About Larry Van Liew

Location, location, location — My wife and I fell in love with this beautiful property the moment we first saw it. We named it Boulder Creek Cottage because of its unique features. Living close by allows us to attend to the needs of our guests should it become necessary. Since we are local, we deal with our guests directly — from key exchanges, to cleaning, to repairs, and anything in between. Our property is fully furnished and has all the amenities of home! We take pride in our property and look forward to accommodating your stay. Larry & Kendra Van Liew (owners)

Why Larry Van Liew chose Inland Empire

Our cottage is located up against the national forest and offers a secluded and quiet retreat for our guests. Being the last property on the street just adds to the mountain ambiance and privacy. It is not uncommon to see deer on our property.

What makes this cottage unique

Boulder Creek Cottage is a quiet, clean, cozy, secluded retreat situated up against the San Bernardino National Forrest. This is a perfect getaway for a few days to allow one to breath in the mountain air, enjoy the wildlife, hiking, rock climbing, biking, horseback riding, antiquing, shopping, or to just rest, renew, restore and reconnect. Our cottage provides a wonderful mountain ambiance, yet with all the modern conveniences. Whether used as a romantic honeymoon venue, a fun-filled family retreat, or just a cozy getaway, we think you will love our cottage.

What a fabulous place you have here! So cozy and peaceful. We throughly enjoyed every minute here and did not want to leave! It is so relaxing and beautiful. Your home exceeded all of our expectations by miles. Loved the porch, watching the birds and tree squirrels. We will definitely come back!

Our daughter especially enjoyed the swing which supplied wonderful views of wildlife in the evenings.

Our Boulder Creek Cottage weekend

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time and it was perfect for my daughter's surprise birthday weekend. We had everything we needed to make it so comfortable. It was very quiet, cozy and again so comfortable. The squirrels were the biggest that I have ever seen and they were all over the decking. So cute. Quite a lot birds going at the feeder the whole time. We went into town several times for lunch, and dinner. The Bake Shop has the best sandwiches by far. I can't thank you enough for a wonderful weekend and looking forward to spending time this summer when the cottage is available. I have already recommended this to several friends and family.

Very Nice and quite charming

  • 5 of 5

5 of us ladies shared this place for a 50th birthday celebration this weekend. Although the snow hindered us from being able to park at the property, we still had a fabulous stay once we were in the cabin. The owner, Larry was awesome too about communicating with me prior to and during our stay. Great place to stay in Idyllwild!

Much Needed Get-A-Way

  • 5 of 5

This short get-a-way was long overdue for our family. Originally scheduled for the end of July to celebrate my and my husband's birthdays, we unfortunately had to cancel our plans due to our pet having to have emergency surgery the day before we were supposed to check in. I didn't purchase trip insurance and knew our chances for postponing our trip (without losing our $$) were slim. After speaking with the owner, Larry, a couple of times over that week to let him know of our circumstances, he very graciously decided that we could postpone our trip to another date in the future. With such short notice, I'm not sure if he was able to re-book the weekend or not, but in the midst of a very traumatic week for us, he was a shining light. Though, please learn a lesson from me....purchase trip insurance! Not only will it help you out in an emergency, but also the homeowners.

So, we were finally able to find a weekend to head into the mountains...and what a perfect weekend it was! The cabin was immaculate and so cozy. We immediately felt at home when we arrived. It was at the end of a cul-de-sac and so quiet. The deck......oh, the deck. My husband and I sat out there for two hours and read books, watched the "monster" squirrels running up and down the pine trees, and the birds enjoying the property just as much as we were. My husband, and both my tween daughter and her friend, got to see deer. The cabin's kitchen was completely stocked with everything we needed to cook most of our meals (we live only an hour away and were able to bring our food with us), the beds were super comfortable and there were tons of DVDs to keep the girls happy. I even jammed to the most amazing Louis Armstrong CD while cooking dinner one night. On Saturday we took a small drive to Humber Park and hiked (most of) the scenic was amazing. The girls found a rock behind the cabin that they could "slide down", so they spent quite a bit of time doing that.

I could go on and on, but I'll end with this....Larry and Kendra are good people. They take pride in their home and it shines through in the extra touches that they've provided. We're already planning our next trip up to Boulder Creek Cottage in a few months to hopefully play in the snow and enjoy that beautiful fireplace and electric blankets on the bed :-)

Owner's Response: Thank you Krista for taking the time to let us know how much you enjoyed your stay. We look forward to having you back again this winter. We have a number of deer in the area and they are frequent visitors to Boulder Creek Cottage. They love carrots and many of our guests cut them up and place them under the birdfeeder where they can be seen feeding on them. As cozy and comfortable as the inside of our cottage is, everyone that stays here really loves hanging out on the large deck and enjoying the wildlife, playing games or having a barbecue and dinner on the picnic table.

Hiking, rock climbing, biking, horseback riding, antiquing, shopping, pottery painting, great restaurants, Fourth of July Parade, a Jazz Fest in August, summer music concerts at the Park, theatre, art galleries, and fun in the snow are just some of the '101' things to do in Idyllwild.

The Village Shopping and dining are favorite pastimes of our guests. A pleasant stroll through the village takes you past many unique storefronts. Shops offer one of a kind gifts, antiques and all varieties of Idyllwild mementos.
