About the property

Villa, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 3 Baths, (Sleeps 6-7)

After traveling to many carribean destinations, Palmas del Mar is like no other vacation getaway. Palmas embraces the island lifestyle in a relaxed setting with a multitude of activities. The people are truly the most friendly in the carribean. It is easy 'in and out ' traveling since there is NO customs and an expressway from the airport to the beach in less than an hour.

I began this journey seven years ago. Palma Nova Village was the end of my search for an island home. Owning this Villa is my lifelong dream. It is my hope to share this dream with you. This is my only rental unit which means I am available 24/7 to create your dream vacation. My staff includes a House Manager, Handyman, Maid, and Concierge that are all fluent in english and spanish. The House Manager is also available 24/7 during your stay. If something breaks, we will address the issue immediately. As a member of the Palmas Athletic Club, I am able to get you into the Palmas pool, tennis club, golf courses, and fitness center. There is also a pool, sauna, and gym( free internet and cable)within the complex. I hope you read the reviews and feel free contact me with any questions.

About Matthew Sorensen

I am a Captain at a major airline. I am based in Boston, Ma. and live in Portsmouth NH. I have the ability to travel and have done so to many island destinations. This is the BEST!!

Matthew Sorensen purchased this villa in 2011

Why Matthew Sorensen chose Puerto Rico

This location is five minutes from the beach, shopping, marina, and restaurants in a thriving resort community. Being a PAC member gives myself and my guests access to the pool, golf and tennis in Palmas.

What makes this villa unique

My Villa is like no other in Palmas del Mar since it is at the highest point in the community. It lends spectacular views of the ocean, rainforest, and Vieques from 3 balconies. The tradewinds add a constant cool breeze over the sound of surf. There is tranquility with a location that has easy access to all the amenities Palmas has to offer. As seen on House Hunters International, Puerto Rico. I am a PAC member which gives you access to the Palmas pool, golf, tennis , and fitness facilities.

One of the best. Ever.

This is one of the best VRBOs we have ever stayed at - hands down. The villa has really fantastic views and the cross breeze is perfect. The 3 levels are fun - bedrooms on bottom, kitchen/dining in the middle, and a truly amazing family room on top.The 3 decks are dreamy, very private for sun tanning, shade, or resting. We liked the design and decor. The amenities at Palmas Del Mar that Matt has access to are top-notch. You can take the golf cart all around the resort. His communication is prompt and informative as are his financial transactions. We only stayed 3 days, and wished it were a week.

There is a local grocery store nearby in Hamacao - Ralph's Food Warehouse - that we preferred to support rather than the Walmart there. The produce was fantastic - way better fruits than we can get in Minnesota this time of year. It is as large and full of options as stores in the States.

There is also a tiny grocery within the Palmas Del Mar resort that has almost everything you need. The same courtyard has a couple of restaurants, bar, shops, frozen yogurt and pretty good pizza at Flying Pizza. Fun place for kids. Beach Bohio is a must eat - casual dining with fantastic hamburgers and strong drinks literally RIGHT next to the ocean. It is on the beach behind the Waldorf Garden in Palmas Del Mar - which also has a casino and a cute sweets shop - David's Cookies.

We had a car so we left the resort to take a drive South along highway 3 - a fun, curvy road that follows along the ocean. Through several towns along the way there are great local, open-air bars with some darn good empanadas. The hills make for some amazing ocean views. We rented the car from Enterprise in San Juan and paid a small fee to return it near Fajardo - stopping first to get ferry tickets to Culebra Island and then having lunch at the amazing El Conquistador Resort where the car rental office is. They drive you back to the ferry dock. We found the ferry was a pleasant experience, no issues at all - but we made the trip on a Thursday to avoid any weekend hassles.

There are not many places we would return to - preferring the adventure of traveling to new Caribbean islands. But we'd reconsider returning to Puerto Rico - Matt's condo is that amazing.

The experience was great. The apartments is just like you see it in the pictures. The king room is really spacious. The common areas are great to spend time looking at the beach or just relaxing. Highly recommended.

Norwegians in paradise

  • 4 of 5

We had a greate stay in Matt's house. The house met our expectations based on the information from Matt and the picture of his place. Joaquin was helpfull with all the information we needed about Palmas del Mar and the area around the house. One thing that can be better, buy a new coffemaker.

Owner's Response: Maybe it is the view.....maybe coffee tastes better in Puerto Rico. This coffee maker makes the best coffee I have ever tasted!! So good that I will shed a tear when this coffee maker retires. Thanks for the review. There is a new back up coffee maker in case you don't like the original.

Great place to stay

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this villa for 14 days (2 adults and 2 teenagers) and have to admit that this is a great place to relax and to start your everyday excursion across PR. Back in the evenings we enjoyed the fully equipped villa. Either we had a barbecue and enjoyed our homemade Margaritas or we just went to the nearby restaurants at Palmanova Plaza or within the resort.

The spacious place (3 floors) had enough room so everybody could choose his favorite place. In the evenings the kids went upstairs to watch TV and we enjoyed the evening breeze at the balcony or upper terrace and listened to the funny sound of the Coquillo (PR’s famous little frogs which sounds more like a bird than a frog).

Everything what you need is available and the air conditioner did a good job during some hot days. It is indeed a quiet location even we came during the summer holidays of the Puerto Ricans. On the weekends it was more life and action that remembered us on summer holidays in Spain or Italy (nothing to complain) and during the week only a few stayed at the compound. We also rented a golf cart during our stay, which we highly recommend because you get access to parts of the resort that you can’t have with your car. Especially the sundowners at the beach bar are a must (bar will close at 6:30pm). We also went two times to the beach club (Joaquin the house manager will assist you to apply for the temporary access). The club is a bit costly but has a nice pool area and a great beach view.

For groceries and other things there is either a small grocery store at the resort at Plamanova Plaza or you just drive 20 minutes to Humacao’s Plaza Real (junction 53/3).

The resort is very safe as well as PR. We drove a lot up and down in PR and never felt unsafe even not in the evenings. We also visited some of the „famous“ beaches like Lunquillo, Seven Seas and others and can recommend them all. The rainforest, San Juan and one of the islands should be on your sight seeing list.

We will not repeat what the other guest already stated in their resume but we can fully confirm their statements and reviews.

Many thanks to Joaquin the property manager who was very helpful and also many thanks to Matt who is a straightforward person and made the rental very simple to us.

To our fellow countrymen from Europe and especially Germany: Come to Puerto Rico it is a great place to spent your holidays in the Caribbean.

Beautiful home...beautiful views

  • 5 of 5

Although we have family in PR and have visited many times, we wanted to stay on our own but have enough room for family to visit. We found this villa and thought it was too good to be true, but it was EXACTLY as pictured and described! I love to cook and don't get to do it as often as I would like, so finding a fully functional kitchen with all the fixings was perfect...within 10 minutes were several supermarkets, Sams club, and various drug stores that sell everything. Also, there's a small grocery store right on the property. The 3 levels allowed for the children and adults to have their own space and then come together when ever they want. The pool was perfect and never too busy. What we liked the most was the "take something, leave something" attitude of the villa. Items left behind by precious visitors are left there for you to cups, folding chairs, spices/seasonings, and kiddie pool/beach toys. It made it easy to do whatever you wanted. We found a few minor issues when we arrived and most were fixed in a reasonable timeframe. The cutest thing we found was a guest book where people have recommendations and told you about great places to visit.

My grandmother stayed with us and we thought it would be a challenge because of all the stairs, but it wasn't.

Renting a gold cart was perfect for a few days so you can explore the entire grounds of Palmas.

Lastly, the location of the villa itself was great. Quiet and secluded so you could enjoy a glass of wine or cup of coffee in peace! Overall, a fantastic vacation!
