We are a husband-and-wife art/design team who work in studios on the property adjacent to the vacation rental; we'll be happy to show you work in progress if time allows.... Scott is an accomplished woodworker and Ene is an avid organic gardener. Ask us about our favorite cycling and hiking routes, wine country day trips, and the many unique nurseries and farms to visit in the region...
We were struck by the friendly, open quality of the West Sonoma County community - avid winemakers and chefs are friends with surfers, ranchers and organic farmers...At night, the quiet, dark sky is filled with stars, a true luxury. Landscape painters and nature photographers seek out this unique landscape for its natural beauty; come visit and you'll understand why.
West Sonoma County is the undiscovered Wine Country....we love the rolling hills and unspoiled countryside dotted with farms, the redwood forests and Russian River - perfect for cycling and hiking, and all only 10 minutes from Pacific Coast Beaches. Doran Beach, 10 minutes away, is dog friendly and sought out by bird watchers and surfers alike. Osmosis Spa, just down the hill in the village of Freestone, has a beautiful Japanese Garden along with relaxing spa treatments; afterward, stop at Freestone Bakery for fresh-baked wood-fired organic bread. We love sharing our favorite bicycle routes, organic farm tours, and, of course, restaurants and wineries that abound here.
My boyfriend and I have stayed at Wowhaus twice and can not get enough of it. From the moment we arrived, we've felt completely relaxed. The setting - open orchards (where we picnicked) and redwood forest - is beautiful. The art and furnishings are cool, modern and calming, and the owners are GREAT, very helpful and knowledgeable about what to do in the area (we've become friends, and made dinner for them at the cabin during our second visit). It rained during part of our first visit, and we were so happy to be hanging out by the fire, feeling like we wanted to be nowhere but our cozy home. The second visit we did a lot of hanging out by the fire, too, but we also went out and explored. There's a TON of stuff to do in the area: amazing bakeries, wineries, hiking, the beach, the river, and lots of little towns to discover. Wowhaus is really wonderful. It's close to so much, but like us, you may never want to leave!
Wonderful location, great hosts, very comfortable with everything you need. Actually more spacious than it appears in pictures. Plan to return!
Staying at this little guest house was more like being a personal guest of the owners! We stayed 3 nights for a wedding at a nearby ranch. Ene went out of her way to accommodate our little family. She even moved a small mattress into the bedroom for our 11 year old daughter who wanted to sleep near us and had it completely made up upon arrival. She offered to help with laundry, invited my daughter to garden with her, tour the ranch and let her feed the chickens. The house is lovely with great style. Private and beautiful little outdoor area for having meals al fresco. Very peaceful and lovely setting. Only wish we could have stayed longer and explored the beautiful area. Thank you!
Loved our stay in this cozy, comfortable, and quiet location with a beautiful redwood grove right outside our door. Great dining options both casual and fine dining (in a casual atmosphere) close by. We were able to tour a number of wineries in both Sonoma and Napa. Owners were so friendly and very helpful before our visit and as we planned our activities once we arrived. Can't wait to visit our "California family" again.
We enjoyed a 6 night visit here in the middle section of our three week honeymoon. We arrived here after spending a week bouncing all over San Francisco and the surrounding areas, looking forward to some relaxation. The location was a perfect spot, just minutes from the adorable town of Sebastapol, as well as several coastal destinations.
From the moment we arrived at the Wowhaus, we felt completely relaxed and at home. We were very impressed with the beautiful design of this peaceful setting, abundant natural light, and the attention to many small details that made our stay extra special. The kitchen greeted us with a bowl of fresh eggs from the owner's chickens, a french press for coffee and a kitchen that was perfectly appointed for all of our meals and snacks. The living room had lots of great books and reading materials, information about local events and destinations, and the bedroom had the best bed ever, with beautiful, comfortable bedding and handmade touches like original artwork and tree stump end tables.
If all of this were not enough, the owners of the cottage, who live on the same property, were absolutely charming and hosted us for a delicious outdoor dinner with their awesome daughter and adorable dog. We will absolutely return to this place (next time, with our daughter) to relive this magical experience.
My husband and I stayed here for a month to escape February in New England. We drove cross country with our two corgis and ended up feeling right at home here. The house has more than enough space for a couple and some canine companions, and even with working artists in residence on the property the rental felt perfectly private. It's near many wonderful places to play - wineries, a bike/hike rail trail, the coastal beaches, rivers for canoeing or kayaking, a zip line, farmers markets, etc - and great eateries, including restaurants of Sebastopol, Occidental, and Graton, plus the best bread ever at the Wildflour Bakery in Freestone. So much to do here that we didn't even get to all of it in a month! So we decided to buy our own place in Sonoma, and will be happy to count Ene & Scott among our new community of friends. (Do stop in and see their studios, they work in various media.) What's especially nice here is the peace and quiet and the lush property, which is alive with birds at all times. We made good se of the wood burn stove, too, as evenings get quite chilly!
Close to renowned wineries, gourmet restaurants featuring local produce and wines, vibrant organic farms offering tours and tastings, hiking trails with sweeping views of the Pacific, backcountry lanes offer world-class cycling,Historic Fort Ross, Occidental village Farmer's Market. Discover a surprising array of vintage clothing and antique stores as well as some of the best specialty nurseries in California...
