We call it Tumalo Pines because our house is nestled on 20 private, forested acres 'toward Tumalo' but just five miles northwest of Bend.
Watch the morning sun light up the Three Sisters Mountain range, cup of coffee in hand as you walk the property with the deer. Relax in the sun on one of three separate decks as many species of birds come to the feeders. Grill meals on the terrace while enjoying a glass of wine in front of the large outdoor fireplace. Star-gaze from the 6-person hot tub.
The house has an open floor plan with 3 bedrooms, 2 baths and a laundry room. The fully-equipped kitchen is open to the great room. The comfortable beds and quiet country nights make for great sleeping. Listen for the owls and coyotes.
It's hard to believe you're only five miles from Bend with its gourmet restaurants and shopping. And, located here on the West-side, there's easy access to Mt Bachelor and the surrounding national forests with their miles of trails for hiking and biking. And, the house is located on one of the prime touring routes so bring your road bike!
Whatever it is that brings you to Bend, be it the rivers and lakes for great fly fishing, golfing in the good weather on any of the 30+ courses within 30 miles of the house, or just relaxing and reading books on the deck, you'll find that our house is wonderful base for your Central Oregon vacation.
Keywords: Privacy, country setting, amid 20 acres of open pine and juniper forest, 5 minutes northwest of Bend, single-story, newer 3 bedroom home.
We value the experience of simply being at Tumalo Pines as much if not more than all of the things we do while we're there.
Doug Wold purchased this house in 2003
I grew up on the wet side of the Cascades and came to love the Central Oregon high desert with its dry climate, dramatic seasons and sun as a kid. Bend has long been 'the place to go' for many Oregonians for the climate and instant access to a myriad of outdoor activites. Adding to that the many good restaurants and all the shopping and services one would need makes it an ideal location. There's a reason so many people love Bend.
The setting is beautiful and amazingly peaceful. The open forest, views and privacy feel like you are much further out of town than just five miles.
Wow!! This was our third stay at Tumalo Pines. We can't say enough good things about the property. The location is fantastic and the view of the Sisters Mountains from the front porch is breathtaking. The hot tub and outdoor fireplace make for delightful evenings at home. The home's close proximity to downtown Bend and to all of the wonderful hiking opportunities in the area make this the perfect getaway. We can't wait to visit Tumalo Pines again. Fantastic!!!! We highly recommend Tumalo Pines.
Everything was perfect -- the property, the home, the location. Private setting. Kitchen fully stocked. Clean and cozy interior. Great hot tub and plenty of firewood. We felt at home and didn't want to leave. We'll be back.
We really enjoyed the back patio area , look forward to another trip to Doug's house.
Our 2nd year in a row to be at Doug's marvelous vacation home. My family and I came back as we had such a great time last year. We weren't disappointed this year by coming back! Lot's of space inside and outside to enjoy your day. Great place that is close by to Cascade Lakes Hwy for hiking, biking, running, and fishing. The family went off and did their activities one day when I just sat around and enjoyed the solitude and comfort of being at the house. Verrrrry peaceful and relaxing! We've only been home a couple of weeks and already my family is asking for us to go back! : ) Ken Bern
The entire property was perfect for a get away for myself and adult sons. Really enjoyed the open living kitchen area and outside deck and fireplace area. It was outfitted with top of the line appliances, had great kitchen supplies, even firewood for the outdoor fireplace! Directions and instructions for the the property were detailed and easy to follow. Excellent experience!
Wonderful time staying in a wonderful house! The house was perfect for our stay in Bend. It was close to downtown Bend with the added luxury of being very private. We thoroughly enjoyed the patio and outdoor fireplace. The house easily fit our needs with two families. We would definitely stay here again! Thanks Doug for sharing your home with us.
