About Claire

Owners Feelings

My parents bought this property on Lake Travis in the 1940’s. Cattle roamed the area and poked their heads into our camping tent. Soon after my Dad had a one room rock cabin built. It had a fireplace and surrounded with windows. Later he added a kitchen, bedroom and bath and a large covered front porch. An additional one room guest house was moved on to the property in the 50’s and we are in the process of remodeling it as the “Blue Bonnet Cottage” It will be a good overflow for the kids. It will sleep 4 and has a 1/2 bathroom. My brother and I inherited the Sunset Cabin in the 90’s and our families have enjoyed it all these years with kids and grandkids. We now rent it part of the time so others can have as much fun as we have had these many years.

Lovely Weekend Retreat

  • 4 of 5

We rented this quaint cabin for a ladies weekend. It is cute and relaxing. We were able to swim and enjoy the privacy. It is still close enough to everything to be able to go out for dinner and drinks. I would love to spend another weekend here in the future.

Lovely Cabin

  • 5 of 5

My family and I have stayed at the Sunset Cabin many times and love more and more each time. It is a lovely, down to earth retreat with a beautiful view of Lake Travis. The rock cabin is simple but very comfortable, the kitchen is well appointed and the bed is cozy. It is semi-secluded on the lake, so you feel like you are a million miles away from the hustle and bustle...but a major grocery store is just 10 minutes away. We spend most of our time sitting on the patio underneath the beautiful oak tree mesmerized by the beautiful water and lake vista, watching the boaters and jet skiers. Access to the lake is perfect, just down an easy staircase and you are on the shore to swim, skip rocks, collect fossils or of course, watch the sunset. It's an amazing value for the location, the cabin and the beautiful views.

Charming cabin on Lake Travis

  • 4 of 5

This was a perfect spot for a romantic and relaxing weekend getaway! Just what we needed to unwind from the daily grind in the city. The cabin is rustic but had everything we needed and was very clean. I loved that it had private steps down to the "beach" area where we placed our chairs and played in the water. We very much liked the large patio where we would sit and enjoy our coffee and grilling in the evenings. The owner is very kind and a pleasure to talk with prior to our arrival. Thanks for having us!

Had a GREAT time here. Perfect spot for some close up fourth of July fireworks, right on the water with a good spot to swim, great little house hidden away from the city.

Quiet waterfront retreat.

  • 5 of 5

Take the kids, take your friends, take your dog or boat. Retreat from the hustle and bustle, put down the iPad or phone and enjoy the quiet and relaxing lake front stone cabin. Staying at the sunset cabin was like taking a step back in time. My girlfriend and I absolutely loved our stay and we look forward to staying again in the future.

Favorite spot! Relaxing lake times with sunsets, tacos with nightlife - if I want it.

  • 5 of 5

My love for Lake Travis from College years and desire to dunk in it made me want to relive the leisure life of boating, swimming, longnecks, BBQ, dog frisbee and flip-flop sunburnt days. I was delighted to find this classic Austin Hill Country stone cabin perched on a point of Hudson Bend peninsula (a throwback in itself) with a direct access to the lake. Simplicity, lake proximiity and true Austin feel is the draw for me. The cabin seems hand-built with love. I revel in the rock walls, wood beamed ceilings and cross breezes blowing from the lake. Summers are cooler and winters with the fireplace is cozy. There is one bedroom accomodating two and sleeping options in the main room. A second cabin is just behind the first (great for kids or a second couple) that has a bathroom but not a kithchen (not needed here). The yard is large, green, tree shaded and perched for a panaramic lake view. There's a porch on the cottage front and sunsets rule here. Additionally there's a. larger veranda closer to the walled edge of the yard. The Veranda's centerpeice is a beautiful grand sized Texas Live oak. This space begs for BBQs, dining, a party or just sitting with a book! Cottage kitchen is complete and serves every need for cooking for two or larger groups. Carry-in meals are easy with many great options locally; restaurants, markets, lake dives and fine dining. Austin's an option as well. The cottage is perfect for familes with young kids - run abouts with barefeet in the green space and safe walks to the lake perfect shore for shore swimminig. Adults will find it romantic as well. It has the Austin retro feel without trying to hard - it's the real ting. This rental is not punched up with frilly pillow and designer decor and funrintiure. This is a good old fashioned spot for kicking your shos off, dipping in the lake, porch sleeping, BBQ'ing and a cold one in a worry free space. It's really quiet - you will hear boats buzz across the lake, but that is lake music. I was permitted to bring well behaved dogs -swimming together with my pups is rare opportunity. The cement porch and green grass kept them cool and happy to all day long. This is a real working lakehouse cottage - it is comfortable and built for making memories. It will take you back to the days of watermelon on the porch and a jump in the lake to clean off seeds. I return as often as possible and consider myself a lucky regular. Owners are easy to work with. As a matter of fact., I need to book.
