As we look forward to sunny days at the beach, and taking in deep breaths of Maine salt air, we invite you to include a stay at Bayberry Cottage in your vacation plans. Ferry Beach State Park and Bayview Ave are located near our cottage.
Bayberry was our grandmother’s “cottage by the sea”. Each room is decorated with antiques and furniture reminiscent of a by-gone era.
The cottage offers a large living room, two bedrooms, one with a double bed, one with a queen size bed, a sleeping porch with two twin beds, a screened sun-porch, bath with shower, and a fully furnished kitchen including pots, pans, dishes, toaster, coffeepot, microwave and other amenities.
We furnish blankets and pillows. Linen rentals are available through Cottage Linens or you can bring you own.
Games, puzzles, and a very nice library, in addition to the TV/DVD player, provide indoor entertainment on rare rainy days. Beach toys and chairs, a picnic table and outdoor grill make for relaxing afternoons by the sea and fun family cookouts.
Located in the heart of Ferry Beach, nestled into Saco Bay, Bayberry Cottage is flanked by beach grass, sand dunes, and ocean on one side, and hidden ponds, hiking, biking and nature trails, and seclusion in the tall pines of Ferry Beach State Park on the other.
The cottage is 200 feet from a private sandy beach described as a “grand strand,” and available to all cottage renters. Look out onto the same ocean as Winslow Homer did, as he painted Wood Island Light at his studio on Prouts Neck.
An easy walk down the beach, one can see lobster boats return with their catch of the day to the pier in Camp Ellis, a small Maine fishing village at the mouth of the Saco River. Fishing for “stripers” is off the Camp Ellis jetty or by boat rental. Family style seafood restaurants, a general store and lobster pound are also close, as well as summer activities in nearby Ocean Park.
Bayberry Cottage is less than two hours north of Boston, and only minutes from the Portland jetport. Plan a visit to Portland’s world-class art museum, and many charming galleries and shops, or a ferry ride over to Peaks Island for ice cream.
The Maine Welcome Center is just off the Maine Turnpike, at the end of the York exit. In addition to what we have provided, brochures and information is available there for a wide variety of activities throughout the York County coastal area.
Keywords: Cottage of a bygone era, convenient to Portland jetport, summer theaters, and lighthouses.
Idyllic, nearby fishing village, dunes, pines and nature trails.
We love to travel and Maine is a favorite destination.

This was my grandmother's cottage by the sea. It is not fancy, rather it is a reminder of a time when there was a slower pace to life. This is an opportunity to take time to read, to talk, to walk on the beach. It is a perfect place for time for quiet reflection, to write a letter or a book.
Summer evenings you can walk to the corner ice cream store for locally made ice cream. This is followed by a walk on the beach and quickly became a tradition in our family.
Our vacation would have been perfect if not for the fact my car broke down and cost me a bit to get it fixed. Otherwise the cottage was perfect plenty roomy, close to the beach and very peaceful. I had my 2 grandsons 6 and 8 their where numerous toys at the cottage to keep them busy, everything was on hand in case we forgot anything it was there, we did replace what we used though at the end of the trip.
I can not elaborate enough as to how comfortable the cottage was ,the neighbors and the owner are very nice people. We hope to rent again next year, i have always gone to York but wanted something differant this year and i have to say i chose a great spot all of us talked about it when we got home as to how comfy and cozy the cottage was and how roomy so as no-one was on top of each other all had room to spread out. Thanks again we had a great time.
I have gone here for several years, late in the season. It is relaxing and convenient to Portland and other places if you need more excitement. The cottage has everything you would need to stay close during your visit -- you can cook, read, play games with the items in the cottage. Owners/caretakers are available but not hovering -- so you can really feel like it's your little cottage during your visit. I will return here many many more times.
Located in the heart of Ferry Beach, Bayberry Cottage is 200 feet from a private sandy beach described as a 'grand strand.' Nestled into Saco Bay, near the fishing village of Camp Ellis, Bayberry Cottage is a quiet oasis in a busy world. Nature trails at Ferry Beach State Park provide hidden ponds, hiking trails, and bird watching among the tall pines.
You can look out onto the same ocean as Winslow Homer did, as he painted Wood Island Light at his studio on Prouts Neck.
Ferry Beach Park Association, a Unitarian Universalist camp and conference center, is our neighbor and offers summer programs for all ages. Children stop at the ice cream stand for their 'teenie tinyies' on the way home from a day at the beach.
Fishing for sea bass with an expert guide is available with Saco Bay Stripers, departing from Camp Ellis. At the pier you can watch lobster boats returning with their catch of the day and see kayakers go up and down the Saco River.
We invite you to enjoy sunny days at the beach as you take in deep breaths of Maine salt air.
