We lived in this wonderful home from 1976 until 1986. During that time we fully remodeled this wonderful classic Carmel Valley post adobe home. In 1999 we completely furnished the home and set it up as a vacation rental so we could spend time there ourselves as well as let others enjoy the peace and tranquility it offers. It is our art piece and escape. Everyone who has stayed there loves it and we now have many yearly returning families and groups.
Chuck Stein & Lynda Marin purchased this house in 1976
Carmel Valley Retreat was the home we lived in for over 10 years.
Carmel Valley offers some of the best weather in the world. Over 300 sunny days a year and almost none of the fog that covers Carmel and Monterey all summer long.
We rented this house for the long July 4th weekend and it was 9 adults and 4 babies (all under 10 months). It is such a beautiful home and is fully equipped for all of your needs. We ate in every meal for 4 days and the kitchen is well stocked with all the needed pots, pans, utensils, cookware, etc. It's so close to town that it's easy to run to the market to get something. The driveway is big so it can easily fit 6 cars (we had 5 and there was still space for more). The pool is solar heated so it was still a little chilly but once you're in, it's not so bad. The hot tub was used every night and can fit 4-5 people comfortably. There's a great stash of board games in the dining room and plenty of space to just hang out on the property. We also went wine tasting and hiking. The bathrooms in the main house don't have window coverings so it made some people a little nervous. Otherwise, great house! Very central location to everything. We would love to make this an annual reunion at this house if it's still available in the future.
Combined families stayed at this home for a four day wedding weekend across the highway at Gardener Ranch in June. We comfortably managed 9 people at our peak I think, though two of the younger players had to share the bunk bed room. The house was perfectly set up and the property itself is well maintained and has whatever you would need. Additionally, the bedrooms are separated sufficiently to provide everyone a sense of privacy.
Renting and occupancy was fairly effortless. The location is just 1/2 mile past Bernardus and about 1/4 mile before Carmel Village proper - the latter walkable though but only one of our party braved this on the main Valley road. If I had a large gathering in Carmel Valley in the future (or even Carmel - a 20 minute drive and remember the Valley is largely above the fog belt) - I would absolutely stay here again.
Our family ranging from 8 to nearly 80 loved the convenience of home, the garden settings, and the various nooks for reading, resting, sleeping and eating. The only concern was that the pool was cold and could only be enjoyed by the polar bear in the family. :-(
Our multi-generational family group of nine stayed at the Carmel Valley Retreat for a family wedding at nearby Bernardus Lodge and Spa. We really enjoyed the privacy and peaceful setting of the house. As a one level house (and guest house) the different members of our family were able to spread out with bedrooms in three different areas of the house (three bedrooms in two wings in the main house and two bedrooms in the guest house). This arrangement worked very well for a large family group. While the house isn't new or updated the bathrooms and kitchen are clean and functional. We were pleased that there was plenty of hot water for showers (when it came time for everyone to get ready for the wedding). The outdoor spaces are great, there are two different outdoor dining spots and a pool and hot tub. The pool wasn't warm enough for swimming in October but our group enjoyed the hot tub and breakfast poolside. Chuck and Lynda were very helpful and we would highly recommend a stay at the Carmel valley Retreat. My wife and I agreed it would be nice for the just the two of us to come back and stay sometime, it would be the perfect place to read and relax in a very private setting.
This home is absolutely gorgeous. Our group of 10 visited Carmel Valley for a wedding at the Holman Ranch, and the Carmel Valley Retreat was perfect! Lynda and Chuck are great to work with and are very accommodating. You feel like you are in your own little world when enjoying the beautiful garden and pool area. Further, the wedding I was with had rented a few VRBO properties in the area, so I visited a couple of them, and its not even close. If you want a great experience in Carmel Valley, this is the place for you!
We loved this beautiful home which was a peaceful and wonderful retreat. Very private and quiet. The owners are a pleasure to work with. I absolutely recommend this home!
