Overview

About the property

Villa, 2br/1ba sleeps 4 adults. Adjacent to VRBO# 453657

Year round special. Pay for four nights and the fifth night is free!

'Rosella' is a cottage built on the shores of the beautiful and private Mountain Island Lake. Much of this lake is parklands, wildlife, sanctuaries and properties restricted from development. This home was built in 1952 by Ben Douglas, long time Charlotte Mayor and name sake of the Charlotte Douglas Airport. It was common at that time for Charlottes wealthier residents to have little lake cabins for vacation

homes. This cabin has provided decades of lakefront fun and fishing. Inside and out the place looks very much like it did in 1952. Years ago the house was divided into two separate apartments. In 2011 we converted the upstairs into a vacation rental. In March 2014 we completely updated the decor. We provide high speed wireless, flat screen TV's, Wii and a state of the art karaoke machine with thousands of songs, but you can get most of that at a Holiday Inn. The unique experience you get with a stay here is that little step back in time. It starts when you pull in to the skinny gravel drive and end up at a plain but well kept mid-century home. There are paneled walls unit a/c and no dishwasher. No subdivision, no pool, no tennis courts. There are only two other neighbors. There is a 1 bed room unit below that is also available for rent(.VRBO 453657) Unless you plan on renting both units you should be planning a quiet stay. Prior guests that have most enjoyed Rosella spend much of their time on the screened porch overlooking the lake. Rosella was built right on the lake's shoreline. You are so close to the boats going by you can see right inside them. At night when they cruise by you could truly join in their conversation. The place is very popular and in our few short years leasing it we have had hundreds of guests. In that time we have learned that Rosella is not for everyone. We have done our best to accurately describe the "experience." If that slow paced step back in time is not what you are looking for you may not enjoy Rosella, if on the other hand, you would like to relive the way things used to be or experience it for the first time we don't think you will be disappointed. We look forward to your arrival. In 2014, we just purchased a new Harris Floteboat that will be docked at the home and available for rent. Rental fee is $150/day and includes gas and insurance. This rate is approximately 1/2 the going rate in the area. Boat rental is scheduled separately from the vacation rental. It is strongly advised that you reserve it prior to your stay. A security deposit and application is required in advance.

About Bob Rudolph

We are Bob and Kim and we are lake enthusiast. We own homes on several of the lakes in the area. We presently live on a lake close by and we love this place so much we spend many weekends here.

Bob Rudolph purchased this house in 1990

Why Bob Rudolph chose Charlotte

We lived here at one time and knew we could never part with it. 'Rosella' is not an investment for us. She is part of the family. We know that if you stay here and get to know Mountain Island Lake you will be 'hooked' too.

If you need to be in or around the city for any reason there is

no other lake front property available closer or more convenient. The airport is truly just 10 minutes away.

You would never guess that you were so close to everything

when you are at Rosella. The county has bought all but three

house to build a future 100+ acre lake front park. Rosella

is surrounded by the park and lake. There is a small vacation

home to the left that you can see. Other than that it is trees,

lake and sky!

What makes this house unique

Many of our guests come to experience the National Whitewater Center. If you come, we strongly suggest you visit there. It's a man made river rapids that you can kayak or do a guided raft run. This is the only man made Olympic qualifying rapids in the country.

There is vertical rock climbing, zip lining and a lot more outdoor adventures. If you don't feel quite that adventurous there is a riverside restaurant where you can get a great meal and a glass of wine while you watch crazy people careen down a wall of water and rocks. There are also summer concerts and island sunset parties. It costs just $5 to park and nothing to visit the center. You can drive from Rosella, park your car, and walk to the river's edge in less than 10 minutes.

Owner lives close by and at your request will take you out and give you a tour of the lake. There are sandy beaches for picnics or camping and a sandbar where all the local boaters gather. Adjacent to the property is a large county owned park that has miles of hiking and wildlife. Believe it or not but all of this is just 15 mins from downtown Charlotte and all the major attractions Charlotte has to offer.

Close to everything yet feels far away!

  • 5 of 5

My family & I stayed at Rosella twice now. The first trip we stayed downstairs and then upstairs on our next! Both cottages are very well appointed, can accommodate a small family very well and are very cozy! We even got to use the hot tub, very relaxing.

We were able to bring our small dog along, he enjoyed walking the grounds, chasing squirrels and relaxing on the deck.

We will definitely stay here again, the two bedroom upstairs unit is our favorite. We liked that you don't have to worry about a thing, Bob provides all linens, pillows, & towels. We had a great time!

Hidden Gem

  • 5 of 5

We were visiting friends in Charlotte and did not want to stay downtown and starting searching on VRBO. We came across this perfect lake house on the water yet near downtown Charlotte. You feel like you are worlds away from the city as soon as you turn down the driveway. The property is well maintained with beautiful sunrise views. We enjoyed using the hot tub and sitting on the dock. We plan on visiting again this year. The beds were very comfortable and the house is nicely furnished. Mr. Rudolph responded immediately to our questions prior to our stay. Truly a great spot and hidden gem.

It's not bad! Pics make it look way better!

Personal preference, no fault of the owners, but the bed was hard. As it turns out, we only stayed one night because we visited Spartanburg, SC and liked it so we stayed there for 2 out of our 3 night stay. Great communication with the owners!!

Owner's Response: Lora, It was a pleasure working with ya'll. I am sorry you were disappointed. We took the pictures in the summer and I will admit the winter makes everything a little drearier. I will go by today and look the place over. We have had some great comments this year and I may have gotten complacent. If there was anything specific we could do please let me know. Its not a fancy place but we want everyone to have a pleasant experience. Bob and Kim

Lovely stay

  • 4 of 5

Beautiful little cabin tucked away but not too far from downtown Charlotte. Everything was as advertised. We spent the day at the US Whitewater center and had a blast! The lake view from the cabin is stunning. Only thing it lacked was a wine bottle opener! Had to go out and purchase one.

Owner's Response: We are so glad you had a good time. Sorry about the cork screw. It is a real job keeping up with the things that just disappear but I will get a new one.

A unique feature to this property is that we have a boat rental company that provides your choice of either a pontoon boat or ski boat right from the dock in front of the house. Please inquire for additional details.

Please note We are struggling to continue to offer

the boats. We have had guests that over estimated

their nautical expertise and have had numerous accidents and mechanical break downs due to inexperience. We will have to have a large deposit

to secure a boat and please be honest about your

experience level. I am more than glad to take you

out and show you the ropes. Boats will be available

as it is mechanically possible.
