Treat yourself to a true French Quarter experience! This lovely carriage house is surrounded by lush gardens, flowers, sculpture, a tiered fountain stocked with colorful fish - and is located on the property behind a stunning historic mansion, circa 1823. The charming carriage house offers an open living area with queen bed and a wonderfully comfortable leather sofa which opens to a double bed. There is one full bath, flat-screen TV, a small but well-equipped kitchen, and plenty of closets for your Mardi Gras costumes! Entrance from Royal Street to the garden and carriage house is separate from the main house.
The large patio is perfect for cocktails before your dinner or event - or just for relaxing between sightseeing and shopping. For cool evenings, there are gas heaters for the patio/gardens. An outdoor shower is fun in the warmer weather.
You will 'breathe in' the history of the French Quarter in this gorgeous setting. Royal Street is simply one of the loveliest streets - so close to the Mississippi River, Jackson Square, restaurants, shopping and jazz clubs. Bourbon Street is one block away - but in this secret garden setting, tranquility prevails!
The larger house is the former home of actors Delta Burke (Designing Women) and Gerald McRaney (Simon and Simon, Major Dad), decorated in a tasteful Tuscan style. It is also available (see VRBO property #348055), which is a 3 bedroom, 2 baths, sleeping 5 guests, for $575 per night.
And the second floor is also available with a 47foot gallery on Royal Street and is a 3 bedroom, 2 baths for $675 per night (see VRBO property #633488). Sleeps 6 guests.
This is a home, not a rental property, so we are looking for renters who can respect that. This is a true French Quarter experience! Please write or call if you have questions or would like to see more photographs. This charming home is perfect for the discriminating traveler.

My Husband and I stayed in the Carriage house on Royal Street during the last week of Mardi Gras. (Our first visit to NOLA). From the moment we arrived we knew we had made a fabulous choice. The location was perfection, walking distance to all the top galleries and fine dining, An easy walk to Cafe DuMonde and Jackson Square, and if you like, to Bourbon street. Even though we were only a block from Bourbon, it was quiet and felt safe. Its easy to get a pedi cab to the parades if you need one. The carriage house is small, but comfy, the big bed was filled with pillows to sink in and sleep like a baby after a day of exploring. Tiny kitchen was perfect for making morning coffee and late night snacks. Bathroom is tiny but has everything you need. You must love old houses and expect this vibe here,This isnt a cookie cutter hotel experience. The courtyard was beautiful filled with flowers and fruit trees. if you want to absorb the French Quarter atmosphere and true Southern Hospitality look no further, The owners were fabulous and invited us up to the main house to toss beads from the Gallery and have a cocktail. The Main house is amazing and filled with beautiful art and details. We hope to come back with our adult sons and rent the main house in the future. The big house second story would be a Honeymooners dream, large canopy bed and fabulous decor. We cant wait to come back!!!!
This review is for the small carriage house at the back of the property. I stayed recently with two other friends (three 40-50ish females total).
You couldn't ask for a better location in the Quarter. This end is notably quieter and calmer--but still an easy stroll to all the excitement. There's a grocery store (Rouse's) just a few blocks down the street, fun bars, good food nearby, and lots of higher end shopping and art galleries right outside your door. You are also easy walking distance to Frenchmen Street, where lots of good music happens and where the locals go.
From the moment we arrived we felt at home. Randell, the driver that was arranged for us, was a great welcome to the city. He gave us lots of ideas of what to do and even texted during our stay to check on us and let us know some of the happenings in other neighborhoods. Ina, the property manager, was so sweet and helpful getting us settled in. She got us anything we needed right away (she lives right across the street) and made sure we had everything we needed during our stay.
The carriage house is a small studio, but it was fine for the 3 of us ladies. There's a queen bed, comfy couch, small dining table, and a separate kitchen off the main room down a hallway. The kitchen is small with a mini fridge, but we managed to put together a couple of light meals and cocktails. While comfortable, the space could use some TLC. Yes, everything in New Orleans is old--and that's a large part of it's charm. But a fresh coat of paint, some fresh linens, and a new shower curtain would go a long way to make the space really shine.
The outdoor courtyard is a great bonus. It's well away from the street with a lovely fountain to enjoy. Overall, we had a great stay!
We recently rented this entire property for our wedding, and we stayed in the carriage house for the weekend. THIS is the way to stay in the French Quarter! The apartment is wonderful, with a kitchen and plenty of room, and having access to a beautiful private courtyard is amazing.
It's the perfect location from which to explore the French Quarter on foot. And at the end of the day, you have a private oasis for enjoying a cocktail. Beats a hotel any day! We visit New Orleans often, but this was a truly special experience. We can't wait to visit this property again!
We very much enjoyed our stay at the carriage house. The location is perfect for anything you would like to do. Every thing you need is within walking distance. Royal Street is great for shopping and browsing. The cottage it self was very comfortable. The courtyard was very pleasant.
This property was right in the French Quarter - walking distance to many venues. Terrific
places to eat, etc. However, it was really not as advertised. The downstairs had only one
legitimate bedroom right off the living room with no door in working condition to close it off. The access to a bathroom for that bedroom was through the living and dining room out
to the hallway to a bathroom. The other "bedrooms" were a couch that pulled out to a bed that led into a hallway which held a single bed which led to a bath????Nowhere but New Orleans would that be considered anything but a tv room!
Vanilla...it's not! We rented the main house and carriage house while we were in New Orleans for a convention and boy were we delighted. We felt we got the quintessential New Orleans experience. Royal Street is one of the best streets to stay on with all of the galleries, shops, street performers, etc. You feel like you're in the action but not "IN" the action like on Bourbon Street. The house décor is big on personality. Vibrant colors, one-of-a-kind furnishings and beautiful artwork abound. The high ceilings make for a spacious grandiose feeling and the gorgeous mahogany bar greets you when you first walk through the door with all of the southern hospitality you'd expect from New Orleans. We'll be back for sure.
While you are enjoying your stay in this gorgeous, historic French Quarter property, you are just steps from dozens of world-class restaurants, jazz clubs, historic sites, and modern attractions! Your days will be filled - luckily you can accomplish anything you missed on your NEXT visit! New Orleans has seemingly endless treats to offer, all year-round.
