Mike and I are 30 year residents of the Big Island. We have always loved the Volcano area and spent a lot of time camping and staying at different B&B's in the area. We purchased Pukeawe Cottage in 2001 and then within the next few years we were able to purchase the lots on both sides of our house giving us almost an acre of land. Much of the land was over taken by invasive species and we have worked hard to clear the land and replant with natives and non invasive plants. We feel very proud of what we have created here and hope our guests enjoy the park like surroundings.

MARGARET SMITH PIERCE purchased this house in 2001

Why MARGARET SMITH PIERCE chose Volcano Golf and Country Club

We chose to buy our future retirement home in this neighborhood because it is secluded yet close to all the things we enjoy. Hiking and biking and working in our gardens are things we enjoy when we visit our home in Volcano and we look forward to doing more of it when we are able to retire. We are both very busy small business owners in Kona so we cherise all the time that we have at Pukeawe Cottage.

What makes this house unique

You will be visited daily by the birds that drop in to be fed. We provide the food so

you can enjoy their presence.

Guestbook comments from the manager

The cottage was so great! I didn't want to go home! Cozy fire, beautiful stairs and rooms. We went bike riding, ate some Thai food & got a souvenir from Volcano. Thanks so much!

It is so peaceful.

wonderful cottage

  • 5 of 5

This was a perfect home for our family! It is immaculately clean and every convenience was provided. The beds were comfortable and there was plenty of room to spread out. We had 6 in our party. There is wifi and books/dvds - multiple entertainment opportunities. But it honestly is just SO CUTE. There are almost tame pheasants and finches that will come in the mornings when you throw out bird seed. There is a garden area and side porches. Extra parking. Super great location for all things related to Volcano and the Volcano Winery is walking distance. Go for a tasting one afternoon - you won't regret it. We went back up to the outlook at the national park one night and got to see lava boiling and shooting up. It was amazing. Thank you for such a wonderful place to call home.

Beautiful, quaint cottage with every amenity one would need

Pukeawe Cottage is a wonderful find! We felt right at home and wished we could have stayed longer. The beautiful Kalij pheasants and doves and the perfect floral wonderland surrounding the house made it feel like we stepped into a fairytale. Fabulous!

Excellent holiday home

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our brief stay. The house was beautifully appointed. The setting

very relaxing - we enjoyed feeding the birds. The wood stove proved to be an excellent

addition as it was quite cold and we had a lot of rain. Anyone wishing to stay in the

Volcano area could not find a better base.

Very nice little place tucked into the forested area alongside the Volcano National Park.

  • 5 of 5

We had reserved the cottage assuming we had friends accompanying us, and they couldn't join us, so we had the whole big place to ourselves, although only used one bedroom and one set of towels. Kitchen extremely well stocked and nice to have some condiments and such in the refrigerator since we weren't sure where the store was located. Unfortunately only could stay one night but would recommend to anyone wanting to explore the volcano! One note - the only source of heat (that we could find) was the wood burning stove. When we awoke in the morning, it was only 52 in the place, so a bit chilly in our tropical clothing!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review of our property. So sorry you did not find the five portable space heaters that are located in the closets. I will try to remember to send a reminder to guests of that fact when I send out their access information. Sorry your friends were unable to join you. Hope you get to come again. Margaret
