Guestbook comments from the owner

Our family has been coming here annually for so many years, we feel as if Timber Ridge Lodge is our vacation home. Thank you for taking such good care of this special place. We expect to spend many more family gatherings here. Staying anywhere else just wouldn't do. This little valley is so scenic - a little bit of heaven.

Perfect family gathering with lots of outdoor space for the kids to run.

The lodge and guesthouse had plenty of sleeping space for our family. We had 14 adults, and 5 children ages 2 to 8. With two separate living areas, the kids could watch movies and play games in one, while adults could visit in the other area. The kitchen was well stocked with dishes and cooking utensils. We had above average temperatures, so the adults and kids all enjoyed time outdoors. We took advantage of the horseshoe pits, sand volleyball court, and badminton. We cooked a few dutch oven meals in the firepit and enjoyed an evening campfire. The kids especially enjoyed exploring around the creek and trying a little fishing with equipment supplied. Family came from South Dakota, Wyoming, Montana, and Colorado. The farthest anyone had to drive was 6 hours, so it was a perfect central location. We'd love to stay here again.

For Christmas 2015 we arranged a family vacation for my parents and we lucky to have chosen this lodge. There were 11 of us - 10 adults and one teenager. There was more than enough room between the lodge and the bunkhouse for all of us - we could have accommodated many more. Both homes were well kept up and quite lovely - we felt right at home. The kitchen was fully stocked and I can't think of any equipment we needed that wasn't provided. There was plenty of eating space for all of us and two nice living areas to congregate. The property was close to town, but private. There was a nice outdoor firepit and we roasted marshmallows a couple of nights. Huge yard that would be great for families with young children. There was great furniture on a large wrap around porch - a great place to sit and chat or read the paper. I have to say that it was a real dilemma between staying at the house and enjoying the lovely atmosphere, or exploring all of the wonderful destinations in the area - there are so many things go see! We did both, but in the end I wished we had more time to just hang out around the lodge. However, we enjoyed many wonderful attractions such as Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Wind Cave, Hill City, Custer State Park (multiple times), etc. This was my first time to Mt. Rushmore at night and I would highly recommend that for anyone - it was a great program which honored our veterans. It was a perfect retreat for a large group!

We just returned from our South Dakota vacation and rented this property for our 4 nights in the Black Hills area. This was a wonderful place for us to stay. The location is perfect for taking in sights around the Rapid City area. We were within an hour of all the places we wanted to visit: Jewel Cave, Wind Cave, Mt Rushmore, Custer State Park. It was so fun to be in a remote location yet only a 10 minute drive to town. We loved all the stars we were able to's the best stargazing I have ever seen! Also waking up to turkey, deer and even cows in the yard was a treat! Our kids enjoyed the large yard and the swings. The inside of the house is very comfortable with many different seating areas. It was nice to have the kids in one room watching a movie and the adults could be in a different room. Everything we needed was provided...the house was clean and felt like home. Our kids didn't want to leave! We will definitely rent this property again if we get back in the area.

Celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary with all our kids and grandchildren(15 in all). We have rented several times through VRBO and this was the most comfortable and well stocked place we have had. The grandchildren all stayed out in the guest and enjoyed having their own space. It's location is great to take in all the things there are to do in the hills. We were not very far from anything. The view is beautiful when sitting on the decks. Thank you for making our week so comfortable with a real feel of home.

Perfect house for a large family. We had our daughter's wedding in Keystone so lots of things to do and the house was perfect for that. We would love to return again as all the attractions are within a short distance or you can just sit and relax and watch the wildlife and grandchildren play! Thank you for sharing this beautiful home!
