Fun Facts about the French Quarter:

The French Quarter is also known as the 'Vieux Carré' witch means 'Old Square' in French. It has been the center of New Orleans since the city was founded.

The French Quarter area was the first land settled in the New Orleans area because it was the highest elevation available. That elevation saved the Quarter from the devastating flooding caused by Hurricane Katrina.

A fire in 1788 and another in 1794 burned most of the French-built properties, and reconstruction was accomplished under the rule of Spain. To this day, architecture in the Quarter retains a strong Spanish influence.

In the late 1800's and the first half of the 1900's, the Quarter was less fashionable than today and housed many new immigrants drawn by low rents.

The later decades of the 1900's saw a revival of the neighborhood due to historical renovation, the 1984 World's Fair and development of the area for tourism.

About Cathy Davis

I live in Las Vegas, Nevada with my wife, Cathy, and have owned the property for 10 years. I have always loved the French Quarter. There's no other place like it in the United States that equals the food, the entertainment and... of course, the history. I have been vacationing in the French Quarter for over 40 years and just can't get enough.

Cathy Davis purchased this studio in 2005

Living like a local

  • 5 of 5

You enter the iron door off the historic Royal Street with all it's vibrant activities and shops. Down the breezeway to the quaint courtyard. Through the french doors you enter into a beautiful studio with ageless wooden floors and old brick walls. Nicely furnished. Makes you feel like a local. You are centrally located, just blocks from Bourbon as well as Jackson Square right behind the unit. Close to all the French Quarter has to offer with out the noise and a quick place for a drink and clean bathroom break. One suggestion, use the bicycles. You can get around quickly and with little ease. Finally Cathy makes doing business a pleasure. Thanks Cathy. I give this cozy home 5 stars and we will definitely rent this on our return trip.

The place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for 8 nights and did not want to leave!

My wife has knee problems (so I did not want stains) and likes it quite for sleeping (so street baloneys were not high on list) but wanted to be immersed in NOLA French Quarter life. The unit is small compared to hotel room with kitchen but we found that we spent a lot less timing in the apartment thane we would have by staying at a hotel. The courtyard was great for romantic mid-morning breakfast and late night nightcaps and everything was latterly few blocks in any direction. Great grocery store within two blocks, large variety of restraints with in two blocks on Royal (more beyond) and of course one block up to Bourbon Street Saints & Sinners, Flanagan’s, and Cat’s Meow within 2+/- blocks.

Will defiantly look for availability on return trip(s)

WILL DEF BOOK AGAIN!!!!

  • 5 of 5

I surprised my partner with a trip to NOLA and tickets to go see Wicked at the theater. Looked and looked for a place to say and someone recommended this place to me. They had stayed in the upstairs unit before and said to check it out. I'm not a fan of stairs so we booked the lower unit. WE COULDN'T have been more pleased with everything!! It's one block from Bourbon! IN THE MIDDLE OF EVERYTHING!!! Loved the fact that we could drink and party all we wanted and could just walk back to the studio and not have to wait on an Uber or drive anywhere. The place is decorated to match the city. Perfectly Done. The studio is small, as any studio is. But we were there long enough to sleep for a bit and shower. The bed was SO comfortable, it was like sleeping on a cloud. The TV was good for listening to music, also had a radio too. Love the natural brick shower!! It's tight, but fully functional. I HIGHLY recommend this place to anyone looking!! IT's so quiet and cozy! It's cray that we were SO close to all the music and noise, yet once you step into the court yard, everyone goes quiet and you have a pretty view of the sky with little noise at all! We will be booking again! Cathy is so easy to work with and very accommodating. I know i asked a million questions and she always answered each one very quickly. Even over text while she was traveling!!! We will be back and will be staying in one of their units!! Parking is a bit spotty, as is anywhere in NOLA. Valet parked with the Bourbon Orleans for the first night, then parked at a friends house the remaining 2 nights. Hearing the church bells Sunday morning topped it all off. Was such an amazing place!

French Quarter Festival Getaway

  • 4 of 5

We had a fabulous experience at this property. Cathy was great to help, keys arrived in lots of time. Apartment was well equipped and quiet at night being away from the street. Location was perfect for walking the French Quarter and we would definitely recommend this property. Only problem was being an old building the floor sloped, so the bed was on a bit of an angle. My husband kept rolling toward the middle!! We propped up the low side and problem solved. Great Holiday!

Perfect Getaway

  • 5 of 5

This could not have been a better place to stay for a quick baby-free weekend away for me and my husband. The condo was small but had everything you need. It was clean, cozy, and the perfect location. We were within walking distance to everything the French Quarter has to offer and despite being right on Royal St., this place is quite the sanctuary from the noise once you are inside.

My husband and I had a slight mix up and Cathy was accommodating and really nice about the whole thing. I cannot say enough great things about this experience. We will definitely be back and highly recommend!!!

Will absolutely be back

  • 5 of 5

I honestly can't say enough good things about this condo and the ease of booking!! Cathy is absolutely great to work with: she responded rapidly to any and all questions that I had, sent me the keys well in advance, included a booklet on condo and nearby area, and provided my deposit within three days of receiving the keys back. As for the condo, it's absolutely adorable. Great size and location for a single traveler, but could definitely be big enough for a couple (except the bathroom, a little cozy, lol). The location on Royal is fantastic as Rouse's (a little food market) is on the same street and Jackson Square is right next door where you will go broke buying all of the amazing local artwork. Additionally, there is a long courtyard between the actual condo and the street, so there was zero street noise within the condo. It makes it so that you can just enjoy the talented person singing right directly by the outside door, rather than worrying that said talent will keep you from sleeping. ;-) Also, the AC works great. When I was there, it averaged about 90 during the day and 75 at night and taking the occasional break to cool down in the AC was perfect. Also, coming from a cooler climate, I personally wouldn't have been able to sleep without the AC.

Small negatives (just for full disclosure): The charming brick shower does leak a bit out into the bathroom if the nozzle is not pointed just right. This can be somewhat averted/mitigated by pointing the nozzle more to the back of the shower and ensuring that you have a towel on the floor when showering. Also, the condo does have a musty smell when you first enter. However, this is New Orleans, the king of muggy weather. How a place can't be a little musty would be beyond me. After running the AC for about a day and buying and burning a candle, the musty smell went away.

Overall, very deserving of five stars.
