of dust as well as the bed which has a musty smell. It could also do with some nice new fluffy towels and a good clean. Some nice air freshener would not go astray. The location however is good with easy walking access to restaurants
My husband and I were recently in the San Francisco area for several days, and enjoyed our stay at this apartment. It's small, but perfect for 2 people. I like that it has a full kitchen, and it's stocked with a good amount of dishes, pots & pans, etc. Everything you need to prepare meals. The bathroom has recently been redone, and they did a beautiful job. The mirror over the sink opens up to reveal some storage, otherwise there wouldn't be much room to put your toiletries. Some of the other reviews mentioned the bed not being comfortable, but I disagree. I thought it was very comfortable. Maybe it's been replaced recently? There's a small wall heater in the bedroom, and we used it quite a bit and were very grateful for it, as San Francisco was quite cold while we were there. The location of the apartment is a huge plus as well. It's within walking distance of restaurants, Fishermans Wharf, shops, etc. We really liked the apartment, and I'd love to be able to give it 5 stars, but I can't. Here's why: The first issue was when we arrived and the kitchen sink had a pretty bad leak. We let the owner know, and he said he'd look into it, but nothing was ever done about it. So we couldn't use it, and had to wash dishes in the tiny bathroom sink. The second issue was the fact that we had booked this apartment partly because of the fact that it had a garage. Somewhere along the line before our stay the garage became unavailable. So if you're reading the reviews where people mention the garage, beware, it may or may not be available. The third issue was the reason the garage was unavailable, which we discovered when we arrived. There is construction being done in it, and this apartment is directly on the other side of the garage wall, so we were able to hear everything that went on. Which means if you want to sleep in, good luck, because the workers arrived around 7am. Sometimes they were only loud enough to be annoying, other times it went way beyond that, such as the morning they were jackhammering concrete, and the floors were vibrating, and it was incredibly loud. So much for being able to relax. Hopefully once these issues are taken care of, it'll be a great place to stay.
The actual studio apartment was nice on the inside however we were totally misled on the condition of the entire building. We were under the impression that we would have a garage to use and a back patio with a garden. The ENTIRE building was under construction. The only functional part of this property was the small studio apartment located on the bottom floor.
When we questioned the owner about the conditions, he would not answer his phone, and he barely responded to our emails. The garage accommodations were then removed from the property listing after confronting him about it.
We were also woken up at 630am to the noise of a jack hammer. It was an absolute nightmare.
The property listing now lists that there is plentiful steet parking.......LIES! It is nearly impossible finding parking close to the apartment. We ended having to pay a parking garage $22 a day because we were not allowed to keep our car on the property due to the construction.
The back patio had large scaffolding that pretty much consumed the entire area. Not to mention, there were construction workings scaling it at 630am working on the building.
The conditions forced us to leave our trip a day early and we are very disappointed that we were not warned about these conditions prior to our trip.
All in all, San Fran was a beautiful vacation but next time we visit, we will stay in a hotel!
If you plan on staying at this location before November 2016 (which is how long the construction will take according to the sign out front), I would recommended reconsidering!
When we arrived, we found that construction was going on in the garage area that we would have had access to. Parking in the area is very difficult because most parking is only 2 hour parking. Luckily the construction crew was nice and let us park there when they weren't working, but that meant getting up early to get moving from the space so that they could start working at 7am. If we had planned to stay in the apartment during the day, the construction noise would have been an issue, but we were out and about all day long seeing the sites.
The accommodations were nice and were exactly as stated. Small, but perfect for my husband and I. The bed was cozy and the place was well maintained. We would stay again, but only with access to private parking.
Wonderful accommodations for a reunion weekend! This studio apartment was perfect size for 3 of us because a single air bed was set up for us. The cabinets are well stocked with dishes and even some food staples. The apartment is in a great location.
Jogging, Walking, Go-Car Tours, Sightseeing, Movie Theatres, Food & Dining, Big Bus hop on and off Tour Bus stop at the end of the block.
