Once again a perfect vacation!

  • 5 of 5

This is our second time staying at Creekside; we loved it once again! Our kids love the creek - they played in it on the days we weren't out and about exploring Black Mountain / Asheville. The cabin itself is extremely clean and well-appointed. Mike has thought through every detail a guest would need. We hope to be back for the third time next fall or winter!

GREAT EXPERIENCE, WELL-STOCKED AND CLEAN CABIN, WONDERFUL SETTING!

  • 4 of 5

My wife and I are back from a GREAT first week spent at Creekside. The cabin is well situated for privacy, and the creek provides a burble soothes. It was clean, well appointed with cook and dishware, and stocked with sugar, salt, pepper and some spices - even a muffin mix! All modern conveniences are there, including DirecTV and Internet (which we used sparingly since we wanted downtime). Cell reception was better than I have at home! Important to us is comfortable bedding. The king-size bed has a conventional mattress with memory foam topper, so no bad-bedding aches. There’s a 3-person hot tub. The cabin has central heat and air, and a woodstove. Kids will love this place, and it is pet-friendly!

After Route 9, roads leading to Creekside are private and gravel, fairly well maintained but can be washboard-like or have potholes. The adventure includes fairly steep ascents and descents that tested our little 1.6-liter stick-shift, front wheel drive Nissan Versa but should be no problem in mild months for small to large FWD SUVs or all-wheel or 4-wheel drive. In a small or compact FWD car, the key is not to pause but to give it the gas in advance of climbing the hill. In winter, 4WD or AWD should be REQUIRED for safety. Expect your vehicle to get dusty.

Members of your party should be average to above average physical fitness. It’s 15 steps down to the cabin’s deck from the parking and 14 or so more steps to the creek bank. The creek bank is largely gravel requiring good coordination. I found muscles I had not used awhile. The hot tub is very helpful! The Guest Book reveals a couple who spent their 50th anniversary in the cabin, but High Rock Rentals also has easier access cabins available.

Staying at High Rock Rentals is like becoming part of Mike and Beverly’s dream. They started 12 years ago with raw acreage, then slowly have added roads, infrastructure and cabins to the property over the years.

Construction activity on a new cabin is the ONLY reason I rated Creekside at four stars. We arrived to tranquility on Saturday, but the work week was filled with chainsaw and construction noise. Fortunately for you, the new cabin was nearly completed by the end of our stay.

Call Mike after arrival and invite him to stop by. Guests are not “bothered,” as he put it, unless they seek interaction. It’s fun to find out about this beautiful property and the surrounding area. His visit was a highlight of our stay.

We felt so comfy we did NOTHING all week!

Creekside was heavenly. AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME pretty much sums it up!

The privacy of Creekside and its setting was absolutely perfect for us and our 2 golden labs. The spotlessly clean home is perfectly decorated with all the needed amenities, and the creek with its fire pit and hiking trails provide the most relaxing environment anyone could ever hope for in the mountains. We enthusiastically recommend Creekside to anyone looking for the perfect vacation getaway!

Had a fabulous week @ Creekside! We loved the stream and small waterfalls. I was able to paint some watercolors sitting by the stream. A kid and dog could spend the entire day in that stream! After site seeing all day we couldn't wait to return to Creekside and relax. The cabin is very well equipped and we cooked a few meals there to save money on dining out. The grocery store is nearby and Black Mountain is a wonderful quiet genuine town. Not full of big box stores! The owner is very accommodating. We had to change our dates and he made everything easy. We hope to return next year. Thank you Mike!

Awesome as always!

Every year, my family of five looks for the perfect cabin getaway. We've stayed at at least a dozen cabins in the Asheville greater area over the years. But nothing provides a better experience than what Highrock Rentals offers, and our stay at Creekside re-affirmed are need to search no further than these private cabins.

We have a newborn, 3-year-old and a 5-year-old, so we've become pretty high maintenance travelers. We need room to put a pack-and-play, access to endless amounts of local double IPAs, recreation that doesn't require the two hour process of lugging everyone into the car, and enough space where my wife and I can put the kids down to bed and enjoy the cabin's surroundings and amenities (playing cribbage on the deck, listening to cicadas from the hot tub, cooking a nice dinner, etc.). Creekside was the perfect stay for us.

The kids couldn't get enough of the creek, and it was so fun watching them play from the rockers on the deck. They loved the local trails, and I was able to take the older kids hiking almost every morning just out the door from our cabin. My wife loved the cleanliness, quiet and peacefulness of the area. I love the proximity to Asheville and the greater blue ridge activities (Graveyard fields, Craggy Gardens, WNC Nature Center, etc.).

We're done spending hours of research looking around for the perfect cabin - Creekside may have just become our annual family vacation tradition.

P.S. The owners of these cabins go out of their way to make your experience great too. In our rush to leave on our final day staying there, I left some of my clothes at the cabin. Within a few weeks, Mike mailed them back to me with a thank you note!

Beautiful location, lovely house with everything one could possibly need for a fabulous vacation.

  • 5 of 5

WOW! This is a fantastic house. Everything you could possibly want/need is at your fingertips. It was as if we had been living there for years, everything was perfectly located for ease and convenience. The creek behind the house is incredible! Our yellow lab couldn't get enough of playing in the pools and scampering up the little falls. So much fun for all. The really cool thing about the location is that it's convenient to everything. The town of Black Mountain is adorable with some excellent restaurants. If you want to stay in and hang out at the house....great. If you want to go explore....off you go. We stayed for two weeks and didn't see/do it all. Of course there were quite a few days just hanging at the house. Did I mention the BBQ at Phil's BBQ in Black Mountain? We just loved the house and location. The only thing missing was a bear...and we looked. Suggestion, bring beach towels for frequent creek use.
