Great time on Torch Lake

  • 5 of 5

My family and I had a wonderful time! One of the best places we have rented over the years.

The house is older, but in very good condition. It was very clean, and had everything we needed to have a great week. The kitchen was fully stocked with pots, pans, dishes....

The 3 bed rooms are very good size and have great views of the lake. The little room off the kitchen worked well with a nice sofa bed in there.

The place was large...big enough for our whole gang, both inside and out. One day we had our large group plus some extra day visitors and there was plenty of room. Lots of chairs outside on the deck and the grass.

We had campfires each night after boating and swimming all day....

The old log cabin out back worked out great for my group of teens, they loved it!

The water off the dock is shallow (3 feet?) and the bottom is stony so bring some water shoes. But the water is very clear! We were it there every day!

We highly recommend this place.

This place really suited our needs

  • 5 of 5

We rented this home the last two years based its' size. We had a family group of three couples and a bunch of kids ranging from little to big. It's a large older home but the layout works well. The largest upstairs bedroom is huge and has a sliding glass door at two ends so the breeze blows right through. This bedroom is large enough for kids on an air mattress if needed. The second upstairs bedroom is smaller but cozy with a slider overlooking the lake. The larger downstairs bedroom also has a slider. We did use the cabin; it is very rustic but the older kids liked to be able to get away there. There is also a lot of space outside - a large deck area, some nice lawn and gardens, a small deck by the lake and space on the dock to sit. We made good use of the kitchen and laundry facilities. The living room area downstairs is very large and accommodated everyone being together. There's a little sandy beach area which the little kids used all day. The lake is also sandy and there is great smallmouth bass fishing nearby.

Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5

Had a wonderful family vacation over the 4th of July. The house and cottage had everything we needed to prepare meals and wash kids clothing. Had a bonfire several nights. The beach is perfect for young kids. Water is shallow and clear. House and cottage are somewhat rustic, but well suited as a cottage rentals.

Would consider renting again next year.

Torch Lake rental

  • 1 of 5

Beach and the lake were wonderful but the home and side cabin had many problems. There were overloaded extension cords everywhere and many lights, fans, garage door opener, etc didn't work. The side cabin has material on the ceiling that sags onto the light fixtures. We were afraid it was a fire hazard. The house furniture is very old and dated and not comfortable to sit on. Much of the furnishings are not suitable for a cottage (i.e.) a cherrywood dining room table! The owner lives next door and had workmen rebuilding the steps while we were trying to enjoy the deck. The owners dog was on our property constantly even coming on the deck when we're trying to eat. Sadly, we would not recommend this property for rental.

Owner's Response: Please note that owners were notified immediately of this complaint. Most issues mentioned pertain to the old cabin, used mostly for overflow in the main house. All areas are being addressed for the 2013 season. This is the first negative complaint we have had in 2 yrs of summer rentals. We are determined to make sure families enjoy their stay at Sunrise Cottage.

Rustic Lake House

  • 5 of 5

Not sure why there is only one review for this cottage. My family stayed here last June and it was a great rental! Very spacious! It's a perfect spot on the lake with lots of deck space. The additional cottage is perfect for older kids. The spare cottage did leak a bit when it rained, but the owner had a roofer come repair the leak asap! They were wonderful! This is a great family vacation house!

Summer time in Northern Michigan!

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful venue for reuniting with friends and family! We stayed with my two brothers and their families and reunited with friends and family in the area for a fantastic action packed week. The accomodations were filled with charm and character with spaces for time together or quiet evenings alone in the hammock. We thoroughly enjoyed the sugar sand beach, swimming, diving, boating, kayaking, relaxing, campfires, coffee (or cocktails) on the upper and lower decks all while overlooking a world class lake. When the kids needed a break from the adults they had plenty of room to play/sleep in the guest cabin or in the protected beach area. When grandma was around to babysit the adults hit the Dockside for dinner and took a cruise to the sand bar on the south end for some frisbee and relaxation. As always the time went by much too fast to do all the things we wanted to the group is already looking forward to a return trip to finish things up.
