My husband and I have been coming up north to Grayling since 1983. We always enjoyed snowmobiling, fishing, and hunting. We wanted to provide a place for people to create their own Northern Memories.
April Bertram purchased this cabin in 2012
We bought this property because we love the AuSable River and the surrounding area. We enjoy nature walks, fly-fishing, snowmobiling and swimming in the spring fed lake Kneff Lake
A unique benefit to our cabin is the Jacuzzi room, where we hope that you will enjoy it as much as us and make Northern Memories.
My wife, and I were looking for a getaway from our 8 month old baby for a weekend. We found Northern Memories on HomeAway.com. the profile looks great, but the experience of being there was much better. The inside of the cabin was very clean, beautifully decorated, and well organized. There were framed notes about the cabin to help answer questions before you even thought to ask them. There were only two of us, but the cabin felt very spacious. The Jacuzzi was wonderful. In fact we had planned to kayak down the Au Sable river, but our trip got rained out. The Jacuzzi was a perfect way to spend a rainy day. There were board games, and books available. We did play the Nintendo Wii for a bit. We didn't get to spend much time in the back yard due to the rain, but looking forward to the fire pit, and using the gas grill on a future stay. The owners were very friendly, helpful, and accommodating. The cinnamon bread was delicious. One of many pleasant surprises at Northern Memories. The Stephens Bridge Party Store is very conveniently located about 3 minutes away. We would absolutely recommend this property to friends, relatives, and complete strangers looking for a comfortable, and relaxing getaway.
Stayed July 22-July26, 2016
Enough cannot be said about what an exceptional home April and Charlie are providing to outsiders. It is quaint, friendly, inviting, warm and cozy. It was a rare find in the plethora of cabin inventory in Northern Michigan to be lucky enough to have a large fenced in area for the furry kid and central air conditioning. All the other amenities exceeded our expectations from the fully stocked bathroom (one really only needs their toothbrush) and laundry room to the wonderful cinnamon bread from the local bakery and the delectable ground cherry coffee to the newest months' current magazines, brochures of all Grayling and surrounding areas have to offer. Most mornings and evenings were spent at the bar top in the "Jacuzzi room" observing the myriad of different animals partaking of the numerous bird feeders directly outside the window - Blue Jays, Mourning Doves, rabbits, chipmunks and squirrels. Their bickering and playfulness was simply mesmerizing as well as extremely relaxing. The only drawback, which others may consider a blessing, (and I may have missed it on their website) is that they do not have wifi/internet access. I soon got over the initial panic of not being able to work and spent the rest of the time just vacationing-so, thank you, April and Charlie for that! We delighted in finding the Stephan Bridge General Store a block away to purchase very reasonable priced breakfast burritos, stocked up on beer and wine and discovered the most fabulous bacon from the locker in Wolverine, Michigan. The only other eatery we experienced in Grayling was the Paddle Hard Brewery - shared their quinoa salad and margarita pizza while sitting outside enjoying adult beverages and people watching. There are also a number of cute boutiques in downtown Grayling although we had limited time to visit all of them. In summary, there is no hesitation in recommending this home and experience to any and all that are looking for that time away to re-energize one's body, mind and soul we all need to do but seldom achieve.

I had a great time. More importantly, my puppers had a great time.
Northern memories is a beautiful place to stay. The cabin is very neat and clean and the fenced yard was a bonus for our dog.The Jacuzzi room was awesome, very relaxing. We will stay there again on our next vacation.
Just what we were looking for. A secluded cabin near great trails at Hartwick Pines and canoeing on Au Sable River. Hot tub room is awesome, sync’d iphone to sound bar for our favorite Pandora channels. Great setting for a weekend get away for my wife and I from the kids to celebrate my wife’s 40th birthday. Love the notes left throughout cabin with instructions, you really made it feel like home for us. Would highly recommend to everyone.
The location of the cabin was perfect for our fishing trip. The cabin was extremely comfortable and clean. The queen size bed mattress was outstanding. Slept like a baby. According to my brother and his son, the twin beds were very comfortable. Having a large screened TV was great to watch sports and movies. The nice touch of having the cimmonin bread was great. It didn't last long. Having the fenced in backyard was totally enjoyed by the dog. The chipmucks and squirrels proved to be faster than the dog but not by much. The firepit was great to enjoy after a long day fishing. The only thing we had a problem with was there were no bars on our cell phones. We had to go towards town 2 miles to get bars. Having a wi-fi system may be of benefit. Overall the cabin was the way to go for us and we plan on returning next year. It sure beat being cooped up in a motel room especially when it rains. A totally great experience.
The cabin is located 1 mile South of Gates Lodge and the beautiful AuSable River. Enjoy wonderful Fly Fishing, Snowmobiling, Hunting. Enjoy the newly remodeled cabin with Jacuzzi, beautiful Knotty-Pine living room.
