Some comments from recent guests-
'i enjoyed my stay at 'hale sweet hale' very much.
the house is a well appointed two bedroom, nestled
in the jungle. the peace and solitude it offers are wonderful,
yet it's just minutes from the volcano. i especially enjoyed reading out on the back lanai looking out over the lawn to the jungle.
''There is no small detail you did not provide for. Thank you for sharing you idyllic hideaway. I especially enjoyed the orchids in the trees.'
“After a long trip halfway around the world, we could have had no better place to relax.
Everything was more than we could have hoped for. We were greeted with a warm welcome message and fresh supplies of everything we needed to feel right at home.
If you are in need of a true 'get away from it' without being too far away from creature comforts, this is the place to stay.”
'Hale Sweet Hale is truly a haven in the rainforest! Love the smell of the cedar, and the skylights make this place truly airy and bright.'
“It was so convenient for our visit to Kilauea National Park, being only 5 minutes from the entrance. We enjoyed the quiet and peaceful setting, surrounded by lush green ferns and lovely hydrangeas. It seemed so removed from everything, but it was just a short distance from the main highway. The cottage was so sweet and beautiful, and comfortable. We just loved it! We definitely would like to go back and stay for a longer period of time to experience more of this peaceful retreat.”

We fell in love with Hawaii 40 years ago and always wanted our own little piece of paradise. We found Hale Sweet Hale and made it our own. Always traveling in Hawaii, we discovered things and features that characterized "Living in Paradise" and included them in the house so all of our guests would leave with the Spirit of Aloha in their hearts.
Staying at Hale Sweet Hale or Aloha Sweet Hale captures paradise that is unforgettable and distinctively the best in Volcano Village.
“It was easy and a pleasure to stay at hale sweet hale. It was easy to get to the house & use it. The wee home met all of our expectations and more. The only thing disappointing... We decided to only stay for one night and not more. ”
The cool rain forest and glowing fireplace make this cabin in the woods a nice change from "typical" Hawaii. It was exactly the environment and the location we were seeking. It's very close to the National Park entrance and a short drive to restaurants and stores. It's what we expected and as described.
We were fortunate with volcanic activity in Halema'uma'u Crater and at the ocean entry. It was equal distance to the end of Chain-of-Craters Road and Highway 130 for viewing the ocean entry. We found it easiest to drive to the end of 130 and then rent bikes for the ride to the viewing area.
We didn't have any problems finding our way in or out using the directions provided.
The property was clean and well maintained. We did have to purchase our own kindling as that provided wasn't dry enough to burn well (a product of the environment).
If you are a late sleeper, or just want to relax in bed when the sun is you, you may find the sky lights annoying.
Even though I live on Maui, and even though I have been to Volcano on several other occasions, I have never had a more magical stay than the night we spent at this cabin home. Everything inside and out was so well thought out that NOTHING at all was missing or desired. We had comfort in every form, from the wonderful beds to the music player to the great shower head. There was fresh and delicious coffee, a delightful hot tub, beautiful lighting and the most magical fern and o'hia forest I have ever seen, and it was QUIET...... We slept so well, and were so comfortable in this delightful home that we even passed up going to see the lava flow at night....... but we are going to come back, and next time we will stay longer and explore more.
We had a great stay at Hale Sweet Hale. We will definitely recommend it to friends coming to the Big Island in the future.
We just returned from our Hawaii trip and our stay at Hale Sweet Hale was the highlight! Easy access to the Volcano National Park. The weather was refreshingly cool compared to steamy Hilo, but not too cold. The house is beautiful, very clean, very private and adequately stocked. We enjoyed the hot tub after a day out hiking and listening to a light rain while eating breakfast on the back porch. I was expecting lots of mosquitos, but I don’t think I felt one while in Volcano. Hale Sweet Hale was a perfect retreat to come home to after lots of exploring!
We couldn't have been more comfortable. The house was centrally located to everything we wanted to see and do in the area. It was beautifully furnished and we appreciated the special touch of coffee, creamers and condiments. We would have been happy to pick up the entire property and transport it back to our home in NH
Such a great cabin in a secluded location. We loved how close to the volcano we were.
Hot tub was amazing too! Thanks for everything!
By the way, we think the coffee maker is about to die.
Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is less than a mile away. Spend the day exploring all the unique sites of the park. Visit the Farmers' Market at Cooper Center- lots of local grown produce and handcrafted items. You can view turtles at Black Sands beach and hike out to Green Sands beach at South Point.
