Hi. My name is Shannon. My husband Mark and I bought this lovely house in South Haven in the fall of 2010. We've poured love into this home. We've renovated it with real barn wood floors, a warm gas fireplace, an all new bathroom, and a funky and comfy decor that isn't like every other cottage on the block with a Gone Fishin' sign. We will enjoy it part of the time, and we want you to enjoy it the rest of the time.
Shannon Miller purchased this house in 2010
I grew up spending every summer in South Haven and loved every minute of it. Body surfing in the waves, playing Capture the Flag, making sand castles during the Blueberry Festival, riding my banana seat bike to get penny candy at the corner store that has been there as long as I can remember. I always thought when I had a family, I would buy a place in South Haven to let my kid love those same experiences. Well, I now have that kid. So, I had to make good on that promise to myself.
Take a short walk to the beach with coffee in hand first thing in the morning. Take a ten minute walk to one of two parks with your kids or the dogs in the afternoon. Play badminton or ladder ball in the big yard. Take a secret shortcut to the bridge (you'll figure it out when you get there) and be at one of the great downtown restaurants ten minutes later. Read a book by the fire. Play poker at the big oak table that can seat ten or more. Uncork a bottle of red wine and relax on the deck. Watch Jaws with your friends while eating endless bags of microwave popcorn.
The house was great--clean, spacious, and cozy. The fireplace was an excellent addition to our winter trip. The house had everything we needed and all the info we needed was provided. The only thing that detracted from an otherwise amazing stay was that the hot water seemed to run out pretty quickly. However, we were able to adjust shower schedules after the first day so we didn't run into the issue again. The house was a quick walk into town and very close to the beach!
I definitely would recommend this home for anyone looking to stay in South Haven.
Perfect spot for a getaway. This is the second time we have stayed here for a girls weekend. Perfect space, comfy beds and plenty of space for six women to inhabit! The home is spotless, stocked generously with paper products and decorated in true beach fashion. I highly recommend this rental and we will be returning again!
Soft Landing was a great location for our family gathering. Comfortable amenities
And plenty of room topped only by the convenient location of the property.
We loved walking to the beach. We will recommend Soft Landing to our friends.
South Haven has a lot to offer for a fun getaway.
The cottage was beautiful and spacious. Everything was provided and there was plenty of room for my family and friends. Only two blocks from the beach and close to downtown South Haven. Shannon, your cottage on Oak Street was a perfect place to celebrate my 60th birthday! We all had a wonderful time!
My family and I stayed here this past August for a short get away from the other side of Lake Michigan. The beach is beautiful -sand is soft and water is so clear. The place was clean when we arrived. We weren't able to check in early because the people staying there before us checked out late. But, we just went grocery shopping and by the time we got back the place was free. Booking the property was easy - communication was clear. The place was clean and well stocked. It has everything you need and then some. They really paid attention to details to supplying people with so many things like beach chairs, towels, dish soap etc. We loved the walk to the beach and how close it is as well as the proximity to downtown, restaurants and shops. Shannon was very responsive when we communicated and let us check out a bit late which was nice. The only suggestion for improvement would be that the owners call and check in on their tenants. Our bath tub had began to clog and we could have used a plumber to come in and fix the drain issue. We all had to shower in the guest bathroom off the kitchen. Not a big deal since there were only three of us. We loved that we could bring our dog! I would definitely recommend staying here as it is a lovely home that is well cared for.
This was the first time we stayed in South Haven at the Soft Landing, and it was perfect in every sense. The rooms were neat and clean, the location was perfect for our family to walk to the beach, and the yard was big enough to play sports and run around. We were so impressed we plan on staying here next year.
Did you know? South Haven boasts seven public beaches. But Oak Street Beach at the end of our street is one of the best kept secrets and only two blocks away! Roast marshmallows around the outdoor fire pit; Rainy day? Visit the Air Zoo one hour away in Portage, or take a short ride to one of the two South Haven wineries; Drink cider and devour fresh doughnuts at Mcintosh Apple Orchards; Pick blueberries, raspberries (yes, that's how it's spelled; I couldn't believe it either), cherries...you name it...at one of the local farms; bike the Kal-Haven trail that starts less than a mile from where you are staying; walk to the marina where you'll find charter fishing, sunset cruises, canoe rentals, and more; golf at one of the three courses in town; visit the GingerMan Raceway; check out the Fall color tour; Winter Get-Away? Try snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and ice skating at the local outdoor rink. I could go on, but just how much do you think you can fit into a week anyway?
