About Faye or Floyd McCalmont
We have lived in Silver City since moving our family here from Seattle, WA 20 years ago. We love this community and are excited about introducing others to this beautiful region of southwest New Mexico! There is always something fun happening, beautiful places to visit and lots of history. Grant County is truly an eclectic place with friendly, creative and interesting people. We invite you to check it out.
Faye or Floyd McCalmont purchased this House in 2010
Why Faye or Floyd McCalmont chose Silver City
Silver City is a unique and wonderful place that draws creative and interesting people to it. We wanted to own a small intimate home where visitors could feel welcome while experiencing the beauty of the surrounding area. The central location of the house makes it the perfect jumping off point for day trips or evening events.
What makes this House unique
It' a short walk to restaurants and shops as well as the park where many events are held thoughout the year. The house is small and intimate, warm and inviting - a perfect retreat for those wishing to escape into a welcome and convenient environment. Five local coffee shops, bakery, deli, museums, murals, art galleries and studios make for wonderful day trips.
Sports & Adventure Activities
We spent the month of March here. The home is clean, comfortable, tastefully decorated, and centrally located to the historic Old Town, great hiking in the Gila National Forest, and museums.
The owners were very accommodating.
We had a great time and hope to return.

Convenient, comfortable and peaceful.
Cleanliness: Excellent. If you're fussy like me, you'll appreciate how clean it is. We're on a long trip and have many other rentals we can compare to. This one is a standout in the clean department.
Location: Excellent. We walked or bicycled to Silver's cute downtown daily.
Noise level: Excellent. Close to a busy (during the day) road but thick adobe walls ensure we got a good night's sleep. Not bad in the backyard either. We strung a hammock between the trees and took many naps there!
Bed: Excellent. Firm and supportive. We used only the queen so can't comment on the twins. Only complaint: it's a memory foam mattress and it was too warm for me. These are common in vacation homes unfortunately.
Homeyness: Excellent. So many rentals are furnished with garage sale castoffs and feel like college crash pads but this house is tastefully decorated like a home. We appreciated how comfortable it is.
Landlord responsiveness: Excellent. Faye and Floyd responded quickly and thoroughly to every concern.
Amenities: Fair. Most amenities such as the vacuum and AC were good but some kitchen amenities could use some additions and updating. Suggestions: 1) Sharpen the knives. This is an oversight in many rentals so we now travel with our own knives. Perhaps landlords think dull knives are safer. Actually more accidents are caused by dull knives. 2) Replace frying pans. Most pans were warped or scratched. Again, a common rental lapse. We now travel with our own pan. 3) Purchase more silverware and large utensils. We purchased some additional inexpensive sets and some spatulas while there to make up the scarcity. 4) Bonus points for a food processor. The blender over processes pesto and gazpacho.
We and our cat enjoyed the resting deer in the backyard at night/early morning and the many birds! She loved sitting in the little hallway wall hole.
We stayed the month of March. The house was very nice and convient to so many places we wanted to see. The weather was spactular. Silver City, we will be back
wonderful small cottage
Clean, good location, comfortable neighborhood. Owners were very responsive to our needs and supplied most everything we needed. New Bar-B- Que in back yard patio was nice when we had guests. We would stay there again without hesitation.
Very nice property
I stayed at this property for a month, I am a smokejumper that worked in silver for the fire season and I can say that the owners were very accommodating and nice. The house had everything that was needed and was very clean. If I choose to head back to silver I will definitely stay here again.
This home is a little jewel, charming inside and out
This home is a little jewel, charming inside and out, and suited us, a retired couple, perfectly. It has comfortable beds and furniture and plenty of chairs for either bedroom use or as extra seating in the living room. We like to cook in and loved the expansive kitchen counter area, the 3 bar stools, and the well functioning stove. The cupboards held a variety of pots and pans that fit all our cooking needs, as well as a variety of basic food products for seasoning, salad dressings, and marinating. The top quality Weber barbecue grill on the back patio was wonderfully sized for grilling for us and our invited dinner guests, the Asahi Muur Zero bike team from Japan here for the Tour of the Gila bike race. We had one cooler evening and used the heat. The house warmed quickly and quietly. The owner was always available by phone or e-mail even though she was out of state during our stay. We liked the location, with easy access to shopping and local historical sights and hiking trails. A good supply of area information was available. This is a wonderful and welcoming home, and we hope to return again to enjoy the friendly local people and to visit more local attractions.
