This Charming Hillside Cottage is nestled on a hillside, up a rustic 1/4 mile drive from a quiet neighborhood, that winds through an oak grove leading to our little paradise. We are surrounded by oaks and kentia palms, with spectacular mountain and city views. This guest cottage is private, and detached from our family home. We are 5 minutes from the beach and 5 minutes from downtown. Though we are on the 'upper' west side not far from the mesa, the property is very different from any residence around it, as it is in its own little 5 acre pocket in between 2 neighborhoods - the west side and Bel Air Knolls, but doesn't look like either one.
The cozy bedroom has french windows that look out into a garden area, a king bed, Ethan Allen desk, and a soft comfy chair.
The spacious sitting room converts to sleep 4, with a full sized loft bed, and a full, very comfy futon/sofa. The loft bed has a beautiful mountain view.
The redwood deck overlooks the hillside, and has a lovely eating area, a bbq, and a private hot tub.
Though we are in a very private setting, we are conveniently located in the city - a secret little pocket that overlooks Santa Barbara - and only a short drive to the beach and to downtown shopping.

We bought our home 26 years ago, with this guest cottage, but never rented it out until recently. A few years ago I decided to beautify it, bought new furniture, new carpet, painted it, and it's gorgeous! I'm looking forward to meeting you, and have you as our 'guests' for as long as you'd like to stay. We're animal lovers, and have 2 rescue dogs, 3 rescue cats, and several chickens in the backyard. Don't worry, no roosters! Your well behaved pets are welcome, too. When I'm not fixing up the guest house, I make unique art tallits. You may have to look that one up.
Sharon Landecker purchased this cottage in 1990
This property is totally unique. Though we're in the middle of Santa Barbara, close to town, it feels like we're in the country. You will feel this also - the cottage is totally private and serene, though it's a 5 minute drive to everywhere.
The quarter mile driveway down to the street is a wonderful morning or evening walk. But it is wooded, so at night we do have occasional visitors - mostly raccoons and skunks - so drive slowly. State Street, the main drag with tons of restaurants, shopping and the Museum of Art, is only a 5 minute drive from us. The Pier and the Harbor, with the Ty Warner Sea Center is 5 farther, and the wonderful S.B. Zoo, is only 5 minutes farther than that. Tennis courts are only 5 minutes away, in Ehlings Park, and one of the most beautiful walks in S.B., with an off-leash policy for your dog, is the Douglas Family Preserve, and only 5 minutes away, overlooking Hendry's beach.
My boyfriend and I needed an escape from La La land and decided to head to Santa Barbara for a much needed escape. We found Sharon and her enchanting cottage on this site. Honestly, though the pictures are great it doesn't do the house justice Sharon really has put together a picturesque cottage. It has a beautiful porch with a hot tub that overlooks a breathtaking view of Santa Barbara and the mountains. On a more logistical note, the house is equip with everything needed including, two high tech TVs that stream Netflix and Pandora, a huge grill and though this is not a huge deal, it was to me, a coffee pot with ground coffee/milk in the fridge. The house is tastefully decorated and everything is NEW! So it really feels like your own little slice of heaven. Our favorite thing to do was to camp out in the 2nd bed/loft area and read in the afternoon. The view is equally as amazing from there as on the porch. I would definitely recommend checking this beautiful cottage out. It seriously added to our romantic getaway and made it an unforgettable experience.
Loved this little, informal, comfortable, pet-friendly cottage. Location great for us. Enjoyed the spa on the deck as well as the BBQ. Recommend arriving before dark if you've never stayed here.
We loved staying at this cottage on the hillside. We have been coming to Santa Barbara for many years, a few times a year to visit an aging relative plus enjoy SB and this is one of the best places we've stayed for the price. It is small, but was fine for our family (2 adults plus a teenager.) My son loved the loft bed with view, and if our older son had come he could have slept on the futon, sharing the living room with his brother. we didn't really use the kitchen but it would be OK as long as the weather is nice enough to eat at the table on the deck - which it almost always is in SB. Very peaceful lovely spot.
Three friends and I fit very comfortably in Sharon's well-kept, secluded cottage. The cute, quaint home is a short drive to the beach, shopping, and groceries, and then we were able to come back and spend the late afternoon in the hot tub while barbecuing before heading out for a night on the town. Everything that we needed/forgot was provided - towels, pots/pans, grilling tools, etc. We also bumped into Sharon, who lives right next door, and she was very accommodating and asked if we needed anything further. We didn't! Would definitely recommend. Also, there was a handy binder for miscellaneous information/questions about the place. Thanks, Sharon!
Sharon was hospitable, warm and showed a genuine concern for our comfort! We appreciated her kindness and willingness to make certain our stay was more than we expected! The beds were very comfortable and fit our needs to a "T"! Thank you Sharon for making out stay all that we expected and then some!
Russ and Deann (and out little critters)
We had a wonderful stay in Sharon's cottage. The property was perfectly clean and had everything we needed. Our kids loved it, especially the bed with the view! We highly recommend that place if you are planning to visit Santa Barbara.
The price for this cottage was great! The rooms were spacious for my family and everything was provided neatly. The only drawback was the noise at night. Since the guest cottage is close to the main house, we could hear cars driving up and down the driveway and the music from the cars. People were talking outside until midnight hanging out and talking, so we had a very hard sleeping.
Santa Barbara has lots of bike trails, and bike paths in the city. I have a couple of bikes here for borrowing. There are also cute little surreys near the beach for family outings.
