Guestbook comments from the manager

My husband and I just spent our first week as a married couple here in beautiful Waimanalo. We couldn't have asked for a more perfect honeymoon in Paradise. Some highlights - watching the sun come up over the water, checking out the view from Makapu'u lookouts, body boarding in the surf, and just relaxing. Thank you Vic & Karla for this memorable and perfect experience of Oahu!!

Very nice studio

Everything you need for a nice stay. Vic was very informative. It is located next to a school so sleeping-in on a weekday was tough, but one of the nicest beaches I have seen and just a couple minute walk from the apartment. Very laid back area.

Convenient location, great beach access! The space was a little too tight for us, I didn't realize how small the one room really way,my bad! Not enough towels for 7days,we don't normally have to wash our own towels while on vacation, I actually bought2 new towels and left behind? The directions were confusing and maybe an actual map could be included with directions! After my MPS started working again,we got there after an exhausting travel day! Nice location just way too small for 2 people!

Owner's Response: We agree that the location is great, one short block to the best swimming beach on Oahu in beautiful, friendly Waimanalo. We provided 5 bath towels and 4 beach towels, normally plenty for a 7 day stay for 2 people. Not being a hotel we don't provide daily towel service, we do have a clothsline to freshen towels and other damp items in the sun and fresh air. But if asked we would bring additional linens. Directions to Driftwood Hideaway are generally very simple and were provided, but the normal route over the Pali Hwy was closed for road work after 9:30pm that week and apparently after a long flight and an arrival time of10:30pm things got a little confusing. The unit has 160 sqft in main room, 60 sqft in bathroom and a private patio of 140 sqft with outdoor seating for four under a market umbrella. As can be seen from the site description, pictures on line and 30+ highly positive reviews, Driftwood Hideaway is more than adequate for 2 people. Aloha, Vic (owner)

Walking distance to the beach!

  • 3 of 5

Good place, but a little tight for longer than a couple days. There was some confusion with the owner over our arrival where he messed up and blamed us initially, so he was perhaps not the most organized, but he was nice enough in the end once he realized his mistakes. And we appreciated his flexibility with the check in time. We really enjoyed the beach that was in walking distance! It was nice that they have beach chairs and such things that you don't get with hotels.

What a gem!

  • 5 of 5

After a hectic week and a half in Waikiki on a business trip, it was such a pleasure to come to Waimanalo for the end of our stay! No crowds, quiet, friendly and the most beautiful beach in Oahu a 3 minute stroll down the road -- you can't really beat it and I'm still struggling to understand why anyone who comes to Oahu would ever choose to stay in tourist trap Waikiki when this place is right around the corner! Vic met us when we arrived and was a gracious host, giving us a quick orientation to the area and helpful tips for good local places to eat (try Ono's in town, kalua pig and malasadas nom nom nom;). The room and amenities were more then sufficient and we had everything we needed along with some unexpected (but much appreciated!) additions of boogie boards and beach chairs! Cannot say enough good things really. If you are looking to get away from the Honolulu/Waikiki madness than this is the spot. The drive south to get there provided some pretty amazing views as well and Waimanalo itself is very picturesque with mountains on all sides but the sea. Will definitely be back. Thanks Vic and Karla!
