About Bret Sigillo

Jessica and I live in northwestern NJ. She's the city girl and I'm the country field mouse. I'm an avid scuba diver and golfer, and she's the consummate traveler, cook, and voracious reader. Her roots go back to Sevilla in Spain while I've been in NY/NJ most of my life. I'm the author of The Beach Book, Eleuthera, Bahamas edition.

Bret Sigillo purchased this cottage in 1999

Why Bret Sigillo chose Bahamas

This was the second home I tried to buy in Eleuthera. I fell in love with the island on my first visit. After failing in negotiations for a place in Eleuthera Island Shores I was lucky enough to come across an ad for this place in the back of Islands magazine. The rest is history. I've since opened up my own vacation rental business, which I operate in my spare time, and recently completed publishing my first book on the beaches of Eleuthera, which has made the #1 Best Selling Bahamian Travel Guide list.

What makes this cottage unique

Most of our guests love the vibrant color of the water evident from every room of the house and on the huge deck. I've always been partial to the wide open feeling of the cathedral ceilings coupled with its location. Great swimming, snorkeling, beaching, and caving all without having to get into a car.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Couldn't have been better. We loved our stay at SeaDreams for a multitude of reasons. Eleuthera was exactly as we'd heard-primitive yet extraordinarily beautiful, quaint yet vibrantly colorful. The beaches were out of this world, and as advertised, we usually had them all to ourselves. SeaDreams is situated perfectly on the Caribbean Sea; incredible sunsets and calm, tranquil waters await. The accommodations were very nice and attainable at an excellent price. Highlights of our trip include Rainbow Bay, Lighthouse Beach (unequivocally worth the drive, NOT as bad as we thought it could be. There are 4-5 really rough spots, but other than that it's only about 20 minutes of 'jungle driving') and a trip to the cliffs by Glass Window bridge. From SeaDreams, you'll be perfectly located to explore the island! Don't stay anywhere else! I loved it, and we'll definitely be back.

There is a lot of talk about no see ums and sand fleas-yes, they are there, but we were hardly ever bothered, and it's really only at dusk and the early morning hours.

When traveling to an unfamiliar location, you'll want a host who's knowledgeable and a good communicator. The owner embodies both of those characteristics and does a brilliant job of helping you feel taken care of.

Get groceries upon arrival-I neglected to do this and we couldn't find a place to eat our first night. Not the end of the world, just plan accordingly. It was about the only negative on our entire trip.

Overall a fantastic honeymoon. Glad we came here, we have a lifetime of memories. Thanks Bret!!!

Great Location on Ten Bay

  • 4 of 5

★ ★ ★ ★ ★

My wife and I stayed for 12 days and had a wonderful time. The home is situated in one of the nicest locations on the island. You are definitely not isolated here as there are neighbors and other visitors who come to the beach. It gives you the feeling of being "home" and not just another number at a resort. You will never feel crowded. It's central location on the island makes it easy to explore from one end to another and your just a short distance to fulfill all your shopping needs. The kayaks are a great amenity as is the quality snorkeling equipment. You can fish from your backyard or wade the bay for bonefish. If you plan to fish, you need to bring your own gear. We enjoyed the gas Weber BBQ for outside cooking. It makes those lobster tails taste especially good! The recent upgrades to the house are very nice and continuing improvements will only make it better.

To me this house is ideal for a couple and maybe no more than a couple younger children. My opinion is that it would be a little cramped for two couples. If your one who can't unplug and enjoy what mother nature provides,

there is wi-fi, phones and a nice TV for movies. There are also books and board games for those days that you just want to hang around and chill. The caretaker, Arthur Nixon meet us at the airport and also supplied a rental car. He is available by phone or messaging should you need anything. Our correspondence with Bret, the owner was very easy and prompt. He takes the time to insure all of your questions or concerns are answered.

Excellent location, Immaculate home and Excellent owners

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed here for our Baby Moon. We couldn't have been more pleased.

First off - the house is immaculate - it's spotless and perfectly appointed with just the right amount of material possessions. The kitchen is fully functional, the bedroom is ample, the deck is stunning and there's a big tv (subtly located in the corner) with Netflix for when you want it. To top it off, you're on Ten Bay Beach, one of the nicest beaches on the island (the only beach we liked better was lighthouse beach, but you can't stay there and you need an SUV just to visit it). Ten bay beach has multiple personality disorder - at high tide it looks like every stunning magazine white sand Caribbean beach picture you've seen. But then at low tide the shallow bay becomes a series of tiny white beach islands. Stunning! Add in the free Kayaks and snorkel equipment provided - you really don't need to leave (except for buying groceries and rum!). If you're lucky, you'll get a storm and watch the waves crash into Bret's man made beach (essentially a oversized sandbox for your kids - don't worry they've provided the sandbox toys as well).

Secondly, Bret is the nicest guy. Aside from being super responsive, he was also incredibly helpful when we forgot our passports in the house and missed our flight off the island! He saved us from a night of homelessness (which included juggling the cleaning staff to get the house ready for the next renters). I'm not just saying he's a good home owner/renter, but also a very good person.

Thirdly, we spent one night at "The Cove" a fine hotel with a very fine price tag. You would think we would have enjoyed this night in luxury at the end of our stay in Eleuthera, but my wife and I both talked about how we miss Sea Dreams. From our perspective, this house had every luxury imaginable. I would never stay at a resort on this island - it only feels confining.

Thank you Bret - I hope this review helps you understand how much we enjoyed Sea Dreams and how grateful we are for all your help.

Absolutely Wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

I am hesitant to write a review because I want to keep SeaDreams and Ten Bay all to myself!

My husband and I stayed at this most wonderful cottage for our 30th

wedding anniversary in July. It was perfect! Bret, the owner, was very

easy to communicate with. He promptly answered my MANY emails (before,

during, and after our stay) and always answered all of my silly questions

without making me feel like they were anything other than important. His

Eleuthera Guide Book (ebook) and The Beach Book (print) were a huge help.

The house was accurately described in the listing and the pictures are

just like what we saw in person....well, it is better in person. We were

very pleased! We had everything we needed and the house was furnished

nicely and it was comfortable and clean. There was no washer or dryer but

with the small amount of clothes that we used, handwashing them was not a

problem and it was nice just keeping it simple. The view from the house

and deck was beautiful. Sunsets were breathtaking. With just steps to

the water, we enjoyed kayaking and snorkeling every day. The 2 kayaks

included in the rental was a nice bonus. There is abundant sea life all

around. We stepped off to the left and went snorkeling or stepped off to

the right and we had the beach within reach. Floating and swimming in Ten

Bay's crystal clear water was Heaven!

The property is situated almost in the middle of the length of the island

which made it convenient for exploring the entire island of Eleuthera. We

saw many beautiful beaches during our stay, but we could not wait to get

back "home" to SeaDreams, Ten Bay, and the sunsets.

We rented our car from the property manager, Arthur. We never saw him or

heard from him during our stay except for a phone call we made to him upon

arrival about our car, but that was ok. I am sure we could have reached

him if we had needed anything. We were able to reach him, without

problem, a couple of times prior to our stay.

I highly recommend this rental, but please save me a spot on the calendar

for next time!

Absolutely perfect!!

  • 5 of 5

We went to Eleuthera for a 11 day stay after a stressful city trip to NY. The house manager welcomed us at the airport, he also was the lessor for our car. We arrived on a Sunday afternoon where the grocery stores usually are already closed, but Arthur (the property manager) organized a "special opening" for us. So we could start to our house after buying some essentials at the grocery store in Govenours Habour.

Arthur also gave us the keys for the house and a very detailed description, so we were able to find the location very easily.

The house is situated in a private road near a handful other beach houses. The first impression was great, the garden in front of the house very nice. When we went in, the good impression turned into excellent! The furniture and the kitchen were new and modern, due to the fact that there was a renovation in autumn 2014. The view from the living room and the bedroom were absolute incredible. Just the sea and the beach! There were probably about 10 people on a busy day during our stay at the beach. So everything was completely private and incredible calm.

The house owner was very helpful beforehand and even during our stay reachable every time, emails were answered within a few hours (mostly within one hour). There was an information map with a lot of details regarding Eleuthera and its villages. A lot of recommendations regarding grocery, restaurants, doctors, ATM, activities etc. briefly everything you have to know to have a very comfortable stay there. TV, Netflix, phone and WIFI are available, even a local mobile for emergency. Furthermore there a brand new kayaks which are really fun to use, even if you haven't used them before!

The house is equipped with two air conditions, one in the living room / kitchen and one in the bedroom. The last one was a very silent one, so we could sleep with the AC operating. The bathroom was excellent as well.

We can 110% recommend Bret and his house! It was absolutely excellent and we would love to come back!

Really a fantastic place. Exceeded expectations!

  • 5 of 5

Everything was great about this place. The house itself was really nice. Very clean, all new appliances (fancy gas stove) nice layout lots of towels. Great fans and AC. Outside area was fantastic-places to sit, fantastic view right on one of the nicest beaches in Eleuthera. Location is fantastic-close to town and food but easy driving distance of the really nice southern eleuthera beaches. Would highly encourage people to stay there. Bret the owner was extremely helpful and responsive. Got back to me multiple times via email within the hour. Buy his book "Beaches of Eleuthera". And stay at his house!!!!!!
