About Dick and Bonnie Miller

Bonnie's grandparents homesteaded the ranch in 1908. It has remained in the family for over a hundred years and still operates as a cattle ranch. Bonnie and I returned to the Black Hills from Denver in the late 90's and decided that this is where we want to stay. We look forward to sharing this beautiful spot in the Hills and making new friends as we do so.

Dick and Bonnie Miller purchased this house in 2010

Peace & Quiet & wide open spaces

  • 5 of 5

My extended family gathered here for a wedding in Hermosa. We all grew up in the area, but our ranch & big ranch house is no longer in the family. This felt like coming home. A breathtaking location, with quiet time to enjoy the birds, crickets, cows, hawks, take a hike, really you name it. It was a wonderful space to gather for meals, card games & even some barefooted 3 year old running around outside time! We will come back.

Bonnie was extremely friendly & gracious.

I was reluctant to leave....

Just Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful house for gathering with family who traveled from all over for our daughter's wedding which was at the State Game Lodge in Custer State Park. Very convenient to the State Game Lodge. We didn't have to deal with the traffic through the park that guests who stayed in Custer had to deal with. The Custer State Park passes were a great bonus. Beautiful property, very comfortable home, and welcoming hospitality from Bonnie and her family. We highly recommend.

I can't say enough good things about this rental and Bonnie, the owner. Eight of us (2 families) stayed in this beautiful, spacious, centrally located home for a week while we toured the Badlands, Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Custer, Bear Country, Mammoth Site, Wind Caves and more.

Leading up to our trip, I must have emailed Bonnie 4-5 times or more with questions and advice on our travels. She was like our personal tour guide and was available when we arrived and throughout our stay if we had any questions, needed directions, etc. She would leave pamphlets on our door of events going on that week in case we were interested.

The house was amazing and the perfect size for our two families. The kitchen was fully stocked with everything we needed. We cooked and ate almost every meal there with great convenience and comfort. The surroundings of this house was beautiful, hilly and green and just a short drive into Custer. It really was perfect -- I have no complaints.

great week in the Hills

  • 5 of 5

We just got back from spending a week at the Bar A rental home. We had three families (11 people) join together from Wisconsin, southwestern MN and Minneapolis. The house was great: large rooms, well stocked kitchen. The bedroom with the bunk beds was great for the oldest grandchildren. Bonnie and Dick were gracious hosts. Bonnie's jam and the Custer State Park passes were a great bonus. The house was close to many of the Black Hills attractions. We agree with all the reviews, and would recommend this home to anyone.

5+ Rating, It Was Perfect

  • 5 of 5

I am in a wheelchair so I spent plenty of time looking for an accessible home to rent. Our family stayed at Bonnie and Dick's house for 5 nights in June. There were 6 adults and 4 kids ages 9,8,7 and 6. It is the perfect place to rent, very wheelchair friendly, large spacious living areas, beautifully decorated home, and well stocked with supplies. The bunk room was great for the kids they all could be together yet have their own beds to sleep in. A large deck to sit out and relax watching the deer and bunnies after a long day of sight seeing in the Black Hills. We loved everything about this place especially Bonnie and Dick who were the most gracious hosts. I read all the reviews for Dick and Bonnie's place before booking and found it hard to believe that everyone gave it a 5 rating, but they were all right! If I could I would rate this over 5+ because it was PERFECT! When we go back to South Dakota we hope to rent from them again.

Great location for all Black Hills activities. Quiet, amazing stars, comfortable house. Bonnie and Dick were like old friends who were sharing their world with us. Nothing but the best to say about the surroundings. Be sure to see the lighting ceremony at Mt. Rushmore. Enjoyed everything about the house and location and the area.
