Very good value on the Quite Side of MDI

  • 4 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The process for renting was streamlined and Jesse responded to my inquiries within 24 hours. Simple instructions when departing too. My daughters loved the swings out front and the fire pit in the back. Feels even more spacious inside than the pictures show. We brought our dog and the pet fee was very reasonable and even walked the dog to Long Pond. Would rent this property again.

Comfortable House for Family Vacation

  • 4 of 5

House was well equipped for 6 adults. Located very close to Long pond hiking trails on the quieter side of Desert Island. It takes about 20-25 minutes to drive to Bar Harbor.

Only issue we encountered was water pressure. Only 1 person can shower at a time ; which is very inconvenient when 6 people are trying to get cleaned up after a day out.

House is more suitable for 4 people due to inability to utilize several water sources at the same time.

Relaxing Retreat

  • 5 of 5

Our week in Southwest harbor was just about perfect...great weather, awesome food, fun activities, and a super place to return to at the end of the day. We took advantage of the many restaurants in the area and cooked very little, but everything you would need to do so is there. The house is about 25 minutes from the crowds of Bar Harbor, and it is convenient to anything you may want to do in Acadia. It was a comfortable house with a great porch,,,hummingbirds visited the hanging flowers daily while we were there. The house is nestled in the woods but for one side where the owner runs a small business so if there is a problem you can expect fast service to make it right. We enjoyed the quiet of the location and would recommend this house and location to anyone. Thank you, Jesse, for sharing your home.

Private and comfortable !

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay here. House is well kept and clean which is very important to us. It is a bit off the beaten path so you really cannot walk to any local attractions but by car is only 5 minutes away from "downtown" Southwest Harbor and about 20-25 minutes from Bar Harbor and the EAST side of Acadia National Park.

We did have any contact with the owner during our visit, but none was needed as everything was just as listed.

We would recommend this rental to families that need to chill out and relax after a good day hiking, kayaking or shopping. Very spacious with room for everyone to hang out.

Highly recommended: Maine State Kayaking, Sips, Upper Deck (great burger!), Little Notch Bakery, and Mainely Meat BBQ (yes, BBQ, not lobster) by Atlantic Brewing Co.

Do the hiking trails!

Great place to relax

  • 4 of 5

The house was great. Clean and well maintained. It was everything described on the VRBO site. No bad surprises. Jesse was easy to work with, and provided great customer service. We did a lot of communicating leading up to the trip, and once there, everything went well, so we didn't have to bother him at all during the stay.

It was a relaxing place to return to after running around on the island all day. Nice and quiet - in the woods. It has neighbors, but lots of space (and trees) between houses. Plenty of space to spread out, and you have your choice of staying inside or hanging out on the covered porch in front, the deck out back or in the back yard by the little fire-pit. The property does have 3 cows (steer) which were fun to watch and listen to. Our daughter loved it - and would ask for the "cows" each morning.

It is within a mile of some of the trails which was fantastic! And there are lots of other trails really close by. Plenty of activities to keep you busy without having to go to the more populated areas around Bar Harbor. There is a butterfly garden very close by that was really pretty. Close to a grocery store, close to Southwest Harbor. You'll want a car or bike to get to Southwest Harbor and the aforementioned activities though. You can walk, but it'll take a while. Good restaurants close by, but a fully stocked kitchen (utensils and appliances) if you want to cook for yourself!

If you want to go to Bar Harbor or other points on the eastern side of the island - figure about a 25-30 min drive.

If you are looking for a nice, quiet place away from lots of people - I would recommend this place. It's not on the water, but it's in the woods, which is just as relaxing.
