Well-equipped home in area away from the crowds
My family (5 adults) all enjoyed our stay at this house. It was away from the hustle and bustle of Bar Harbor (about 20 minute drive) and close to quaint downtown Southwest Harbor (5 minute drive). Another nice aspect of the location is the beautiful view of the gorgeous night sky without ambient light from businesses or other accommodations.
The house was well-equipped with everything we needed from cookware to grill utensils to s'mores forks. We brought our own citronella candles and bug spray but were fortunate to rarely need them. The quality of the linens provided was very good and I didn't even unpack the kitchen linens I brought. Also plenty of cookware and dishes and serveware so that we didn't have to constantly wash dishes.
I was glad we knew ahead of time that a business operates from a garage on the premises; otherwise, the daily arrivals and departures of dump trucks would have been a surprise.
We all really loved the house and the location!
So, this is our 2nd year renting this house from Jesse and we love it! ❤️ There is plenty of space inside for our family of four plus Ollie, our 2 year old black lab and we like the fact that it’s a quick drive to town yet far enough away that you feel like you’re in the middle of nowhere. The deer are in the yard every day and it’s a great morning walk to the southern edge of Long Pond. It’s the perfect home base for your stay on MDI no matter what you like to do. We chose to hike, go to Sand Beach a couple days, rent paddle boards and kayaks on the northern side of Long Pond, go to Improvacadia (a family friendly comedy show in Bar Harbor....go, you will never laugh so hard!) and eat lots of good Maine food! Jesse is a great to deal with! Already thinking about getting on his calendar for next summer 😊
Quiet and peaceful
The property is quiet and peaceful. The rooms were spacious and contained many places for storage. Even though it took 20 minutes to get to the main part of Acadia, we didn't mind because the area was quiet and out of the traffic area. At night there was no noise of cars or anything else. The house was well equipped with supplies like dish soap and laundry soap, vacation booklets of the area, lots of towels. Although the house was much newer and more up to date most houses in the area it needed some TLC, such as fixing loose tiles on the floor, adding a spring to the screen door so it doesn't bang and hanging a curtain in the upstairs bedroom.
Fabulous home on the quiet side
This home was perfect for our family vacation. The downstairs master bedroom has a nice big bathroom with a shower and tub and the two bedrooms upstairs share another nice bathroom. It was perfect for the kids to have their own space upstairs. The porch was great to have coffee on in the morning and enjoy the quiet side of he island. It was about a 20 minute drive to Bar Harbor but it was nice to get away from the crowds and relax. We enjoyed a few of the small restaurants nearby and we were never disappointed. The owner was super easy to communicate with and was even kind enough to return an item that was left behind accidentally. The kitchen was well equipped and everything was clean and ready for us when we arrived. I definitely recommend this home if you want to be on the quiet side of Mount Dessert Island.
Wonderful house in a quiet setting
The house is great — spacious, convenient, and well maintained. We loved being surrounded by the woods with frequent deer visits. The only negative was that a truck pulled in a few times per day to a work site located at the back of the property. If you can ignore that, you will be very happy staying here.
Great house on the quiet side but walkable to breakfast, coffee and trails
We loved staying here for a week in September. The front porch was perfect for coffee and watching the wild turkeys and deer graze in the yard. We loved the fire pit in the back yard to roast marshmallows and look at the stars. Overall a great house in a great location. We would definitely stay here again!
