Joe and Monique met several years ago and began what many would describe as a second life together. Joe is a cabinet maker and a native of Bar Harbor but has lived in Hulls Cove for many years while Monique now works at a locally owned pharmacy and at the MDI hospital.
.Together their personal goals merged on a paralell path,Joe now has the cabinet shop he has alwas wanted and for Monique a small buisness ownership that puts her in contact with a variety of interesting people.
They now very much look forward to the new friends and experiences that sharing their property and the Island's treasures will bring.
Monique Hanson purchased this apartment in 2011

We really enjoyed our stay! The accommodations were just lovely- beautiful courtyard- great apartment with amenities. Just as pictured. Monique & Joe were incredibly friendly and welcoming. We were very close to the park entrance & a short drive from downtown bar harbor. Would definitely recommend & hope to be back!
We had a wonderful stay at the Wayfairing Mermaid Suite. It was perfect for our family of four. We enjoyed the park, downtown Bar Harbor and even walked to Hulls Cove at low tide. The apartment is exactly as described, fully stocked and so nicely appointed. We used the beautiful courtyard fireplace to roast marshmallows too. The pull out couch was great and they even offered a single air mattress that our youngest daughter used. Monique and Joe are the nicest owners. They gave us advice about a mechanic to get a car battery and helped jump our car - truly above and beyond wonderful hosts. Would definitely recommend to friends and stay here again.
Last week we spent five wonderful days in Bar Harbor/Arcadia National Park experiencing beautiful fall foliage and the tastes and sights of the area. A major contributing factor to our enjoyment was our stay at the Wayfaring Mermaid Suite. I received a quick response from Monique and the booking was seamless. The property was spotless, big full sized appliances with a comfortable bed and thick towels. For us the location was perfect very close to the park entrance and a short drive to town. We have rented many apartments and this is by far one of our favorites. I highly recommend this place and want to thank Joe and Monique for their hospitality.
This apartment is very comfortable and has everything you need for your stay. It is very clean, has a well-equipped kitchen, washer and dryer, and a sweet little courtyard outside. We enjoyed the well-made cabinets and counters, constructed by Joe. It is decorated in a charming, relaxing way by Monique. We spent most of our time in the park hiking, and when we returned to the apartment, we felt at home and rested well.
This was a first trip north for my husband and I, and we thoroughly enjoyed our sojourn to Maine. The Wayfaring Mermaid Suite offers quick access to the many wonders of Acadia State Park and the charms of Bar Harbor. This apartment is immaculate and very well-designed. Every convenience has been anticipated and provided. We especially appreciated the well-equipped kitchen, full-size washer and dryer, and private parking. There is plenty of space to stash luggage, and a lovely side-garden with a fire pit. The owners could not be any nicer, even arranging flowers to welcome us upon arrival. We loved every minute of this vacation and would highly recommend this rental to couples or small families who appreciate quality and great value.
I'm still here and was just very eager to write a stellar review. We couldn't be happier staying here!
We had never been to Bar Harbor before, so we were "blindly" looking for accommodations. When booking at first, I was concerned that the apartment is a few miles out of town, but I AM SO GLAD WE ARE NOT IN THE MIDDLE OF TOWN! The apartment is quiet with ocean breezes and lots of sun-- none of which I think you would get amidst the business of town. Town is only a quick 5 minute drive and there is plenty of parking. Very convenient.
The apartment is also a stone's throw from the Acadia entrance, which turned to be perfect when traveling with our 2-year old. We can enjoy part of the park in the morning, conveniently head home for nap time, then head back. If you plan to visit the park (and it will take you DAYS to enjoy all parts), this is the perfect location. There is also Hull's Cove, a little beach, and restaurant about a block away.
As far as the apartment-- it is absolutely lovely! It is so clean and well-maintained that I feel like we are the first family to stay in it. Very comfortable. Every detail is gorgeous and meticulous (including fresh flowers upon arrival! And sand toys and coolers for trips to the beach!) Monique and Joe are kind and attentive. They even have a lovely outdoor patio for tenants with a fireplace stocked with wood and gas and charcoal grills. Perfect place for wine in the evening after putting the little one to bed! We are also very appreciative that they have a Pack and Play. That means we all get a good night's sleep!
We highly highly recommend staying here!
