Your hosts, Kay and Glenn Dunn, want your stay at Pond Mountain Inn to be a memorable, enriching experience. Since assuming ownership of this quintessential Vermont bed and breakfast in October 2013, they have made thoughtful changes that retain the tradition and character of this exact replica of a 1800s Eyebrow Cape. These thoughtful improvements enable them to satisfy their guests’ highest standards and to confirm their commitment to extraordinary service and accommodations not normally found outside Dorset or Manchester.
Worldwide travelers for the past twenty years, Kay and Glenn have accumulated over five thousand night stays in hotels spread across five continents. This experience has informed their understanding of the attentive service and distinctive amenities that produce positive customer experiences. Thus, they are dedicated to offering their guests the same kind of service and experience they expect. It is their wish that every guest feels at home from the first moment of arrival to the (hopefully regretful) time of departure.
Glenn and Kay have been happily married for sixteen years, having met on a flight from Manila to Narita, Japan in August 1996. Kay was a Bangkok-based flight attendant for Northwest Airlines, and Glenn worked as an expatriate living in the Philippines. Three months after their first encounter, they held their first date at Shangri-La Hotel’s Cheval Blanc Restaurant in Manila. They married in Bangkok, Thailand in 1998 at Kay's family residence and again in New Jersey, United States in 2000.
Your hosts are honored that you have considered their bed and breakfast, and they are firmly committed to creating a relaxing, comfortable stay for you and your family. Their home is truly your home!
Kay or Glenn Dunn purchased this cottage in 2013
We wanted to return to New England and find a traditional antique reproduction home and property with expansive views. Our home rises from a country dirt-road nestled against lush Pond Mountain with dramatic neighboring views of Northeast Mountain – beyond the great lawn the property border to the north has visible remnants of a long-standing farmers stonewall that leads to our neighbor’s beautiful pond, expansive meadows and a distant antique farm house.
Our neighbors give us their Araucana or Ameraucana fresh bluish green eggs when available or we simply visit the local farm three miles from the property and pickup fresh milk, eggs and grass fed beef – just farther is where we buy our pure Vermont Maple Syrup. Still farther, we have available an abundance of organic meats, organic fruits & vegetables, artisan bread & cheeses. The experience is indescribable with unique offerings from each small town we visit. I almost expect to see Norman Rockwell standing next to me with his farmers’ basket of produce suitable for his next canvas.
The décor at Pond Mountain reflects a New England country style, from the nicely appointed living & dining rooms with original oil paintings and antiques in the Main House to the spacious comfort of the Loft Apartment Suite and Garden Cottage. Enjoy our generous accommodations and marvel at the soaring, uninterrupted views from inside. “We are deeply committed to delivering an unparalleled experience – breakfast and dinner is exquisite and we have spared no expense making your sleeping experience a dream come true.”
This is our second stay at Pond Mountain Inn. It already felt like we were going back to meet old friends. We rented the cottage for one week. It's really cozy, clean and comfortable with a fully equipped kitchen.
The nice part is that you get all the privacy you need and cook your own meals but still get to enjoy Kay's fabulous breakfasts at the Inn! They are varied, delicious and truthfully irresistible! Ask Kay for her exquisite french bread and bacon, my personal favorite!
There's plenty to see and to do in the area: We went swimming at Lake St-Catherine, hiking in Merck Forest, we took the gondola ride to the top of Stratton Mountain, visited Dorset, shopped in Manchester... But our favorite activity was to sit back in Adirondack chairs, relax and read a good book outside by the cottage (it's so quiet you may fall asleep before you finish your first chapter..)
The highlights of our vacation were to gaze at the shooting stars and spend time with our hosts! They are warm, friendly and authentic people who have many stories to share. It's not just a business for them, they truly love what they do and it shows!
Did we like it? We just can't wait to get back this fall (our 3rd time at the Inn) and try the Loft for the first time! The view up there is magnificent and with a little luck we'll enjoy the colorful splendor of fall leaves before we can wonder at the night sky while sipping a glass of wine with our hosts!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the apartment at the house. It was very comfortable and well- kept with an equipped kitchen, spacious dining room/living room, and nice bedroom and bathroom area. We had everything needed.
The B&B is tucked in between the mountains with great views. The property is large and it was great for our dog.
Kay and Glen were wonderful hosts. They were very friendly and went out of their way to make our stay perfect. They gave us recommendations for local shopping, dining, the farmers market.
The Wells General Store had yummy sandwiches, ice cream, and baked goods. The local farmer's market provided us with fresh veggies, meats, and cheeses. The Marble House in Dorsett had many interesting events including a cooking class which was fun. We also had a nice lunch in Vergennes. Burlington was two hours away and Ludlow, with the delicious Mojo's restaurant, was about one hour away.
We definitely recommend Pond Mountain Inn!
Glenn and Kay are the perfect hosts!!! My husband and I traveled to their Inn for a week with our 2 teenage daughters. We stayed in the 2 bedroom cottage which is super comfortable, clean and beautifully decorated. There was plenty of room for us to spread out and the wifi for our girls was a definite plus with teenagers. Kay and Glenn were so hospitable, we felt like friends in their home every morning and the breakfasts were to die for! Kay is an amazing cook!! I think we all gained a few pounds during our stay. If you're looking for a peaceful retreat, this is the place! We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely look to revisit! Thank you Glenn and Kay for a very memorable vacation!
We booked our reservations this year when we were there last summer--we were that certain we wanted to return. The PMI is a delightful, peaceful place to stay, especially for a couple seeking a quiet, beautiful setting. The hosts, Glenn and Kay, are warm and attentive, eager to make your stay a pleasant one. The breakfasts every morning were sumptuous and an evening dinner on the patio was delicious and delightful! The accommodations in the barn apartment are comfortable, spotless, and informally gracious. The kitchen is larger than ours at home and the open-style dining and living rooms are very attractive, with interesting artifacts and collectibles from around the globe. We spent the week walking roads, hiking trails, going to nearby Manchester and Dorset, and reading books in the shade on warm summer afternoons. We could easily live there year round! All in all, this is a heavenly escape for those needing a break from life.
My husband and I often stay at B&B when we travel but never have found one as wonderful as Pond Mountain Inn. Glenn and Kay Dunn are wonderful hosts. We have stayed in the small apartment type rooms over the garage twice now and plan on returning next year for the same week. Kay's Eggs Benedict are the best I have ever had. The place is clean and the grounds beautiful. Weather was not great this time so didn't get to sit on the beautiful deck and watch the Humming birds at the feeders but did enjoy the beautiful mountain view from the large front window. I think this would be a wonderful place to be "snowed in".
I stayed in the Loft Apartment with my husband and daughter. This was our first family vacation in Vermont, and we couldn't have picked a better place to stay. The only downside was having to leave when our week was up! The description of the property is accurate, and all the other reviews are correct when they say that the owners Glenn and Kay are wonderful and welcoming hosts.
Highlights of staying here (in no special order):
1. Breakfasts! Yummy! And they went out of their way to make sure my picky daughter had plenty of what she likes (sausage and fruit)
2. The view - spectacular mountain view from the picture window in the apartment.
3. The deck - the apartment has a lovely deck with a table and chairs that is in the back, so it is quiet and looks out over the yard and into the woods.
4. Chippy, the resident chipmunk. My daughter loved feeding him, he would even let her pet him while he took peanuts from her hand.
5. Tons of things to do! we went hiking, swimming, horseback riding, fishing, to the farmers market in Dorset, visited Hildene, shopped the outlets in Manchester, saw the monument in Bennington, zip-lining, and more!
6. The apartment - lovely! The pictures do show exactly what it looks like. Very warm and comfortable, nice large kitchen if you feel like cooking, quiet bedroom, even the pull-out was pretty comfortable. Quality linens are provided, and it was super clean. The newly refinished pine floors were amazing.
7. Glenn, Kay and the other renters - our hosts were great, they would talk with us each morning about our plans for the day, and provided helpful suggestions. We also got to meet the other people renting the cottage, and they also were friendly and had ideas of things to do.
I definitely recommend staying here. We have only been home a short time, and I am already trying to figure out when we could head up for a getaway in the fall or winter.
