About Dick and Bonnie Miller

Bonnie's grandparents homesteaded the ranch in 1908. It has remained in the family for over a hundred years and still operates as a cattle ranch. Bonnie and I returned to the Black Hills from Denver in the late 90's and decided that this is where we want to stay. We look forward to sharing this beautiful spot in the Hills and making new friends as we do so.

Dick and Bonnie Miller purchased this house in 2010

Exactly as it was described

  • 5 of 5

I have been waiting for 10+ years to get to South Dakota with my dad and family. The ranch was so accommodating with everything we needed. Enough space for us all to spread out and enjoy our time. The views were magnificent!! We will never be able to thank the owners enough for their hospitality! It was so nice being able to come back to a house to relax with the kids after a full day of exploring. I will recommend this place for years to come!! We were so blessed with being able to secure this place and look forward to going back!!

The Perfect House for our Big Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5

We had 12 people in our group (7 adults and 5 children), and this vacation house was better than I could have imagined. We had family flying in from California as we were driving in from Wisconsin. We arrived in the afternoon and Bonnie was there to greet us and help us get situated. She came back later as the other part of our group arrived in the evening. The house was fully equipped with plenty of space for all of us. This house served not only as a great launching point to Keystone, Custer State Park, Rapid City and Mount Rushmore, but it was a great home to return to at the end of a day. Every evening the kids were in the backyard running around and throwing a frisbee. I took morning walks on their 1 mile driveway and around the property. What a great way to start the morning! Big skies, wild life and incredible views! My wife and I took walks in the evening too. On more than one occasion, we ran into Bonnie and she took time to chat with us. She even let us know about an event going on in downtown Rapid City that we had not known about and later decided to check out. Very helpful. I really can not say enough about this property. I have stayed at vacation homes before, but they are usually simple, older properties. Bonnie's was well maintained, offered newer appliances and was beautifully decorated throughout. And gorgeous hard wood floors! It really felt like home. Plus being able to watch Wimbledon Tennis on the big screen TV first thing in the morning was fun too. If you're planning a visit to the western part of South Dakota, then this is the property for you. Whether you are a large group like us or just a few people, you will be beyond impressed.

Family vacation

  • 5 of 5

Can't imagine a better place for our family of 5. The house was new and clean and more than enough room. Dick and Bonnie were next door and helpful if we needed anything. We spent the last day on the property instead of site seeing as our kids (and we) just wanted to enjoy to openess of the farm and slow things down a little. My kids loved playing in the field and on the hay bales. We all enjoyed the ATV tour of the cattle and the property that Dick and Bonnie so nicely offered. I enjoyed learning about the ranch and it's history. We spent a lot of time on the back porch taking in the sites by day and the stars at night (we could even see satellites orbiting). If we lived close, we would be back in a heartbeat.

Amazing!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 7 adults and 5 kids just returned home after our stay at BAR A Vacation Home and we can't stop talking about the wonderful time we had.

The house was immaculate and so nicely decorated and over the top comfortable. The kitchen was stocked better than my own kitchen in my home! Absolutely anything you might need could be found in a drawer or the cupboards. That allowed us to fix hearty breakfasts and home cooked meals throughout our stay which was just what we hoped to be able to do.

From the moment we drove down the lane, crested the top of 'the hill' and wound our way to the property we were smitten. It was just what our family needed on our getaway vacation. Dick and Bonnie, the owners, are some of the nicest folks you will ever meet. They were able to answer all our questions about the sites in and near the black hills. The passes for Custer State Park were so much appreciated and were a 'perk' they provided. Top notch folks!

If you like peaceful, quiet mornings and big sky at night, this is the place for you. We absolutely would go back in a heartbeat!

Lovely Stay

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely stay at the vacation home near Custer. The scenery was beautiful, the home was well kept, and had everything we needed. It was very comfortable to sleep 8 adults and 2 children. The home was decorated beautifully, and was incredibly clean! The hosts were super accommodating, friendly, and took really good care of us. I can't say enough great things about this home on the behalf of my family! Great stay!

Peace & Quiet & wide open spaces

  • 5 of 5

My extended family gathered here for a wedding in Hermosa. We all grew up in the area, but our ranch & big ranch house is no longer in the family. This felt like coming home. A breathtaking location, with quiet time to enjoy the birds, crickets, cows, hawks, take a hike, really you name it. It was a wonderful space to gather for meals, card games & even some barefooted 3 year old running around outside time! We will come back.

Bonnie was extremely friendly & gracious.

I was reluctant to leave....
