Get out of town and stay at the Lake!
Rick and Lorrie have been together since 1980 and have two grown children. They have always loved to have guests over and share their lives. Twenty some years ago they said to themselves, “I wish we could make a living doing this.” Then in 2003, they bought this fantastic house on the lake in order to realize their dream.
You will find Rick and Lorrie knowledgeable about the area. They are around for information, but as someone stated, “Hospitality abounds while guest’s privacy and solitude are highly respected.” They both love music and you might find them going out to concert or to a music festival.
We are innkeepers with an excellent housekeeping staff so you can be sure your accommodations will be spotless. Fluffy towels, bottled water, and chocolate are just a few of the amenities that set us apart.
Lorrie Runnels purchased this cottage in 2003
This vacation rental was originally the carriage house for the Silas Marsh Estate, now the Mariaville Lake B&B. It is on the property so we can make sure everything is perfect for your stay.
Where else can you get a stocked fridge? We provide coffee, tea, granola, eggs, bread, bacon, juice, real locally made maple syrup and more so you have breakfast for a few days.
We were looking for a relaxing, restful get away and we found it and more. We live in a very busy area outside Baltimore, MD and wanted to get away. Rick and Lorrie were very friendly and the cottage was one of the cleanest places we have stayed in. They even provided plenty of staples that were beyond our expectations. It was like the home we would like to retire to. We would recommend this cottage to anyone wanting a quiet get away. We are hoping to return next year.

We simply had such a great time as a family staying for more than a week in Lorrie & Rick Lake Cottage in August.
The cottage was very clean (at arrival and during) and had everything we needed for our stay. The beds were good and we figured out the benefits of air-conditioning when it is over 90F outside . We really appreciated the local goodies in the fridge for breakfast as well as the outdoor activities in the front of the cottage (kayak, bikes, fire-place).
We could even swim in the lake due to the high temperature. We were introduced to the S'mores with a real dark sky with plenty of stars... Jogging around the lake (2,8miles) was a good and probably necessary exercise to stay in good shape.
Lorrie and Rick are amazing hosts: they are at the same time available and "invisible"; they can provide really good tips and activities such as the Owe's Cavern. The main house is also amazing: we noticed all the work, time and 'love' that Lorrie & Rick invested in their home.
In case you feel hungry, the small grocery around the corner can provide with pizzas and wings, as well as fresh beer.
The situation allows to get to Lake George in about 90min, Saratoga Springs in 60min and NYC in less than 3hours.
The pictures are actual: this is really it.
It was great to take our breakfast/lunch or dinner in front of the house, or just above the lake. The kids were amazed of the scenery every single day. There is almost no traffic.
Last but not least: yes, there is WiFi and Sat-TV ... but do you go in such an amazing and relaxing place to watch a screen for hours?
In short, we highlz recommend this place but please don't say it too loud... or we might face overbooking and we won't be able to book when we come back next time.
To Lorrie & Rick: we thank you for making our "NY Up State" visit such a amazing time. We hope the little cat found his way back home in great shape. Take care and we wish you all the best!
We had the pleasure of staying in Rick & Lorrie's lake cottage this past weekend and enjoyed every minute of it. The house was very clean and had all the necessities from towels to toiletries, and local goodies in the fridge for breakfast. We highly recommend taking the kayaks out to explore the lake. Rick and Lorrie are wonderful hosts and we hope to enjoy another stay soon.
We truly had a fabulous and relaxing vacation!
The cottage was very neat, CLEAN and cozy.
Rick was a great host. The place was all stocked with basic needs (plenty towels, soaps, tissues) he even left light breakfast in fridge, with plenty water bottles which we took along on our trips.
We enjoyed going to the Adirondaks zoo, Great escape in Lake george and of course just staying on grounds and using the boats in the scenic lake.
I must add that the neighbors were extremely friendly and kind to us, that made our so much more pleasant.
I highly recommend this place. We would love to come back sometime.

So, now that you have landed on this page, what would you do if you booked a stay with us? Several options come to mind.
The most obvious is to settle into a comfortable Adirondack chair, glass of wine or beer in hand, watch the lake and the geese and, if you're lucky, bald eagles! We had a couple from the Netherlands who spent many happy hours just watching the chipmunks scamper.
Kayaking and canoeing on Mariaville Lake is sweet! It's fun to see everyone's house and folks are friendly. We'll be happy to give you a lesson before you shove off.
When you are rested you can take a drive to Schoharie County and visit Howe Caverns, a pretty cool place open all year round. They now have zip lines and a rope course which looks pretty awesome. The Iroquois Indian Museum is right next door to the Caverns, too. There are all sorts of historical places around here. The Capital Region was settled (by Europeans) way before the Revolutionary War.
If a little night life is more your speed, Schenectady and Albany have good restaurants, theater, and live music. I am particularly fond of MOPCO, the Capital Region's premiere improv troupe. If you need a good laugh, Friday night with MOPCO is the place to be.
Sunday is Schenectady Green Market Day, and going to the Green Market is a guest favorite. Loads of vendors, live music and truly the best pesto anywhere.
