Overview

New York Farmhouse Rental Photos and Description

Luxury inside, Rugged Adirondacks Outside. 3 bedrooms, 3 baths

1800's renovated Farmhouse with Stunning Views overlooking Lake Algonquin and Adirondack Mountains.

This is a great area to find some peace and quiet, and the perfect home for those who are particular. Great for adventurers and couch potatoes alike! Year round rugged Adirondack enjoyment can be found outside, while luxury, beautiful lake and mountain views with modern comforts can be found inside.

SPRING, SUMMER and FALL

During the warmer seasons our favorite activities include the 3 mile walk around the lake, hikes to nearby waterfalls, swimming, paddle boarding and kayaking out front. The large front lawn is a great spot to relax in the adirondack chairs while drinking in the view, barbecuing up dinner or lounging around the campfire. Public fishing dock out front. Swimming is easy access, but It is a bit rocky, bring water shoes, or public sand beach is one mile away. 2 kayaks, one stand up paddle board and lake floats provided!

Open floor plan has an amazing "chefs" kitchen, sitting area with fireplace, dining and a second living area with 40" flat screen for watching Netflix movies. We have no cable here, we come here to get away from the news!

Upstairs is the Master bedroom with cathedral ceilings, queen bed, private bath and great lake views. Two guest bedrooms have one double bed each and use of 1/2 bath upstairs, another full bath downstairs.

The house is kept in as close to perfect condition as we can manage. We remove shoes prior to going inside - and prefer our guests do as well. However, we know this is asking a lot, so please be mindful of bringing dirt, snow and mud onto our antique wood floors.

Kitchen - our favorite room! Beautiful lake views, fireplace and dining table, so the cook can converse with everyone. Double farmhouse sink, 5 burner gas stove, dishwasher, expansive wood counter space. Very nice pots, pans, dishes, glassware, spices and other amenities provided.

We do go out of our way to supply amenities that will make our guests stay a little easier and nicer, such as binoculars, table cloths, iron and board, kayaks, paddle board, snowshoes, bikes, paper towels, tin foil, plastic wrap, napkins, sugar, spices, condiments - lots of little things you would find at home but may not think of bringing while traveling. We also share detailed directions on how to get to some amazing local spots, waterfalls and places that you might not find otherwise - some took us years to find!

In order to keep this 200 year old Farmhouse in it's current immaculate condition, and it's plumbing in working condition, we cannot have more than 4 persons here in summer, 6 persons other times of year. We do not rent for parties or family reunions, sorry! This is a great house for couples or small family getaways, but not appropriate if you are planning to entertain.

The yard out front is where we spend our time, overlooking the lake and mountains beyond. There is a local road between us and the lake, but we are above it and it is somewhat obscured. We have four Adirondack chairs for lounging and enjoying the view. Large picnic table, fire pit and large Weber grill.

This is lake country so drives to the different lakes can be fun. Great antiquing and white water rafting up this way.

FALL FOLIAGE is AMAZING from the farmhouse! We have unobstructed views of color filled mountains, doubled by the reflection of these mountains on the lake, really is a sight to see!

WINTER

Winter is magical here! Cozy and warm inside, great sporting opportunities right out your front door. Snowshoe or cross country ski across the lake or on one of the many trails through the snow covered woods. Lapland Lake is a world class cross country resort with reindeer and authentic Finnish food. Downhill ski at family friendly Oak Mt. just a 15 minute drive, or much larger Gore which is 35 minutes away. Ice fishing, snowmobiling, and of course winter hiking to our local waterfalls are other favorite activities.

Speculator (next town over) rents snowmobiles, you can sled from here to Canada on wide expanse of groomed trails - this is amazing snowmobile country. Guided tours available for those trying it for the first time. Give it a shot - experiencing the Adirondack woods in winter, gliding over lakes, stopping in at different Pubs for a pint and a stew can be great fun. Highly recommended.

MORE ABOUT THE FARMHOUSE

This is one of the oldest homes in town - was a working farm for 100+ years. Fully renovated 2010. Sits on elevated 3/4 acre overlooking Lake Algonquin. Truly gorgeous view.

Porch - there is a large porch on the backside of house. Can read out there or store your skiis and toys. There is a sitting area to remove and store shoes so if you would like to be shoe free in house, as we are, it is convenient.

What might you NOT love? RECYCLES - are a real hassle here. Guests must agree to take them home if you brought a lot. Leaving a few is fine, but you must agree to follow the towns strict recycle rules - they must be kept clean and separate from garbage. We (i.e. the housekeeper) then have to take them to the dump and separate them into bins by hand. We simply cannot handle this task if large amounts are left. So - our general rule here is, if you bring a lot in, you must agree to take them out! Leaving small amounts (less than one bag full) are fine, and will be hauled to dump by our fabulous housekeeper.

No smoking, no pets (no exceptions, sorry!) and no candles please, this is an allergy sensitive home.

Watercraft is available for use May-Oct. Holidays rates may be higher with longer minimum stays, please inquire.

PAYMENTS: 50% to reserve, 50% due 35 days prior to arrival, payment by check or cc (plus 3.5%). We accept HomeAway payments for last minute reservations only (within a month of arrival). Please note that HomeAway does charge a fee to guests (and to us) for HomeAway payments.

About Maura

Maura is a lifelong Adirondacker, her family has been vacationing in Wells for 4 generations. David and Maura spend lots of time here in all seasons, and have fallen in love with renovating houses here. We now have 4 lakeside renovated homes, plus the original family camp, all available for weekly rental.

Maura purchased this farmhouse in 2009

Why Maura chose New York

Stunning Views, Luxury Inside, Rugged Adirondacks Outside

What makes this farmhouse unique

We love the fact that this house used to be the scariest one in town....but we always thought it must have the best view...and we were right! Since we gut renovated in 2010, it now has all the comforts of a modern luxury year round home combined with reclaimed wood floors with antique furnishings and features...and was redesigned to best capture those views! Amenities include kayaks, bikes, stand up paddle board, snowshoes, Weber Grill, Firepit, picnic table. Fishing pier across the street. Wireless Internet, 40' flat screen, iPod Player, Chefs Kitchen with killer views while cooking! Great master queen bedroom with views as well.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Thanks so much for sharing your lovely Farmhouse. We cooked up a storm in the great kitchen next to the fire. Some much desired snowfall came along so we snowshoed up Mt. Sawyer to some awesome views. Thanks for providing them!

We would love to come back to see the area in different seasons.

Lovely stay in complete tranquility

  • 5 of 5

This house is something else!! Beautifully furnished, exceptionally well maintained and immaculately cleaned! The view of the lake was breathtaking. The kitchen had everything you could possibly need (although we never did get those farm fresh eggs that other reviews bragged about ; ) )

The only thing that was somewhat annoying was the policy on recycling. That is the town's issue though- not our landlords fault. We were so nervous to not mess it up that we took our recyclables back to NYC with us!! LOL

Again- the house was lovely- the linens and the master bed were so comfy! Moira was great to work with- it snowed the day we left and she even offered a late check out to help us out! So nice and thoughtful. Will definitely return! Maybe even this summer :)

Beautifully updated lakeside farmhouse

  • 5 of 5

The details in the owners' thorough description are completely accurate. You will enjoy the artfully decorated and updated interior of this 1800's farmhouse with an unmatched view of Lake Algonquin and the ridge beyond. The property is scrupulously clean and well maintained. The owners have taken pains to supply guests with a comprehensive guide to the area including things to do, places to eat and sights to see. Supplied kayaks and bikes also make it easy for guests to enjoy the outdoors. Along with kayaking and hiking, we particularly enjoyed the Adirondack Museum in Blue Mountain Lake, about 30-40 minutes north. We also loved the huge selection of books in the farmhouse. Some mornings it was tough to tear ourselves away! The owners have other properties in the area that might be of interest to those looking at the area. They all share the owners' thoughtful approach to vacation rentals and should be checked out. We enjoyed our stay and heartily recommend this rental.

Charming and peaceful

  • 5 of 5

Awesome family vacation~We loved out stay at the Farmhouse. Meticulously clean, the spacious well stocked kitchen was perfect for preparing meals which we ate outside as we watched the activity on the lake. The house is well stocked with books, games, and movies. Maura is very attentive and certainly detailed oriented. We found her directions and suggestions extremely helpful. Will definitely be back!

Loved it!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here right before 4th of July in 2010 and we loved every moment and were inspired to create owning our own lakeside home. The view of the lake is enchanting. The home is welcoming and well decorated. We loved the wide plank wood floors. There is a guy in the town who makes decorative items out of wood. We bought a 30" row boat to celebrate our 5th anniversary.

If you have a small child the wooden stairs might be a concern. There is a small road to cross to get to the lake, but it is not heavily traveled. There was a wasp nest, but the owners quickly had it removed. It's fun to watch the red squirrels run around. We enjoyed biking, as well as swimming and kayaking. There is a small beach that's nice for kids at the end of the lake. We visited nearby Lake Pleasant two times and rented a boat there.

Beautiful home, beautiful peaceful setting

  • 5 of 5

We did indeed really enjoy our stay. The farmhouse is impeccably decorated and modern while keeping its' farmhouse appeal! The setting was so private and yet we were able to watch the fishermen and take fun walks. There is a big firepit which we sat around while watching the starshow. Our only regret was not using the bikes.

The kitchen was well stocked, the couches and bed were comfortable, and the view was just beautiful. We had great weather and went kayaking for fours hours around the lake - so peaceful!

We also liked the binder that Maura put together of fun things to do and nearby restaurants. We had great dinners at the Melody Inn and the Inn at Speculator.

So glad, Maura, you suggested we stay at your beautiful home. What a great way to spend our anniversary!

We are definitely looking into renting one of Maura and Davids' properties for a Fall weekend.
