About Susan Deichsel

Back to year purchased: It was newly built in 2008 as a secondary structure behind our home in the Old Town/ Downtown neighborhood of Albuquerque and was therefore built to be exactly what it is. It was envisioned to be the kind of elegant, comfortable, private, and friendly place it is. And, we aren't just pet friendly, we love pets! We think of our cottage as a budget friendly, special accommodation for those who do not like the hustle of hotel travel.

Dick and Susan live in the house in front (that's us) and try to give our guests enough personal attention to feel attended to, and enough space and privacy to feel as if they are truly away from their every day lives in a special place in the quirky and historic center of the gorgeous Southwest, Albuquerque.

Susan Deichsel purchased this cottage in 2008

Why Susan Deichsel chose Albuquerque

We actually purchased the house in 2006 to use it as a short-term rental, but we were so quickly insinuated into the fabric of this very special community that we decided to stay on, but to still have a short-term rental by building one to order, and had fortunately purchased in a neighborhood whose zoning allowed such things.

We wanted it to be optionally walkable and bike-able to many of the neighborhood attractions and to also be near the historic center of the city, so that it wouldn't just feel as if it was just a suburb, that could be anywhere. . It is therefore not large, as is the case in central city locations, but has just the right mix of both interior features to enjoy and hassle free attractions to avail oneselves of. You will feel right at home in La Casita Rosada, with owners who treat it like a business but also offer the 'high-touch' usually found at special resort properties.

Charming, Efficient, and Central to Bosque, Old Town, Downtown

  • 5 of 5

Couldn't have asked for anything better for me. Susan and Dick were welcoming, friendly, informative hosts, rather like good friends. The guest house was setup to be private, efficient, spacious with enough places for all 'your stuff' and it had Netflix :-). The outside patios were laid out such, that they provided walkarounds and peaceful seating areas, so you didn't feel enclosed. My dog felt at home with all the places to explore outside, all nice and safe for him. He got along very well with the resident (and wonderful) dog and cat. Central to walking to Old Town, short drive to the Bosque and Downtown. Bikes are perfect if you can bring one. I had friends and family stop by, it was located within 6 blocks of Old Town, museums, parks, restaurants. And, 2 short blocks from a Gertrude Zachary store....if you like jewelry :-). Two blocks the other way is a gas station and a marketplace. My favorite grocery was the Co-Op on Rio Grande just past Indian School (on the way to the Boxque). I've stayed at several VRBO places and, for me, this was the best. Thank you.

Very nice property. Very well maintained, comfortable and aesthetically pleasing

  • 4 of 5

Dick and Susan were charming and informative hosts. They have taken a personal interest in, are well informed about, the downtown/Old Town area. The casita was immaculate and their attention to detail made our stay even more enjoyable. The linens were ironed, the bed comfy and the kitchen well stocked with the basics. We enjoyed breakfast on the patio each morning. We would definitely recommend it to a friend and look forward to returning there when we are in the area again.

Absolutely Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

Everything about my stay at this property was perfect. Susan and Dick were very friendly and welcoming. The property was even lovelier than the pictures on VRBO. Everything about this space was comfort, comfort, comfort....the bed was amazing! It was obvious in every detail that the guest's comfort was in mind. I also liked the fact that the property was very close to excellent restaurants and Old Town Albuquerque. I would highly recommend La Casita Rosada to either a single or couple travelling to Albuquerque. Thank you again Susan and Dick for making my time in Albuquerque so nice!

Great little Casita with incredible hosts and located near everything you need.

  • 5 of 5

Susan and Dick are amazing hosts that take pride in their property and work hard to make sure your stay is as enjoyable as possible. The Casita is not ADA compliant, but that being said, getting around in my wheelchair was easy enough. They even took off the shower door so I could use the shower. Another great aspect of staying here is their knowledge of all the goings on in downtown and know all the best restaurants as well. The bed and linens are great and the kitchen is well stocked for most of your culinary desires. I highly recommend staying here as long as your reservation doesn't clash with mine.

Loved this place. It felt just like home. Very private, clean and well maintained. Loved all the modern amenities. Very New Mexican chic. It was a great space for two people and our two small dogs. Adorable little neighborhood. Susan was lovely and we can't wait to go back.

A charming casita in the heart of Albuquerque

  • 5 of 5

After walking through my own private entrance with paved and a beautifully landscaped garden, my casita was just behind the owners home, which afforded privacy and easy access if I had any questions. The unit had a king-sized bed with the most comfortable mattress to ease me right into sleep. There was a very comfortable recliner to read or watch television, table and chairs for those days that I chose to eat in and a fully equipped kitchen right down to coffee, tea and sugar. There was room enough for my computer and other toys and a luxurious bathroom with a tiled shower. Its location is perfect for walking to Old Town, a gourmet food market, a wonderful tapas restaurant that I only found out about during my last days. I would've spent many more meals there had I known! Downtown is just a few blocks away. The owners, Dick and Susan were wonderful. They were very accommodating and knowledgeable about the area. Plus they are terrific cooks! I am planning to extend my visit next year as I loved it so much.

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for your kind words and for noticing so many of the details that we believe make our modern casita such a great choice to alight for both long and short stays in Albuquerque. See you back next year.
