Our custom-built (new in 2005) year-round second home will welcome you to experience summer relaxation in style! The house is near charming Wakefield, Narragansett, Westerly and several of RI's best beaches, and we include a beach pass to Matunuck Beach. The house, equipped with an elevator serving all levels, is a three-level “upside down” house with central AC and gas fireplace; the main living, decks and master bedroom are on the top floor for maximum views of Green Hill Pond and your private yard. Start your day with morning coffee in the tree-tops on the top deck overlooking the pond. Head out to explore the pond by kayak or canoe from your private dock. Spend a cozy winter day reading by the fire, or watching the game on cable with surround-sound, or cooking in the oversized kitchen. Come summer, you can canoe, kayak, or rent an outboard from a local marina to cross the pond to a private beach; or drive to a different gorgeous RI beach each day. Come home from the beach to an outdoor shower, then enjoy sunset cocktails on the roof deck with views to the ocean and Block Island. Cook your dinner on the outdoor gas grill or in the large, well-equipped kitchen with double ovens, microwave, gas cooktop. Eat it on the covered deck or the large dining room. Then climb into comfortable beds with new mattresses in one of the four bedrooms (one king, two queens, two bunks) with the ocean waves in the background (or the quiet hum of air conditioning). The occasional rainy day? No worries! The upstairs living room is spacious for quiet reading, music (or napping), the downstairs living room has cable TV, DVD, board games, etc. WiFi throughout the house. Mystic Seaport, Aquarium, Newport and more within a half hour’s drive. Our elevator serves all three levels so everyone can be included.
4 Bedrooms, 3.5 bathrooms, sleeps 8-10, elevator, 3 large decks, 2 living rooms

About Sandra Wood Forand
Our home base is in Hartford, Connecticut but we frequently escape to our home-away-from-home in Rhode Island, and enjoy traveling in our retirement. We built this -- Bernie's Dream House -- in the first year of our marriage in 2005 and both house and marriage are big successes. The house is large, to welcome various groupings of our 6 children and spouses, and 13 grandchildren (and counting), and numerous friends. After a walk, paddle on the pond or a day at the beach, we like to gather with friends or curl up with lots of books, whether on the deck or by the fire.

Why Sandra Wood Forand chose South Kingstown
Bernie dreamed of a house near the beach his whole life, and having lived in Rhode Island in the past he gravitated to the beautiful RI beaches. He found the land in 2002 and started designing the house before he retired, and by the time Sandy came on the scene it had gone through five architects and numerous design phases. It was worth the wait -- the result is spectacular yet comfortable, expansive yet cozy in each area of the house.
What makes this House unique
Many families choose to rent our house because we have an elevator serving all three levels, so people who are less mobile can be part of the family vacation. Because it is our dream house, it has special touches like beautiful dark Brazilian hardwood and solid oak floors. One of the most striking features is our deck area -- there are 250 square feet of deck on the guest room level, an equal amount on the top main floor, a 150 square foot 'crow's nest' deck at roof level from which you can see the ocean and Block Island. (One of our carpenters assigned to the deck commented, 'There is as much room on these decks as in the whole house!')

Lovely, Spacious Home
We spent Thanksgiving in Rhode Island this year. We wanted to rent a house big and comfortable enough to host a modest dinner with a few guests. This property exceeded every expectation we had. The kitchen was a dream for cooking, the living room with a fireplace was comfortable and cozy. Even on a cold day when beach and swimming activities weren’t at all an option, the view was gorgeous. The sun rising over the water each morning was so beautiful. We couldn’t stop thinking about how great the house must be in the summer, with windows open and meals on the spacious porches. With four bedrooms, there is plenty of sleeping space for a big family - and with two living rooms and three full baths (plus one half), you don’t trip over each other.
A big selling point of this home for us was the accessibility. My nephew uses a wheelchair and we wanted to be able to invite him over without any stress. Sandy made sure to have the ramp in place from the garage prior to our arrival, and the elevator was great. The doorways are wide and the floor plan is open enough that my nephew had no trouble navigating around. It’s so hard to find a rental that is truly accessible! But this home fit the bill.
You won’t regret this one. I’d love to come back during the summer sometime.
We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay, Stacy. We are especially grateful to a prior renter who designed the ramps which we happily paid for, so your nephew could come enjoy his family conveniently. And thanks for taking such excellent care of our beloved house. We would love to have you back any time.
Beautiful home and property. An oasis
The property was very well maintained and the house immaculate. We absolutely loved our time spent here. Morning jogs down the private road followed by cups of coffee on the porch and lazy beach days. Just a perfect setting. I am grateful they choose to share their beautiful home to renters
Beautiful, immaculate and cozy.
Sandy has down a remarkable job thinking of everything you may possibly need. The home is clean, up to date and ....THE VIEWS!!! Close to everything..beaches, Newport, Mystic. Or nothing....private, quiet. Simply gorgeous.
Many thanks and so glad you enjoyed your vacation!
Incredible house with great views!
My family and I loved this home! As others have said, the elevator was great for moving in and out. We spent a lot of time outdoors enjoying the decks overlooking the pond. It was a very hot and humid week, having central air provided welcome relief, along with nice breezes on the dock and water. We appreciated having the canoe, kayaks and bikes available for use.
The house is beautiful, very spacious and clean with great views of Green Hill Pond. The kitchen is very large and well equipped, we did a lot of grilling and dining on the deck right outside the kitchen. The house provided the perfect setting for our extended family to enjoy the July 4th holiday.
The location is great, in a quiet neighborhood, but still only a few minutes away from restaurants, grocery stores and the many RI beaches. Sandy made the reservation process very easy. I highly recommended this home and hope to stay here again, everything is provided for a relaxing vacation.
We are so glad you enjoyed our home as much as we do! You're welcome to come back any time.
Great place for family get together!
Loved everything about this place! Vacationed with our sons and their wives and our 2 grandchildren (2 months and 3 &1/2 yrs. old). The elevator was great for moving in and out. We were gifted with a gorgeous sunrise over the pond on our first morning. Although the weather was not that great, we spent a lot of time relaxing in the upstairs living room. (This room does not have a tv and that was wonderful - we never missed it!) And the family room below was a great alternative place to hang out (tv included there). Spent a large amount of time on upper deck overlooking the pond, weather permitting. Very comfortable chairs. We even gave the canoe a try. Nearby Beach was lovely, but a bit breezy. Nice location between Westerly and Narragansett. Took a short drive to Roger Williams Zoo.
Overall it was comfortable and very clean. Each family had plenty of room if anyone wanted privacy. Everything was provided and I can’t thank the owners enough for sharing their home.
We are so pleased you enjoyed our home as much as we do. Happy to have you back any time!
Beautiful house in a wonderful location
The moment our family of six (3 generations) walked in the house we were very impressed. It is a beautiful house, very clean, very spacious with extraordinary views of Green Hill Pond from every room. We loved everything about the house: the very nice furniture, the comfortable beds, the very well equipped kitchen, the grill on the deck right out of the kitchen and all the outdoors furniture to relax on the multiple outdoor spaces. Our kids loved hanging out in the family room while the adults were relaxing in the upstairs living room. The elevator was very handy for the luggages and the groceries.
We enjoyed the dock on the pond, the kayaks and the canoe. Having 2 bikes available was very handy for a quick trip to the bakery or the nearby beach.
The location is perfect, very serene but only a couple minutes away from restaurant, grocery stores and the many beautiful RI beaches.
Sandy the owner made the reservation process a breeze. Highly recommended, especially if you are looking for a house that is way above the typical rentals.
We are so pleased that you enjoyed our home with your family. We designed it for that purpose for OUR family and feel lucky to be able to share it.
Our quiet beach house is only half an hour away from historic Mystic Seaport and Mystic Acquarium to the south, and the luxuries and shopping of Newport, RI to the north. Biking on level roads is excellent. Buy fresh lobsters straight off the fishing boats just 20 minutes away at Point Judith.
