Bethany purchased this condo in 1990
Our family invested in this property over twenty years ago, we have had many Summers filled with wonderful memories amid the Banyan trees and warm sands of Maui. We open our home to you in hopes that you too may create memorable moments in this beautiful spot.
Tucked away in the quiet tranquility of Honokowai,Papkea offers the most grounds per guest, yet provides easy access to all of the tourist destinations one could hope for. It is a true escape in paradiso!
"Our stay at the condo was wonderful. Gorgeous views, fabulous sunsets. The condo is very confortable, fully equiped, beautifully decorated!"
We visited Maui and stayed in this condo in March 2017. It was unseasonably warm with little to no wind while we were there, so thankfully there were plenty of fans throughout the condo. The view is just amazing! My favorite thing to do was sit out on the balcony every morning, drink coffee and watch the whales! You could sit there and watch them from the condo! The condo has everything that you need including coffee pot & all the necessities. Right down the road is a grocery store that sells a lot of local food along with a wonderful coffee shop. They also have a farmers market there once a week. The location is perfect, you can walk down the road to Kaanapali beach and my kids loved the 2 pools at Papakae. Bethany was amazing and let us have a late checkout, making it so that we could fully enjoy our last day in Maui!
We took our family vacation on spring break to Maui and stayed at Bethany's place in Papakea. We had a marvelous time. The view from the Lanai is fantastic - exactly as the pictures showed. The grounds at Papakea and both pools are immaculate. We BBQ'd every night down by the pool, and spent our mornings drinking coffee on the chaise lounges by the seawall. Its a couple minutes walk to the Fish Market, Farmer's Market and Bad Ass coffee shop.
We would stay again the next time we head to Maui!
Our family of 5 really enjoyed our time in Papakea B408. Our kids, ages 9, 4, and 2 slept very comfortably upstairs (older kids each had one of the twin beds and our 2-year old slept on the floor on a 'nest' we had made). There was a pack-n-play in the closet but we didn't end up using it. Kitchen was well stocked and other essentials almost lasted us the entire 10 days we were there (toilet paper, paper towels, ziplock bags etc.). Plenty of boogie boards, snorkel gear, beach chairs, umbrella, cooler...and we are leaving two sets of sand toys (buckets shovels etc). The condo stayed cool even without A/C because of the breeze and plentiful ceiling fans and fans. The sunsets were glorious, and hearing the ocean was soooo relaxing. Kaanapali beach is a couple minute drive down the road and was perfect for kids. The condo itself has a small sandy area that fronts the resort and is within easy walking distance and we went there a few times. There are two pools and one is heated, which we all loved. The hot tub was also very popular with our family. Lahaina was a great option for strolling and shopping and is only about a 10 minute drive away, tops. I would recommend buying paper plates and cups if you have small kids, as the porcelain dishes and glasses were always one step away from accidentally being broken on tile floors/glass tabletops. Papakea resort was very accommodating and had shuffleboard, putt putt golf, and other amenities that were nice. An ABC store (convenience store/gift shop) was a minute walk from the condo, and we had a keycard that allowed us to access it from the parking lot of the condo, very helpful! Bethany the owner was also very accommodating and was responsive when we needed it. We wanted to find a condo that was in a good location for beaches for our young kids and amenities and space for our family...Papakea and condo B408 definitely fit the bill!
Mahalo! The McDonald Family (Gig Harbor, WA)
Property was well maintained and clean. Loved sitting in the hot tub every night after a long day of playing around the island. Staff was very accommodating and nice. Location was good. There is some shops and the farmers market just down the street. Fridge was updated to stainless since the pictures were taken. Kitchen was stocked well. Except the knives are broken so be careful when using them. We thought master bed was comfy. Kids said beds in loft were also comfy. Pull out bed in living room was as comfy as a pull out can get. Also one lamp in master bedroom wasn't working and tv remote was broken in master. But I didn't go to Hawaii to watch tv so it wasn't a deal breaker for us. Master door also needs to be replaced. You have to lift up on it to get it to shut or it catches on the carpet and starts to come apart at bottom. It was stocked with 5 beach chairs, snorkeling gear (we brought our own so not sure of working condition on those). It had 2 boogie boards though one was being held together with duck tape so we bought a new one and a couple noodles and just left them for future guests. It also had a full size ice chest that we used daily. Our view was exactly what was shown in the pictures. It was great to sit on the lani and drink coffe and watch the whales jump every morning. There's plenty of seating in condo. Maybe too much furniture for such a small space. Didn't have much room for our luggage as the closets were packed with other stuff. They have some games to play with on rainy days. And I just loved reading about everyone's experiences they had on the island in the journals left for you to write in! Overall the condo was clean and stocked with the basics. We would definitely stay at this resort again.
We had an amazing time at the Papakea Resort and I would definitely recommend it to others. The pros - fully stocked with everything you need, our view from our balcony was just amazing and the grounds were really well maintained. The location was perfect - a 10 minute walk to the best beach around. The cons - our room could have used some TLC. The lighting was very poor. I would also suggest putting some money into the bedding - that goes along way.
Overall, me and my family all enjoyed our time at Papakea and I would go back in a heartbeat.
Papakea Resort was awesome. Keep in mind when looking at pricing that the $17/day resort fee is not included and you will have to pay that when you get there to use the facility and to park. I do not recommend this property for families with young children! The loft is extremely dangerous as the bed is pushed right up against the pony wall. We could not even let my three year old up there for fear he might go over the short pony wall even after we moved the bed away. The photos gave me an impression that there was a bar to sit at. There is not. This was only an issue for me because I brought a high chair that I was going to use on the bar and could not use it on a glass table. The plants and walls were extremely dusty and there were plumbing issues. Another safety issue was the knives provided are all broken except one. We were not able to use the pull out bed because we couldn't find the sheets. This issue was taken care of in a few days but by the time we got the sheets we had already came up with another option. Many light bulbs were out. We could have changed them but who wants to do that while you are on vacation. Also didn't want people coming in and doing maintenance while we were there so we just left everything as it was. The floors and beds and bathrooms were clean and there were some extra things like shampoo and conditioner. Lots of tools, pots and pans in the kitchen for cooking but not much besides salt and pepper in the cabinets. There is no AC and that was fine. Lots of snorkel gear and 1 functioning boogie board, a broken stroller, cooler, beach towels, beach mats, and beach umbrellas. Bethany was nice and quick to respond. Papakea is so close to everything you don't really need to drive anywhere. Overall we had a good stay but I would not book this location again with small children.
