About Bret Sigillo

Jessica and I live on the North Carolina coast. She's the city girl and I'm the country field mouse. I'm an avid scuba diver and golfer, and she's the consummate traveler, cook, and voracious reader. Her roots go back to Sevilla in Spain while I've lived in NY/NJ most of my life. I'm the author of The Beach Books (Eleuthera, Curacao, Tortola), The Eleuthera Beach Map, and the Eleuthera Travel Guide.

Bret Sigillo purchased this cottage in 1999

Why Bret Sigillo chose Bahamas

This was the second home I tried to buy in Eleuthera. I fell in love with the island on my first visit. After failing in negotiations for a place in Eleuthera Island Shores I was lucky enough to come across an ad for this place in the back of Islands magazine. The rest is history. I've since opened up my own vacation rental business, which I operate in my spare time, and recently completed publishing my fourth book on the beaches. The Eleuthera Beach Book has made the #1 Best Selling Bahamian Travel Guide list.

What makes this cottage unique

Most of our guests love the vibrant color of the water evident from every room of the house and on the huge deck. They also say that they didn't realize how close the house was to the water (about 30 feet) from the pictures.

I've always been partial to the wide open feeling of the cathedral ceilings coupled with its location. Great swimming, kayaking, snorkeling, beaching, and caving all without having to get in a car.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Couldn't have been better. We loved our stay at SeaDreams for a multitude of reasons. Eleuthera was exactly as we'd heard-primitive yet extraordinarily beautiful, quaint yet vibrantly colorful. The beaches were out of this world, and as advertised, we usually had them all to ourselves. SeaDreams is situated perfectly on the Caribbean Sea; incredible sunsets and calm, tranquil waters await. The accommodations were very nice and attainable at an excellent price. Highlights of our trip include Rainbow Bay, Lighthouse Beach (unequivocally worth the drive, NOT as bad as we thought it could be. There are 4-5 really rough spots, but other than that it's only about 20 minutes of 'jungle driving') and a trip to the cliffs by Glass Window bridge. From SeaDreams, you'll be perfectly located to explore the island! Don't stay anywhere else! I loved it, and we'll definitely be back.

There is a lot of talk about no see ums and sand fleas-yes, they are there, but we were hardly ever bothered, and it's really only at dusk and the early morning hours.

When traveling to an unfamiliar location, you'll want a host who's knowledgeable and a good communicator. The owner embodies both of those characteristics and does a brilliant job of helping you feel taken care of.

Get groceries upon arrival-I neglected to do this and we couldn't find a place to eat our first night. Not the end of the world, just plan accordingly. It was about the only negative on our entire trip.

Overall a fantastic honeymoon. Glad we came here, we have a lifetime of memories. Thanks Bret!!!

Pretty as the picture

The property itself is magnificent...Just as others described it... Perfect "getaway" for a couple... The unit has everything you may need...except...

The property manager...

We were very deceived by this guy, nice on the phone, but gave us a song and dance regarding the type of car requested and then available... If you do decide to rent his" jeep"... it is in terrible condition... no airbags, wires sticking out of the drivers side seat, filthy all around. When we went to pick it up, he charged an additional $80.00 cash for "transport" fees, never discussed prior ! Also there was NO water for drinking or making coffee when we checked in... Not too many stores nearby and we had already driven by and stopped at the market on our way in.

Owner's Response: Thanks for taking the time to submit a review and glad you enjoyed the property. Regarding concerns, renting a vehicle is not a service we provide. We recommend our property manager's car rental business as an option for it's convenience. It is up to the renter to work out arrangements directly. Local businessmen who rent vehicles on the island charge drop off fees when picking up and returning to alternate airports such as ELH or RSD if they operate out of GHB. Bottled water is not supplied with our rental. We supply a 5 gallon water bottle and pump that needs to be filled when empty. This was explained in our welcome letter. Many times previous tenants will leave some water, but that doesn't appear to be the case this time so sorry about that. Most renters prefer filling the bottled water, however, boiled cistern water is perfectly fine for coffee. There are two markets in Savannah Sound that are open 7 days a week and within a mile of the house. Several other markets in North Palmetto Point are within 3 miles.

wonderful water and privacy

  • 5 of 5

The beach the property is located on was great for starfish and sand dollars. Having the kayaks and snorkeling gear available was awesome because the snorkeling around the shoreline and rocks was great with abundant fish.

Loved that there were hardly any people around.

Kitchen was well equipped for cooking local foods/ fish and the entire cottage was clean and inviting

Island Paradise

  • 4 of 5

Perfect location on the beach! Quiet and secluded but having a car is a must. Nice to have the Wi-Fi so you aren't totally cut off from the world. Never saw so many stars in the sky at night and it is deafening quiet! House is nice and perfect for one couple and we had everything we needed. Groceries are very expensive so bring with if possible.

Great Location on Ten Bay

  • 4 of 5

★ ★ ★ ★ ★

My wife and I stayed for 12 days and had a wonderful time. The home is situated in one of the nicest locations on the island. You are definitely not isolated here as there are neighbors and other visitors who come to the beach. It gives you the feeling of being "home" and not just another number at a resort. You will never feel crowded. It's central location on the island makes it easy to explore from one end to another and your just a short distance to fulfill all your shopping needs. The kayaks are a great amenity as is the quality snorkeling equipment. You can fish from your backyard or wade the bay for bonefish. If you plan to fish, you need to bring your own gear. We enjoyed the gas Weber BBQ for outside cooking. It makes those lobster tails taste especially good! The recent upgrades to the house are very nice and continuing improvements will only make it better.

To me this house is ideal for a couple and maybe no more than a couple younger children. My opinion is that it would be a little cramped for two couples. If your one who can't unplug and enjoy what mother nature provides,

there is wi-fi, phones and a nice TV for movies. There are also books and board games for those days that you just want to hang around and chill. The caretaker, Arthur Nixon meet us at the airport and also supplied a rental car. He is available by phone or messaging should you need anything. Our correspondence with Bret, the owner was very easy and prompt. He takes the time to insure all of your questions or concerns are answered.

Excellent location, Immaculate home and Excellent owners

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed here for our Baby Moon. We couldn't have been more pleased.

First off - the house is immaculate - it's spotless and perfectly appointed with just the right amount of material possessions. The kitchen is fully functional, the bedroom is ample, the deck is stunning and there's a big tv (subtly located in the corner) with Netflix for when you want it. To top it off, you're on Ten Bay Beach, one of the nicest beaches on the island (the only beach we liked better was lighthouse beach, but you can't stay there and you need an SUV just to visit it). Ten bay beach has multiple personality disorder - at high tide it looks like every stunning magazine white sand Caribbean beach picture you've seen. But then at low tide the shallow bay becomes a series of tiny white beach islands. Stunning! Add in the free Kayaks and snorkel equipment provided - you really don't need to leave (except for buying groceries and rum!). If you're lucky, you'll get a storm and watch the waves crash into Bret's man made beach (essentially a oversized sandbox for your kids - don't worry they've provided the sandbox toys as well).

Secondly, Bret is the nicest guy. Aside from being super responsive, he was also incredibly helpful when we forgot our passports in the house and missed our flight off the island! He saved us from a night of homelessness (which included juggling the cleaning staff to get the house ready for the next renters). I'm not just saying he's a good home owner/renter, but also a very good person.

Thirdly, we spent one night at "The Cove" a fine hotel with a very fine price tag. You would think we would have enjoyed this night in luxury at the end of our stay in Eleuthera, but my wife and I both talked about how we miss Sea Dreams. From our perspective, this house had every luxury imaginable. I would never stay at a resort on this island - it only feels confining.

Thank you Bret - I hope this review helps you understand how much we enjoyed Sea Dreams and how grateful we are for all your help.
