About April Bertram

My husband and I have been coming up north to Grayling since 1983. We always enjoyed snowmobiling, fishing, and hunting. We wanted to provide a place for people to create their own Northern Memories.

April Bertram purchased this cabin in 2012

Why April Bertram chose Northern Michigan

We bought this property because we love the AuSable River and the surrounding area. We enjoy nature walks, fly-fishing, snowmobiling and swimming in the spring fed lake Kneff Lake

What makes this cabin unique

A unique benefit to our cabin is the Jacuzzi room, where we hope that you will enjoy it as much as us and make Northern Memories.

A wonderful, romantic anniversary getaway

  • 5 of 5

My fiancé and I celebrated our anniversary here, and it was a perfect setting for us! The cabin had all the comforts of home, and had everything we needed; including the fully equipped kitchen, delicious baked goods waiting for us when we arrived, the comfy and cozy feel of the home, and the Jacuzzi-tub for two, all making our stay a most treasured memory. It was a memorable experience for our dog as well!

The privacy and seclusion, with the beauty of nature all around us, had us in a state of bliss the entire week. The framed quote on the wall in the Jacuzzi room said it all: we experienced the joy of Just Being.

We would recommend this for anyone - couples and families can all find much to love about the place! We hope to return again, possibly next summer!

Great vacation, beautiful scenery, perfect!

The house is just stocked with so many extras. We never did use the fire pit because of the warm weather, but the gas grill got a lot of use. I thought I would tell you that it may be the compressor in the refrigerator is going bad. It kept our food cold and frozen in the freezer, but it is starting to make the sounds like a failing compressor - this is not a complaint, but just a cautionary note for the future. Last Summer, we stayed at a cabin at Diamond Lake, a HomeAway close to White Cloud. It was good, but your house was just ideal! Thanks again!

Our 2nd stay

  • 5 of 5

This has become our yearly weekend getaway to treat ourselves and our dogs. It was such a relaxing weekend. So many new upgrades since last year: new natural gas fireplace, WiFi, new seats around fireplace, new living room tv/couch/recliner. This is a place u go to do nothing. Which is why we love it so much. The peace and quiet is a nice change from city life. The cabin is so cozy and everything you need is in it. Sad our 3 days are up, but will we be back!

Totally Worth It!

  • 5 of 5

My wife, and I were looking for a getaway from our 8 month old baby for a weekend. We found Northern Memories on the profile looks great, but the experience of being there was much better. The inside of the cabin was very clean, beautifully decorated, and well organized. There were framed notes about the cabin to help answer questions before you even thought to ask them. There were only two of us, but the cabin felt very spacious. The Jacuzzi was wonderful. In fact we had planned to kayak down the Au Sable river, but our trip got rained out. The Jacuzzi was a perfect way to spend a rainy day. There were board games, and books available. We did play the Nintendo Wii for a bit. We didn't get to spend much time in the back yard due to the rain, but looking forward to the fire pit, and using the gas grill on a future stay. The owners were very friendly, helpful, and accommodating. The cinnamon bread was delicious. One of many pleasant surprises at Northern Memories. The Stephens Bridge Party Store is very conveniently located about 3 minutes away. We would absolutely recommend this property to friends, relatives, and complete strangers looking for a comfortable, and relaxing getaway.

Stayed July 22-July26, 2016

Enough cannot be said about what an exceptional home April and Charlie are providing to outsiders. It is quaint, friendly, inviting, warm and cozy. It was a rare find in the plethora of cabin inventory in Northern Michigan to be lucky enough to have a large fenced in area for the furry kid and central air conditioning. All the other amenities exceeded our expectations from the fully stocked bathroom (one really only needs their toothbrush) and laundry room to the wonderful cinnamon bread from the local bakery and the delectable ground cherry coffee to the newest months' current magazines, brochures of all Grayling and surrounding areas have to offer. Most mornings and evenings were spent at the bar top in the "Jacuzzi room" observing the myriad of different animals partaking of the numerous bird feeders directly outside the window - Blue Jays, Mourning Doves, rabbits, chipmunks and squirrels. Their bickering and playfulness was simply mesmerizing as well as extremely relaxing. The only drawback, which others may consider a blessing, (and I may have missed it on their website) is that they do not have wifi/internet access. I soon got over the initial panic of not being able to work and spent the rest of the time just vacationing-so, thank you, April and Charlie for that! We delighted in finding the Stephan Bridge General Store a block away to purchase very reasonable priced breakfast burritos, stocked up on beer and wine and discovered the most fabulous bacon from the locker in Wolverine, Michigan. The only other eatery we experienced in Grayling was the Paddle Hard Brewery - shared their quinoa salad and margarita pizza while sitting outside enjoying adult beverages and people watching. There are also a number of cute boutiques in downtown Grayling although we had limited time to visit all of them. In summary, there is no hesitation in recommending this home and experience to any and all that are looking for that time away to re-energize one's body, mind and soul we all need to do but seldom achieve.
