The chalet was fantastic and exceeded our expectations! The views are amazing and the location is within easy reach of so many great places. Mountain hikes are available from the front door! The chalet is a good size (family of 4) and very comfortable. Overall a fantastic stay.
Our party was two adults and two primary aged children. Property size was perfect for this. Amazing views and great location. Plenty of walking opportunities. Facilities were all as advertised. If it were not for the general expense of holidaying in Switzerland we would love to stay here again.
A little bit of heaven
Property was exactly as described, and the views from the balcony are absolutely amazing. The chalet had every possible utensil under the sun - so if you're cooking, you'll want for nothing. The duvets and pillows could do with replacing as they were too soft for out taste - but might well be perfectly fine for others. The road up to the chalet takes a bit of getting used to as it's so narrow - but by day 3 we were driving up and down like we were locals. It's well situated for trips out - and it was quite surprising for us to learn that in Jean the language spoken was mostly German - but in the next village it was French. We drove out to Grindewald and took a cable car up First which was out of this world, and in the other direction went to the Gruyere spa - amazing also - and had a couple of runs out to Montreux. The roads are really easy to drive - but do watch out for the speed cameras - lol. We'll be back for sure!. :)
A little slice of heaven
The Chalet was exactly as described, in fact it was actually a little bit bigger than I had envisioned it. It was easy to find with GPS, and well located to go hiking or sightseeing. We had a wonderful time, I would highly recommend it!
The PERFECT place to stay in Switzerland! It’s about half way between Lac Léman and Interlaken/Schilthorn, so that you can visit both with ease. It’s also very close to Gruyeres and Maison Cailler. And then there is the village of Jaun. Simply gorgeous! MUCH, MUCH better than staying in Charmey, Broc, or Gruyeres. In Jaun, you’re actually in the midst of the Alps. It’s a bit of a harrowing drive up to the chalet, but that’s part of the Alpine experience. You get used to it pretty quickly. And the view from the balcony - wow! And the sound of the waterfall! And the cowbells ringing throughout the day! Just an amazing experience.
The chalet itself has a fantastic cabin-feel to it. Very cozy, but with plenty of space. We absolutely loved it! And we stayed there during the 2019 heat wave! That’s the beauty of this place. It’s built into the side of the mountain. So, everyday when we returned from sightseeing, this place was nice and cool inside - even with no A/C. Again, it’s just perfect in every way!
- Small grocery in Jaun, larger one toward Charmey.
- Amazing bakery in Jaun.
- The Gastlosen hike up to Soldatenhaus is fantastic! (Not for the unfit. Take lots of water.)
- Gruyeres Castle is fantastic, but Chillon Castle in Montreux is even better!
- The beach in Lutry is nice and relaxing and the Buvette de la Plage has great food and beverages!
- The vineyards around Lac Léman are gorgeous!
Lovely apartment, great facilities and beautiful setting.
I had a great stay at the chalet with my husband and 2 boys. Set on the slopes of Jaun, the view from the balcony was stunning and made breakfast or dinner special. Good facilities, everything we needed, photos were exactly as it was in real life with a really lovely spacious living area. Great base for accessing the hiking and walks in the surrounding mountains straight from the door.
The Chalet is situated directly on the excellent hiking trails and about 10-15 minutes walking distance from the Jaun Village centre with all necessary shopping for your daily needs, post, Bank, bus station, access to the Vita Parcours (fitness trail) and to the ski lifts, the chair lift and the cross-country trails in the winter.
The next bigger village is Charmey in 10 km distance, the Jaun Pass (about 1550m above sea level. d. M.) 6 km away, with transition to the Bernese Oberland and his further winter sports domains to Gstaad (about 40 minutes drive away).
By car you get easy to the recommended summer destinations on Lake Geneva (Vevey, Montreux, Lausanne) or to the East of Lake Thun with Spiez or Interlaken and the high mountain railway to the Jungfraujoch, both within about an hour.
Summer: Well maintained fitness trail (Vita Parcours), Wellnessbath close (Charmey, 8 km), free swimming in the Lake of Gruyère (15 km) or in the Lake Schwarzsee, also mountain biking and climbing tours possible.
Winter: In the winter, you can go downhill as well as cross-country skiing in Jaun. The well-kept cross-country piste is illuminated until 22:00(10:00p.m.). Three ski lifts and a chairlift, each with base station at the village of Jaun, ski school for beginners and children. By means of the chair lift also leads the 6 km-long toboggan with a difference in altitude of 500 m.
Only 6 km to go to the Jaunpass with other ski slopes, easy to reach by car, and more possibilities within 40 min drive by car to ski resorts in the Bernese Oberland (Rinderberg-Zweisimmen, Gstaad, Saanenmöser, Lenk-Adelboden, among others)
Snow-shoe hikes of Jaun out are possible with the local holiday service.
