Not an apartment!

  • 1 of 5

The listing description does not tell you that this is the upstairs of the owner's house. There are three rooms and a very small kitchen, however, there is no door at the top of the stairs. Therefore there is no privacy or security. We could not stay here for more than an hour because we did not feel comfortable with the owner's nephews and nieces and grandmother walking around downstairs and us not having a door. If it would have been advertised as a hostel that is one thing but it was listed as an apartment. It is NOT an apartment. The door you see on the outside in the picture is the door to the owner's house. Not the door to the apartment. Some people might not mind staying on the third floor of someone's house, but that should be disclosed in the listing. We ended up leaving and not staying at the house after an hour and Denise did not give me my money back (only the deposit, which I would have gotten back anyway) I was out about $1000 and had to find a new place to stay in NYC on July 4th. VERY DISAPPOINTED!

Owner's Response: The guest wanted a separate entrance that lead to the apartment. The property is a historical brownstone that was once a one family house that was converted to a two family house a very long time ago. (113yrs old) The main entrance is used for the 2nd floor and the 3rd floor access. I have not had any complaints from any other guest about the floor plan. I'm sorry it was not what she had in mind. 2017 UPDATE! The 3rd floor apartment is no longer used for rental. The renovations for the kitchen were completed in 2016. We have a Grand Re-Opening for 2017.

Lovely, spacious brownstone

  • 5 of 5

This met all our expectations. The duplex is very large, and allowed us (four adults) to spread out, making it possible for the younger contingent to stay up late, while the older contingent peacefully snoozed! The duplex was very clean and all amenities were provided (except hand/body soap). We loved the historic nature of the building and the lovely woodwork and stained glass throughout. The outside temperature varied pretty dramatically, but it was easy to control the inside temperature, making the rooms nice and toasty when it was particularly chilly. We felt safe in the area, and easily accessed the subway (which we used daily). We were aware ahead of time that the wifi might be a problem, and just used our iphones to obtain needed information. Denise always promptly answered emails, and Darel was most helpful. We would recommend the property to friends/relatives.

Great Stay!

  • 5 of 5

The apartment was in a great place, just a short train ride into the city. So convenient! The apartment was clean and well kept. The manager was extremely helpful, he even called me a car service to take me to the airport when I left. I'd definitely stay here again next time I go to NYC!

Lots of space.

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at 'Straight to Manhattan' for six days with six grown-ups. We loved the fact that it did not feel crowded. We were very pleased with the fully equipped kitchen, that enabled us to cook a three-course Christmas dinner. There were lots of towels and the whole place was spotless.

Long Weekend for our Anniversary

  • 5 of 5

Brooklyn was not our first choice, but, it ended up to be the right one. For those looking to stay in Manhattan, you have to ask yourself, why? Why pay the price when you could stay a quick subway ride away from everything at D & D's place in Brooklyn. Their home is spectacular. Classic, clean and updated brownstone 2 blocks from the subwway and small shops and deli. The kitchen is perfect for saving $$ by not eating out all the time. We went into the city after 11pm for some "sightseeing" - my wife and I felt very comfortable and safe. Highly recommend!! Thanks again for the ride to the airport, Denise!! Jim & Erin Collins

Stay Here if you want to stay in STYLE!!!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I recently returned from our stay at this property and it was above what we expected. The pictures don't do this house justice. I am a huge fan of older homes so it was a special treat for me to stay in this late 19 century home. The wood work, stain glass windows and beautiful hardwood floors were amazing. The door knobs were glass and some of the rooms had pocket doors!!! The rooms were large and we had most amenities offered at hotels and the comforts of home. Did I mention the towels were nice thick huge towels!!! Quality all the way. The home had been renovated so its completely up to date as you can see from the photos. The neighborhood was completely safe. We often returned from the city via the subway late at night without any problems. It was a very charming area. The subway is very close as well as local restaurants and shopping. When I return to NYC I will be staying at this location. We visited for an entire week and did not have to reach out to the home owner or her manager, who met us at the property upon arrival to show us around, because everything went smoothly. We checked out on Saturday and on Monday I had my deposit refunded to me. Very professional!!! I absolutely dont have any complaints about this rental. Denise made it a easy process from beginning to end and I would strongly recommend this rental property and its owner. I hope to do business with her again soon. Thanks you Denise and Darrell!!!
