Built in 1895, this classic Adirondack Camp sits on the eastern shore of beautiful Indian Lake and has incredible views of the lake and Owls Head Mountain, along with spectacular sunsets that defy description. The waterfront is sandy, weed-free and goes out gradually, yet with plenty of depth to tie up a boat to the large, sturdy dock. A canoe and paddle boat are included.
You won't find any drywall here. With hardwood walls and floors throughout, you get the sense of what it was like vacationing in the Adirondacks when Grover Cleveland was President, yet with all the amenities of an updated, fully outfitted kitchen and modern plumbing, including a classic claw-foot tub.
With 4 bedrooms, it sleeps 10 in beds and 2 on a futon in the screened and glassed sunroom.
This is the perfect place to get away and unplug from the wired world. There is no TV, Internet, or Phone, so bring your 3-G devices if you must connect. There is lots of fun to be had enjoying the lake, swimming, fishing, evening camp fires and S'mores, hiking in the mountains and on countless trails in the region and when it's time to come in, playing games, catching up on conversations, telling stories, staring into the fire, or simply relaxing with a good book. It's amazing how you can connect without a device.
Come to Kilburn Lodge and create memories that will last a lifetime.
We have spent two week-long family vacations at Kilborn Lodge, and enjoyed every minute of our time there. Both times, we vacationed with another family- a total of 11 people (4 adults and 7 children, ages 7-14).
The lodge was very rustic, clean, and spacious. The kitchen is well stocked with dishes, cookware and utensil, and there is a spacious dining room with a large table for seating up to 12-14. We cooked dinner every night, and had fun playing board games after dinner. The living room is comfortable for 5-6 people sitting comfortably in front of a beautiful stone fireplace. On cooler nights we had warm/cozy fires with lots of great conversation. We ended up bringing a small flat screen tv and DVD player to watch movies at night, and it was great to have on really rainy days. Generally, though, the weather was sunny and warm. The nights can get a little cool in August, so I would recommend packing warm sleepwear. The beds were very comfortable, and provided us with great rest at night.
There are not enough words to describe the beauty of this lake frontage on Indian Lake. The dock is great for fishing, enjoying the sun, and swimming. The lake has a nice sandy bottom with a gradual walk into the deeper water. The sunsets are gorgeous, with the Loons calling eachother in the background. There is a nice firepit, and plenty of grassy yard to run around in.
When not enjoying this spectacular setting, we enjoyed hiking to local waterfalls, bike riding, and heading into Malone for some adventures in the town. In town there is a great old-fashioned burger joint with yummy ice cream. We also enjoyed going to the used book store which is more like a book warehouse. If you need batteries, sunscreen, etc there is a well stocked grocery store in town, and a Walmart on the outskirts.
We will definitely be going back to Kilborn Lodge! You cannot go wrong by spending your well-deserved vacation there!
Kilburn Lodge was perfect for our family! The clean, spacious, house with beautiful views settled in the Adirondacks was exactly what we were hoping for when we planned our vacation. The modern amenities and close proximity to the gorgeous lake were an added bonus that we truly appreciated. We thoroughly enjoyed cuddling by the rustic fireplace by night after our busy days hiking and playing in the water. If you are looking for a perfect family get-away we highly recommend renting this property- it will exceed your greatest expectations!
Our stay on Indian Lake was magical. The mountain views and sunsets over the lake were like paintings. The house was rustic wood so you felt right at home tucked into the tall trees and mountain tops. The amenities, dish washer, washer and dryer, brand new kitchen and bathrooms were comforting to us city folk. The house included a paddle boat, fire pit, grill and a canoe which we used almost every day. The property was exactly as described and very clean and tidy when we arrived. The property manager was very helpful with facilitating our stay at Kilborn Lodge as were the owners who owned other property on the lake. We hiked Debar Mountain as well as Owl's head mountain and kayaked everyday on the lake. Our friends who gathered from New York, Buffalo, Philadelphia and Boston found Kilborn lodge to be the perfect meeting place. We loved it so much we stayed an extra day. I hope we can make it an annual or semi annual pilgrimage.
