Quietude Cottage offers privacy without being isolated. (See Quietude Cottage's FaceBook page for more photos of house and area.) You will love returning to the cottage after your day of exploring the Shenandoah Valley. Located in Mount Sidney, VA, Quietude is a 1920s seven room cottage style house, with original wood floors throughout. Partially open walls in the living areas create an inviting space. The cottage is located on 1 1/2 acres and there are 4 soothing water features. Take time to swing on the front porch or beside one of the goldfish ponds. (Keep watchful eye over young children around ponds. The ponds are up to two feet deep and the pond liners are extremely slippery.) Relax while watching the fish play or the birds at the feeders, you may even see a bullfrog. Or walk up the hill to the swing in the back yard and enjoy views of the neighboring fields & woods. Enjoy a meal or nap on the comfy sofa or in the hammock on the spacious patio and listen to the music of the waterfall. Flavor up your meal with a few leaves from the herb garden by the patio. (All bed, bath and kitchen linens provided.)

I am an artist with many interests. I like to travel and paint. But I also enjoy home projects and gardening. I am retired and can choose what I want to do each day.
I have grandchildren in Virginia and California, so I like to spend time on each coast. Hiking and kayaking are favorite activities. When you stay in my Quietude Cottage, you will see evidence of my varied endeavors and interests.
Elizabeth Tuttle purchased this house in 2006
North Carolina natives, our family visited the Shenandoah Valley often when my children were young. My daughter lives about a mile from this house, so it is a natural, easy place for me to stay when I'm in Virginia. I love the beauty of the Valley and there are so many ways to enjoy your time here. Lots of wineries have developed over the past few years and they are fun to visit. Easy access to the Blue Ridge mountains, National Forests, Harrisonburg, Staunton and Charlottesville is a bonus.
Tranquility. I find it beside water. I like having the water features near the living room window so in warm weather, with the windows open, I hear the water falling into the pond and in winter I enjoy viewing the water or ice. Visiting birds like the water too! Bird feeders help assure lots of birds in spring & summer and some year round.
The area is quiet and that contributes to the peaceful atmosphere. Again, the house and outside areas offer privacy without isolation. I think the house and yard are beautiful and have enjoyed projects that sustain and improve on that beauty. Have lots more projects on my list!
Downtown Staunton is a favorite place to visit. I particularly like the art galleries and restaurants.
Quietude cottage hosts the VERY BEST guests. Everyone has been so pleasant and left the house is excellent shape. I love finding new ideas that I think guests will like. I appreciate all the great reviews and learned a lot from the one negative one. Lots of other guests have left positive comments in my guest book. Putting the cottage on VRBO/HomeAway was a good move for me!
We had an amazing time at Quietude cottage! We stayed for a few nights during the Memorial Day holiday to do some hiking and explore some of the Shenandoah Valley. The cottage had everything we needed - space for our dog to romp, comfortable outdoor spaces, and a well-appointed kitchen that we used to make a nice little cookout. Some of the many bonuses included a great selection of DVDs (especially if you love romantic comedies like I do!), maps/brochures of the area and a popcorn machine. Our dog was mesmerized by the frogs, fish, and birds that are on the property! Elizabeth was a great host as well. She was attentive but also let us do our thing while we were out there. My boyfriend and I (along with our dog) will definitely be returning!!
We stayed four nights over the Thanksgiving weekend in this comfortable cottage and had a wonderful time. We enjoyed the wonderful outdoor area at the rear of the house, especially the fire pit and the grill. We found the house clean and well equipped. The owner went out of her way to make things nice for us and anticipated our wants and needs. There are almost unlimited things to do and see in the area. We enjoyed biking in Staunton and Dayton as well as hiking at Shennadoah National Park.
We read the reviews and booked this vacation house with high expectations. We were disappointed upon arrival because the exterior of the house is not very appealing and there were some spider webs. The garage was not clean either. Backyard is very nice with 3 ponds and it's relaxing to sit there and watch birds and butterflies. Our daughter likes the piano and private stairs in her bedroom. Walls are decorated with nice paintings and the playroom is a good space to spend family time in. Only 1 bathroom upstairs makes it not so convenient when you stay there with more than 2 people. On average, I spend about 3 months away from home yearly for the past 10 years and this one is overpriced, compared to the others I have stayed in so far.
We stayed in Virginia for 2 nights after an exhausting vacation to PA and Washington DC. The house and surroundings are beautiful and relaxing. We loved the water features, especially the one at the back of the patio. Listening to and watching the hummingbirds was lovely. There are plenty of opportunities to relax outdoors with hammocks, chairs, an outdoor sofa, an outdoor wood-burning stove, an artist's studio, and games. The house is extremely kid friendly, which I think is a great feature, even though our children are all teenagers. There does tend to be quite a bit of traffic on the road, which can be noisy at night and early mornings. That would be the only somewhat negative thing about this property, and it certainly is not a reason to not choose this place! Elizabeth was also very friendly and accommodating, always replied quickly by email, and it is obvious she wants you to enjoy your stay. The wood features in the house are beautiful. The price is right! I absolutely recommend this for your stay.
The photographs of the property are nice, but doesn't compare to the real thing! Beautiful property. We so enjoyed sitting out back and watching the hummingbirds. This was an ideal location for the music festival we attended, as well as antique shopping in multiple cities. Extremely quiet, and we slept like babies. The kitchen is stocked with any appliance or utensil you could possibly need. We've already decided to return next year. We've rented with VRBO and Homeaway in multiple cities, but this has been the best ever! Highly recommend!
We really enjoyed out stay here for a girls' getaway. The location is perfectly centered in the Shenandoah Valley region, so we were able to make day trips all over the area. The front porch swing was my favorite spot. Sleeping wise - one bed was pillowtop like and very comfy - the other was very firm. The owner was very quick to respond to any questions and the price was great.
