I am a married mother of three who lives in the DC area. Spending time in Fire Island has always been a special pleasure for our family,
Shana Weiss purchased this house in 1994
This house was originally built for my husband's aunt in 1947 and has been in the family ever since. We undertook a full renovation in 2008-2009 including the building of an addition with a master bedroom and bath and a laundry room inside the house. The lot was completely leveled and graded this past fall.
Long walks along the beach to the Sunken Forest, a striking natural wonder; chatting with friends and neighbors on the beach, playing board games with family and friends in the evening, walking into town for ice cream, taking the kids to the newly renovated Bay Beach and playground, having a relaxing drink on the front porch or rear deck, finding bargains galore at the Seaview Market!
Had a wonderful family vacation in Fire Island! The house was beautiful, and had all the amenities to make our family of eight feel rite at home. Great location, very quiet and close to the beach or in to town for dinner or ice cream. Shana & Coleman are wonderful hosts and took extra care to make sure we had everything we needed. The bedrooms were very comfortable. Loved the bicycles and the outdoor shower! We will always have wonderful memories of our vacation. I would highly recommend this home!
We rented the house last summer and have nothing but good things to say. It was very clean, great location, and the owners were available and totally helpful.
We have been "day trippers" for quite some time and decided to rent for a week...what a treat! The house was perfect; very clean and centrally located. The pictures of the home were spot on. From star gazing to bike riding we made great memories for our kids. The owners were a pleasure to work with. Would definitely recommend this house.
Property was very clean up on arrival and the beds were extremely comfortable which is not always the case with rental homes. Owners were very easy to work with and very anxious to please. Home is well located for short walk to ferry, market, town or beach.pictures are very accurate. Home is well maintained.
We had spent many summers on Fire Island, and returned after a long hiatus. What a treat. Perfect location, a block and a half from the beach (short blocks), lifeguard on the next block over (setup on the quiet area of the beach at the end of the street. and walk 50 feet on the beach to the supervised swimming area), incredibly well equipped and maintained home with everything you need (beach towels, umbrellas, chairs, bikes, fully equipped kitchen), a lovely back deck and covered front porch (great for morning coffee in the shade). Really clean and updated house. Window A/C units (a real treat on FI) and excellent ceiling fans in all 4 bedrooms and the kitchen. The owners were incredibly helpful and accommodating. A 5 min walk to the ferry and the market, only a 10 min walk into Ocean Beach if you are looking for dinner or action in town, but a lovely quiet Seaview location. Highly recommended.
Pristine home that was very clean and comfortable. Owners were very attentive and made sure that we had a great stay. Outdoor shower and bicycles were also great bonuses.
The house is located in Seaview, a family-oriented community on Fire Island. There are life guards on duty along the beach front in Seaview, a block and one half from the house. There is also a bay beach with a life guard, a playground that was recently upgraded with new equipment, a bay-front pool, swimming lessons for children of all ages, including toddlers, a basketball court, and a baseball/softball field, with pickup games scheduled every Saturday. There are no additional fees for any of these activities, as they are included in the rental. There are also tennis courts across from the bay beach, which tenants will have access to, but for which an additional fee is required. The Seaview ferry terminal and Seaview Market are less than one block from the house, a two-minute walk. The town of Ocean Beach, with many fine stores, restaurants, bars, and a movie theater, is a ten-minute walk from the house. The Fire Island Synagogue is around the corner from the house. Catholic and Protestant Churches are also close by. From the house a pleasant walk can be taken along the beach to the Fire Island Lighthouse and Sunken Forest, run by the National Park Service. Fishing can be done from a dock in the marina at Ocean Beach. Crabbing can be done along the seawall fronting the bay. Surf casting can be done at the beach. There is also good surf at the beach for anyone interested in surfing. Fire Island has an abundance of birds and other wildlife that is sure to fascinate any naturalist. Weekends are pretty lively in Ocean Beach. Free public concerts are held on most Saturday nights. Arts and crafts fairs are also held in Ocean Beach on some Saturdays. There are no cars on the island, making it an ideal locale for children. We have three bicycles at the house, which can be used to take in many of the sights.
