Come, stay on Bois Blanc Island, known by the locals as Bob Lo Island, 24,000 acres of relaxing “nature’s Paradise.” and 30 miles of shoreline.
Your vacation to Eagle Ridge starts when you get on the ferry operated by Plaunt Transportation (888 752 8687 ) departing from Cheboygan Michigan heading on the 45 min trip to the Island. During the Ferry ride, the true remote nature of the Island begins to set in. Once you arrive on the Island, you will be met by our Island manager and headed just a short drive away to Eagle Ridge, however we suggest that you stop at Hawks landing (General Store) before you head for Eagle Ridge to start you Island Adventure. The cabin sleeps 10, with a master suite downstairs and 4 sets of bunk beds in the upstairs loft. There is a full bath on each floor, and a beautifully ceramic tiled fully furnished kitchen ( WITH 2 full size REFRIGERATORS ) for all the food you will bring for your relaxing week on the Island. Don't have to bring extra ice chests for you food. The main floor offers a family room with vaulted ceilings, TV, and leather seating. Additionally on the main floor, is a family dining area, screened/glassed in porch (no bugs) with a popcorn cart, office away from home with a printer for your lap top.
For outdoor activities, we provide as they would say at 'LL Bean' a wickedly nice open porch and deck area with ample seating including two round tables with umbrellas, without a doubt the absolutely most fantastic and unforgettable star gazing you will ever experience ( NO LIGHT POLLUTION ), a charcoal grill,( Bring charcoal and lighter ) bonfire pit, fire wood, and close beach access.
Since you don't want to get you car all scratched up, we provide an old Jeep and 2 Mountain Bikes to help you explore the many different areas on the Island. This is the perfect way to see some of the more remote parts of the island that would be difficult to get to otherwise. A Canoe with motor and two Kayaks are there for your use, on the 'Big Lake' or one of the really neat inland lakes.
While the Island is quite remote by mainland' standards, all of your needs can be met without leaving the Island. There is a restaurant/general store that also sells gasoline and has Fantastic Pizza. There is a bar that serves food, as well. For those of you that just can't be without INTERNET service, the general store/restaurant offers free Wi-Fi service. ( If you have a cell phone with Internet,it will work at Eagle Ridge on the porch )
Most visitors spend the day exploring the wilderness of the island; swimming, hiking, boating, fishing, and enjoying what the island has to offer. The perfect way to wind down is to relax in the cabin, perhaps admiring the true log cabin structure of Eagle Ridge, like the locally sourced handrail on the staircase, and sharing your day's experiences with others in the cabin. As your vacation ends, and you are on the Ferry back to the mainland, you will find that you will be eager to return to 'The Island' and Eagle Ridge.

Steve, AKA ' Uncle Steve ' has been coming to Bois Blanc Island for the past 15 plus years. So when he decided to retire from Ferris State University in 2003, he decided to take on a log home Dealership. Well when you sell log homes you need a demo home right ? Hold on, loving wife of 45 plus years has to buy into this concept of being away from home all summer on a beautiful island.. Not a hard sell. Eagle Ridge was built in 2006 and has been enjoyed ever since. Kyu Hui, pronounced Q-He, (brains of the outfit) was in charge of all the furnishings and ceramic tile work that went into Eagle Ridge... She is a stickler for detail and picky picky. We love sharing Eagle Ridge with families that enjoy the pristine nature of Bois Blanc Island AKA Bob-Lo
Steve purchased this cabin in 1996
Bob Lo is Heaven on Earth... Need we say more..
Twenty four thousand acres of undisturbed State land to explore. Four large inland lakes to enjoy, Hundreds of miles of intertwining trails and two tracks to be challenged. Thirty +- miles of beach to walk and enjoy.
The most fantastic star gazing you will ever enjoy.. NO LIGHT POLLUTION .. Peace and quiet at your beckon call. We could go on and on, but we think you get the idea.
This place is a little piece of heaven on an island that is so peaceful. My husband and I spent a week at this cabin and couldn't have picked a better place from Anne the caretaker of the property to Steve the owner who takes time out of his own life to visit his vacationers, make this everything we could have dreamed about. The wildlife that we experienced was amazing, deer, coyote, turkeys, beavers, fish, rabbits, bats, the list goes on. We will definitely will be back next year. Thanks so much for sharing this with others. Sincerely, Diane
We have just returned from Bob Lo Island after having spent the last week at Eagle Ridge lodge. It was an exciting week filled with explorations of the island in "General Woody" to inland lakes and forest trails. The local residents are beyond friendly and helpful and more welcoming than in any other vacation spot we have visited. We enjoyed the Museum and the information provided by the well-informed volunteer. We devoured the Pizza at Hawks Landing and chowed down on the burgers at the Tavern. After a wonderful day of crawling all over the island, we came back to a cozy, immaculate lodge with every amenity we could hope for. We ended our visit celebrating the Sabbath with the local folks at the Coast Guard Chapel. It was an uplifting experience. If you want to truly "get off the gird" Eagle Ridge is the place to go. (and if you have to have your Internet fix - it can be had at Hawkes Landing - but you may forget about that once you arrive !!) The manager gives you all the info you need upon your arrival and your host even drops in mid-week to see to your satisfaction. Great lodging, wonderful location, welcoming people - Utopia !!!
This is the place to go if you really want to relax on your next vacation! No Phones, No Crowds, No internet, NO PROBLEMS! The owners have very accurately described the Eagle Ridge Home! It has all the amenities you need... if they don't have it... You don't need it! But seriously it is very well equipped, with Satellite TV, Jeep, Boats, Washer and Dryer, BBQ Grill, fully stocked kitchen & bedrooms... you are all set. The island is full of adventure. Our family enjoyed checking out the inland lakes, swimming in the "big lake", going on hikes, quite times reading and relaxing, it was just plan great to get closer to the ones you love and to nature. The place was spotless and the owners were very nice and great to work with. If you are looking for a "Mackinac Island" type of vacation... this is not the place for you. You will not find crowds of people, tons of tourist stores, Horses, and all the trappings of a "canned vacation"... but the one general store/restaurant on the island has great ice cream, wifi, and yes even fudge! Oh... and like others have written... be prepared to waive, the locals are very friendly and helpful! I highly recommend Eagle Ridge if you are a family who doesn't want "More of the Same". You need to be able entertain yourselves. Be open to try new things. Enjoy quite times. Not feel you have to "BE" entertained. You find fun in unexpected places. Could be a challenge if you have kids who need constant stimulation or are addicted to video games and the internet! Actually would be a great place to break those habits!
I stayed at Eagle Ridge during the Fall of 2011 and had THE BEST TIME!!! In looking for someplace to stay that was 'off the beaten path', near the water, spacious, quiet, 'homey', away from WI FI opportunities, and in a place to explore that I had never been before... Eagle Ridge was the perfect vacation getaway.
All of the accommodations, extras, and amenities provided myself and a friend with all that we needed to enjoy a week away from it all. Bois Blanc Island was beautiful to explore in the fall, and although we didn't fire up the available Jeep (General Woody), the 2-track drive along the North Shore was one I won't forget anytime soon... and neither will the dog that joined us in the back seat! Next time we want to check out the lighthouse...
Steve was very helpful in answering our questions (before and while there) and assuring us that we would have everything we needed - which we did indeed.
The wind in the trees, the waves lapping on the nearby shore, the woodland creatures that visited us daily, the QUIET, the unavailability of internet, the separate living spaces (upstairs, downstairs, huge outside deck with 2 umbrella tables and lots of chairs)... it all contributed to a most enjoyable week-long vacation and I will definitely be making plans to go back.
One of the highlights was finding Lake Mary and perching ourselves on the dock there to listen to nature and behold the untouched landscape around us. It was beautiful...
Thanks to Steve and his wife for creating a paradise getaway on beautiful Bois Blanc (Boblo) Island!!! If you have a chance, give him a call and get your reservation in now - the more people visit the Island, the more they will want to go back!
I believe that the listing was accurate and the property was clean and well maintained. The owner and the property manager are extremely friendly and helpful. I do wish that the water was withen walking distance as opposed to driving. I have 2 little ones that would rather be out walking than riding in the car 10 minutes. But the property and the island are very lovely and friendly. Be ready to wave when you visit!
Me and my family will never forget this trip!! The ferry ride over started our adventure. First thing we noticed is how friendly everyone is, everyone waves as you drive along the coast line. The cabin is OUT OF THIS WORLD beautiful, cozy, clean and relaxing!! The jeep aka General Woody, is a fun rustic ride around the island, we took it up to the light house, and off to explore the inland lakes. Lake Mary is just beautiful, we caught some rock bass fish, which my sons were just so excited about. Deer are everywhere, and so meek and beautiful. Hawks Landing has one amazing breakfast and a wonderful staff. Boating was another fun adventure, we took the rubber boats out, and what an amazing relaxing view, just lay back float and look up, and you will be amazed!! I wish I could explain the stars at night, just mind blowing, you get lost looking into space, shooting stars zipped by us, and we seen the stars like never before. I highly recommend everyone expereince this, its a great family vacation, and my 3 sons will never ever forget our stay, can't wait to come back!! Eagle Ridge and Bois Blanc Island have a special place in our hearts! Thank you for the memories.
