At a 40% discount for the week leading up to and including Labor Day, 2017, our custom-built (new in 2005) year-round second home will welcome you to experience summer relaxation in style! The house is near charming Wakefield, Narragansett, Westerly and several of RI's best beaches, and we include a beach pass to Matunuck Beach. The house, equipped with an elevator serving all levels, is a three-level “upside down” house with central AC and gas fireplace; the main living, decks and master bedroom are on the top floor for maximum views of Green Hill Pond and your private yard. Start your day with morning coffee in the tree-tops on the top deck overlooking the pond. Head out to explore the pond by kayak or canoe from your private dock. Spend a cozy winter day reading by the fire, or watching the game on cable with surround-sound, or cooking in the oversized kitchen. Come summer, you can canoe, kayak, or rent an outboard from a local marina to cross the pond to a private beach; or drive to a different gorgeous RI beach each day. Come home from the beach to an outdoor shower, then enjoy sunset cocktails on the roof deck with views to the ocean and Block Island. Cook your dinner on the outdoor gas grill or in the large, well-equipped kitchen with double ovens, microwave, gas cooktop. Eat it on the covered deck or the large dining room. Then climb into comfortable beds with new mattresses in one of the four bedrooms (one king, two queens, two bunks) with the ocean waves in the background (or the quiet hum of air conditioning). The occasional rainy day? No worries! The upstairs living room is spacious for quiet reading, music (or napping), the downstairs living room has cable TV, DVD, board games, etc. WiFi throughout the house. Mystic Seaport, Aquarium, Newport and more within a half hour’s drive. Our elevator serves all three levels so everyone can be included.

About Sandra Wood Forand
Our home base is in Hartford, Connecticut but we frequently escape to our home-away-from-home in Rhode Island, and enjoy traveling in our retirement. We built this -- Bernie's Dream House -- in the first year of our marriage in 2005 and both house and marriage are big successes. The house is large, to welcome various groupings of our 6 children and spouses, and 13 grandchildren (and counting), and numerous friends. After a walk, paddle on the pond or a day at the beach, we like to gather with friends or curl up with lots of books, whether on the deck or by the fire.

Why Sandra Wood Forand chose South Kingstown
Bernie dreamed of a house near the beach his whole life, and having lived in Rhode Island in the past he gravitated to the beautiful RI beaches. He found the land in 2002 and started designing the house before he retired, and by the time Sandy came on the scene it had gone through five architects and numerous design phases. It was worth the wait -- the result is spectacular yet comfortable, expansive yet cozy in each area of the house.
What makes this House unique
Many families choose to rent our house because we have an elevator serving all three levels, so people who are less mobile can be part of the family vacation. Because it is our dream house, it has special touches like beautiful dark Brazilian hardwood and solid oak floors. One of the most striking features is our deck area -- there are 250 square feet of deck on the guest room level, an equal amount on the top main floor, a 150 square foot 'crow's nest' deck at roof level from which you can see the ocean and Block Island. (One of our carpenters assigned to the deck commented, 'There is as much room on these decks as in the whole house!')

Beautiful house in a wonderful location
The moment our family of six (3 generations) walked in the house we were very impressed. It is a beautiful house, very clean, very spacious with extraordinary views of Green Hill Pond from every room. We loved everything about the house: the very nice furniture, the comfortable beds, the very well equipped kitchen, the grill on the deck right out of the kitchen and all the outdoors furniture to relax on the multiple outdoor spaces. Our kids loved hanging out in the family room while the adults were relaxing in the upstairs living room. The elevator was very handy for the luggages and the groceries.
We enjoyed the dock on the pond, the kayaks and the canoe. Having 2 bikes available was very handy for a quick trip to the bakery or the nearby beach.
The location is perfect, very serene but only a couple minutes away from restaurant, grocery stores and the many beautiful RI beaches.
Sandy the owner made the reservation process a breeze. Highly recommended, especially if you are looking for a house that is way above the typical rentals.
We are so pleased that you enjoyed our home with your family. We designed it for that purpose for OUR family and feel lucky to be able to share it.
Our extended family had a tremendous week in this most beautiful home. The house is immaculate and extremely well equipped. It is in a most picturesque spot as it overlooks a serene pond. Several family members got up early to take sunrise canoe trips. We spent many peaceful hours sitting on the deck ( we even enjoyed watching the solar eclipse from the deck). There was plenty of room for our family. We found the house to be well furnished with comfortable beds and linens. The elevator was very handy as we used it to bring in our luggage and groceries.
The house is in a perfect spot to visit the many Rhode Island beaches, and it is a short drive to lovely Watch Hill and the Mystic Aquarium. There was plenty to do for all three generations of us. Sandy was very helpful making sure we got settled in easily. We hope to return next summer!
Lovely house near Green Hill Beach
This three-story house was well-designed, nicely furnished, and well-maintained. It features: A lovely kitchen with state-of-the-art appliances; two decks with splendid pond views; central air conditioning (though it was not really necessary, with ceiling fans and plenty of ventilation on the top two floors). The owner provided lots of suggestions with helpful info on everything, including TV, wifi, and local sights and restaurants. An elevator makes moving in easy, but the device that ensures closure sometimes makes it difficult to use. The house includes everything anyone needs for the beach, plus kayaks and a canoe for the pond. The mosquitoes from the pond can be troublesome in the morning and evening; and poison ivy pervades the pathways just about everywhere. Parents with children must be very careful. The bathrooms are modern, with every amenity, and the entire place was clean and in perfect repair. Very highly recommended.
We are so glad you enjoyed your time in our home. Sorry about the poison ivy -- it was barely visible when we left in July, we will get right on it!
Extraordinary house for a vacation to remember!
My goodness - where do I begin? We just returned from a family reunion vacation in this gorgeous, spacious, comfortable house and haven't stopped smiling yet! Family of 9 ranged from grandparents in their 80's with mobility issues (cannot climb stairs) to teen granddaughters and even 2 small family dogs. We never felt cramped - there are so many social spaces in the house to sit, curl up or play a game of cards.
The location of the house is perfect - a short drive to several beaches, right on the salt pond (with a great dock to watch the jellyfish or go on a quick kayak paddle!) and yet secluded and peaceful. We lucked out with perfect weather all week, and took full advantage of the beaches and a quick (30 min.) daytrip into Westerly/Watch Hill.
The house is well-equipped and beautifully decorated without being fussy - comfortable beds, sofas that invite you in for an afternoon snooze, and a beautiful kitchen that has everything you need to prepare a big family meal after a day at the beach. The elevator that runs from the garage on the ground floor to the top floor made it possible for our 3 generations to have a wonderful week together. There is an outdoor shower to wash off the beach sand, plenty of parking and terrific wi-fi. The central air conditioning was so handy for the 1 day when the humidity really moved in, and kept the house cool and comfortable. There is even a dog bed!
As I think about the lovely, relaxing mornings when we lingered over coffee on the top deck, I am so happy that we were able to spend a week in this very special house. This house is truly a gem!!
We are so glad you enjoyed our home!
This home was even lovelier than the pictures! We liked the proximity to the beach, shops, and the fabulous Charlestown Bakery. (Best coffee cake!) We rented this home because we needed wheelchair accessibility and the elevator was essential. Our only issue was that the access from the garage into the home was not truly accessible and had the potential to put a damper on our vacation. However, calls were made to the owner and the caretaker and the very next morning-a Sunday; a carpenter was sent to build a ramp! Excellent customer service! Every possible amenity was supplied, and our family enjoyed the time we spent here. Highly recommended.
We were so glad to work things out with the ramp. None of our wheelchair renters had told us this was a problem before, or we would have solved it beforehand. So you helped us serve future clients in chairs as well! Glad the rest of your week was a success. Come back any time!
Excellent rental- space for everyone!
The property is nicely situated with a lovely view of the salt pond. It is private yet close to markets, restaurants, the highway and of course beaches. The house is well maintained and tastefully decorated. It was the perfect size for our vacation and everyone had their own space and we could easily gather and be comfortable. As a group we enjoyed daily time on the deck off the master and upstairs living room. With the nice weather, we often grilled and dined outside. The owners were lovely to work with while we made our vacation preparations. The house is truly a cut above some other rentals.
We are so pleased you enjoyed every aspect of our getaway -- glad we could share it with you!
Our quiet beach house is only half an hour away from historic Mystic Seaport and Mystic Acquarium to the south, and the luxuries and shopping of Newport, RI to the north. Biking on level roads is excellent. Buy fresh lobsters straight off the fishing boats just 20 minutes away at Point Judith.
