I manage this historic family home for my Kenney Family. I am an author and publisher who wrote a book based on my grandfather's life. He visited this family cottage during the the mid-1900's and chose Oak Bluffs as his summer home. Much of the research material for the book was discovered underneath the house in the storm cellar...it had been there for decades and was in a state of ruin when it was found just in time!
The Owner purchased this cottage in 1913
This cottage has been in the Kenney family since 1913. Historically it has been the family vacation home for several generations.
The private but central location is one of the most gratifying benefits. You will not need a car to get around Oak Bluffs and the bus route to Edgartown, Vineyard Haven, Chilmark or Gay Head is a few minutes away...or explore the island on your bicycle or motor bikes.
One of the one reviewers said that she wasn't sure if she should write a review because it would let others in on this beautiful secret. I agree. From the moment we walked in the door door this house felt like a home away from home. The decor is lovely. The bedrooms are cozy and comfortable. The kitchen area is updated and well stocked for every cooking need. The outside area, including the pergola, outdoor shower and water feature are outstanding features of the property. The location provided us an opportunity to easily get to town and the beach, as well as spend some time at Sunset Lake watching the stars. It was a pleasure to work with both the owner and the caretaker. The caretaker went out of her way to make sure our needs were met at arrival and upon leaving. I could go on and on about this place but let it suffice to say we were all so pleased with the stay that it will definitely be on the repeat list for future vacations.
My family, friends and I had the pleasure of vacationing and celebrating my birthday at this beautiful historic home during the first week of August 2015. We loved every aspect of this charming home, that took us back in time and era, and allowed us to escape, appreciate and enjoy the serenity and tranquility that Martha’s Vineyard, Oak Bluffs and the Kenney Kottage has to offer.
We were welcomed by the sheer beauty of the home’s architectural features, and amenities- from the lovely landscaping, inviting and relaxing wrap around front porch, to the amazing backyard entertainment area, complete with a waterfall feature and invigorating outdoor shower! The details, warmth and beauty of this property are endless and added to our overall fabulous experience.
It is obvious that this home is well loved, regularly maintained and cared for. The owners have thought of everything! The renovations are outstanding and up to date, without taking away from the characteristics and uniqueness that a 100-year home offers. All of upgrades and decor are thoughtful, tastefully done and a big plus! I loved the huge pink hydrangeas, claw foot tub, bead boards and hardwood floors. We found Kenney Kottage to be immaculate, cozy, elegant, well stocked, very comfortable and super welcoming! The home easily accommodated our multi-generational family and provided an overall great atmosphere for entertaining and relaxing day or night. In addition, the home is ideally and conveniently located on a quiet and peaceful street, amid lots of trees, lush greenery, flowers, and other charming and unique homes. This tranquil setting is a hidden gem, because it is far enough away from the heartbeat of Oak Bluffs to avoid the noise and congestion, but close enough to enjoy everything. No need for a car, because a lovely, scenic ten minute walk or bike ride will get you to the hub of all that Oak Bluffs has to offer-including, but not limited to the ferry, bus lines, Circuit Avenue, with its quaint shops, and wonderful restaurants and eateries, as well as the harbor, waterfronts, and the beach.
Finally, the owners of Kenney Kottage impressed me. They are awesome and were wonderful and easy to work with. They were very responsive and communicated well and often. We appreciated the helpful home and island hints and found them informative and useful. Thank you for sharing your piece of paradise with us, we look forward to returning!
We had a wonderful week-long stay in this ample and yet cosy cottage in walking distance of Oak Bluffs' historical gingerbread houses and commercial district. Set in a small enclave of tree-lined and flowered non-paved streets, we felt transported to sweet, mellow by-gone days and yet were so close to all of Oak Bluffs zesty distractions. A plus when you are travelling with teens. The upper bedrooms are small but nicely appointed and comfy, the kitchen is ample and very well equipped. Great washer/dryer and outside shower but the main draw here are the outside spaces: the canopied terrace out back and, my favorite, the front porch. Mornings and cocktail hour were incredibly relaxing there... We were told by a nice neighbor that the owners upgrade the house every year and the results show. Bravo ! If I may venture a suggestion for future upgrades: it would be nice to make the interiors more allergy-free by removing carpets and feathered upholstery which do not fare well in a humid sea-side environment. This is not a critique, because the house is lovely. Just a thought... Thank you for sharing your historical cottage with the rest of us, city dwellers from the mainland !
We've recently returned from another stay at Kenney Kottage and enjoyed it as much as ever. Perfect location, excellent amenities.
We've recently returned from our third stay at the Kottage. Really appreciated all the improvements in the kitchen, living room, and outdoors: it's always been just fine, but the new cabinets, furniture, and other things make it that much nicer. Perfect location--walkable to everything in Oak Bluffs so you can avoid the traffic jams and my daughter and I even jogged over to Vineyard Haven, an easy run from the Kottage. Gretchen, the property manager is just across the street and is very helpful & available. Oh, and perfect weather, too!
Had a fantastic stay on the Vineyard. House conveniently located to Oak Bluffs harbor and town. Very comfortable, loved the outdoor seating area. Had several large get togethers. Gretchen was a fantastic property manager, easily accessible, friendly, and helpful.
Given the entertaining I like to do, I would get rid of the kitchen table or at least replace with smaller one. Not enough room to move around kitchen.
Eating out in OB; My favorite places are Chowder CO. and the Red Cat at Kennebec.
