About Kamala Heath

We are English transplants who have fallen in love with the Pacific Northwest. The grandchildren love to come and spend time here.We love sharing the cabin with people who really appreciate the beautiful setting. We have spent years upgrading the property. Not easy with over 110 inches of rain a year! We are thrilled that our guests are returning and recommending the place to their friends. Thank you to all of you and we love your nice comments in the guest book.

Kamala Heath purchased this cabin in 1984

Why Kamala Heath chose Olympic Peninsula

We come here to rest and rejuvenate and leave the city behind. Our family has owned and loved this property for over 25 years. Actually, the property has owned us! Especially the moles! Many of our English relatives have come to visit and are always amazed at the scenery.Last year's favourite memory was of my English buddies from high school sitting around the blazing campfire, late at night, drinks in hand, laughing until we cried. We wish to share this peaceful sanctuary with you.Make sure you take the time to walk the trails and pack a picnic for the beach.

What makes this cabin unique

Tranquility, relaxation, and seclusion. We have enjoyed watching the wildlife in the large yard. The trails are magical. Also the beach-combing,fishing and hunting is pretty good too!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Well i suppose I am a guest now in my own house,as I have to book out the nights I want for myself or my large family.I just want to say a "thank you" to all my returning guests. They must have meant it when they wrote in the guest book "we'll be back" I just had a call from a family coming back for the 5th time. I am a pretty easy drive from the Seattle and Tacoma areas. Their comment was "we have found our retreat and recharge place" It makes me so happy to share the family cabin and the incredible rain forest with gentle nature-loving people. Please continue to leave your fun comments in the guest book and I do appreciate it when you send a review into VRBO. I know you read them when making your travel plans. Thanks again and I hope to hear from you soon. Kamala.

Quiet and serene

  • 5 of 5

This is a gem. If you don't like quiet or being isolated, then it is not for you. We loved the trails, the silence, the birds, the trees, the outdoor shower; the general ambience was just our style. Thank you for not putting up a yard light. We could see the night sky. The forest is wild and we loved that. The owner has put a lot of thought and care into the place; not pretentious but genuine. Houses four people very comfortably. Thank you so much.

This property is gorgeous and located very near the Hoh Rainforest as well as many other Olympic National Park sites. Comfortable home with lots to do. My kids loved it too and had so much fun playing outside. Highly recommended!

Beautiful setting and quaint cottage

  • 4 of 5

This home was a good base to explore the surrounding beaches and the rainforest. Loved the trails around the home. Used the gazebo for an outdoor meal. The home was clean and kitchen well stocked. Although a bit outdated, it was perfect for our needs. The owner was very helpful and responsive as we planned out trip. We highly recommend visiting Ruby Beach at low tide.

Owner's Response: New cook stove in 2016 and new microwave in 2017 But I am sure cooking for seven people out of there must have been "interesting" Glad you had fun at our older vacation cottage

Beyond Compare

  • 5 of 5

This was the highlight of our trip! We wished we would have just relaxed more and not gone to Hall of Mosses (it was great but if you want to be totally alone and see and hear the rainforest without human noise, stay here). The cabin was perfect, homey, comfy and Kamala truly thought of every need you may have. It is really well stocked. There was oil, coffee, tea, ect. The trails were superb and so tranquil and peaceful. The outdoor shower was a treat! Showering in raninwater looking at a rainforest!!! The only suggestion was from my husband that would be to have handrails by the toilet and in the shower. We so want to come here again. Kamala is kind and courteous on the phone a truly good person. Thanks you so much for this experience!!! Lana and family

Owner's Response: Thanks Lana. There is a hand rail in the bathtub. But I will think about what l can do for the toilet and outdoor shower. Yes l hear the comment a lot " we should have avoided the hordes of people and stayed on your trails ". BUT the Hoh Rain Forest park is truly amazing and on a lot of people's bucket list . It does take a whole day of your vacation to see it properly. I tell guests now to go at 8.30 a.m.

Quaint little cottage-your own sanctuary

  • 5 of 5

We recently stayed 2 nights at this cabin. It is totally secluded from everything/everyone. It was nice to be able to walk on the trails and have your own space. The cabin is set up to have everything you need and Kamila has thought of everything. The first thing you notice is how clean everything is and this is usually a big deal for me as I'm kind of picky when it comes to cleanliness. We loved our stay here.

Magical vacation get away

  • 5 of 5

Stayed the week of June 4th, 2017

If you are out there looking for a place to stay in the Forks vicinity, stop. Your search is over. Book a stay at Kamala's Hoh Valley Hideaway. I guarantee you will not regret it. We have stayed at some beautiful VRBO's and Hoh Valley Hideaway is the best one we have ever stayed at. How can you beat a lovely cabin situated on 24, count 'em, 24 acres of a mini rain forest? And gated to boot.

After passing through the gate and driving up a charming lane you come upon a HUGE lawn on which the cabin, gazebo, and outdoor shower are located. This is surrounded by forest with trails running throughout. The cozy cabin has two bedrooms, a nice bathroom, and a fully stocked kitchen with every possible utensil, cooking item, or dish you would ever need. There are electric base board heaters and portable heaters available to warm up the cabin when necessary. Although we were too busy exploring the Olympic National Park and surrounding areas to use them, Kamala has provided tons of board games and movies as well. Technology is represented by the presence of wifi which is balanced by Kamala's old school hand written notes and maps situated throughout the cabin. Nice touch!

I should also mention that not only will you be on your own 24 acre secluded property, the drive down Oil City Road to the beach through the forest passes by only a couple of visible houses adding to the mystical feeling of a private vacation hideaway. A short hike takes you to the beach which we had all to ourselves. Due to its unadvertised location ( and small parking area) I would imagine that you would not except to have to share the beach with too many others. Vacation hint: My favorite activity in Olympic National Park was the 3.2 mile RT Hurricane Hill Trail at Hurricane Ridge that takes you up amongst the peaks with wonderful mountain views.

There is one downside to the property and that is eventually you have to leave. We will always remember our magical stay at Hoh Valley Hideaway. .
