Austin Studio Rental Photos and Description

Studio, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2)

Come stay on our urban 'ranchette' in the heart of the city! Look out the window and see our three Arabian ponies grazing peacefully, oblivious to the hustle and flow of city life. Hang out on our second story deck, nestled amongst the 300 year old live oaks, and sip margaritas. Party on Sixth Street or in the Warehouse District, shop Soco, attend Austin City Limits Festival, SXSW or Formula 1, sample all the wonderful cultural delights that make Austin one of the coolest, hippest cities in the world, then come home to our little 'oasis', kick back, relax and recharge your batteries so you can enjoy all that Austin has to offer. 7 acres, nestled into the countryside, the kind of place you might drive past and never see. 'Oasis' is the word our friends use the most when describing the unique property we call 'home'. So come and stay at our oasis and replenish yourself while having the time of your life in the city so many have grown to love, the city we are fortunate enough to call home, Austin. The property is only 8 miles from the heart of the city and 10 miles from the Austin Bergstrom Airport.

Our treehouse apartment is as unique and cool as Austin. Lovingly rebuilt and renovated by the owners, this little cottage retreat is as hip as Austin, and has as much personality. Small yet functional, close to the city yet quiet and secluded. Tastefully furnished with great attention to detail. Comfortable top quality queen bed, memory foam topper, down comforter, Egyptian cotton percale sheets, hypo-allergenic pillows and other bedding. Massive 9' glass doors look out into the live oaks and open onto the beautiful deck in the trees. Screen doors open up to let in the breeze on a spring or fall day, whisper-quiet central heat and a/c keep you comfortable on days the weather's not so accomodating.

Granite countertops in the beautiful, modern kitchen provide the work space for you to prepare meals should you decide to eat in. All dishes and utensils are provided and the kitchen is fully functional and stocked with built in microwave, stainless appliances, full size stove and fridge, complete with ice maker. And clean up is easy with the under counter sink and top of the line faucet. Everything you need is right there. Fresh coffee beans and an assortment of tea are also provided.

If you're going out on the town, take a quick shower and dry off with our large, luxurious towels. Our bathroom is fully equipped and as tastefully done as any in a luxury hotel. Soothing colors, travertine tile counters, the very best fixtures. Comes complete with all the necessities and conveniences of home. Or if you're staying in, take a long soak in our full-size tub before sipping a glass of wine amongst the live oaks on the private deck. Whatever you choose. Just remember, it's all about you.

Now, in the interest of full disclosure, we want to tell you a little more about our property. The last thing we would want is for you to be unpleasantly surprised by any part of your stay with us.

Our property is located approximately 8 miles from the State Capitol Building which is at the center of downtown Austin. While we are located on South Congress Avenue, our property is in an area that is somewhat more industrial but the process of transitioning into more residential is in process. In fact, our neighbor to the south is an auto impound facility and to the north, a mini-warehouse storage facility. Immediately in front of and behind our home, the land is presently unimproved and change is coming all too quickly. For some, this might be 'off-putting'. For us, it's just another of the unique qualities that make Austin what it is. In fact, in 2007, our local paper, the Austin American Statesman, was considering whether or not to feature our home as one of the 'coolest' homes in Austin. We were a little apprehensive and didn't know if others would love the place as we do. But the reporter, after spending the day interviewing us for the article, and the photographer who did the photo shoot, both proclaimed our property 'their favorite' of all the cool and interesting homes they had featured. The Statesman did decide to feature us in their paper, and the Associated Press picked up the article and sent it out in national distribution.

Keywords: Country living in the city, unique, peaceful, charming, detached guest house retreat, studio apartment, open floor plan, light filled, comfy, cozy and inspiring!

About Roni Clark

Chris and Roni Clark have lived in Austin for 30 years. They have three rescued arabian horses that live on site along with their miniature schnauzer, Maggie Mae and kitty, aka Kit-Kat. They own and manage commercial property in central Austin and spend much of their free time working on their 7 acres in south Austin, training and riding horses, playing music and playing with cars.

Roni Clark purchased this studio in 1999

Why Roni Clark chose Texas Hill Country

We didn't choose to buy this property, it chose us. From the first time we saw the huge front porch, sat and felt the breeze on a spring day as we looked out over the front 2 acre field of wildflowers, we were hooked. The minute we opened the massive 8' front entry doors, saw the hand tooled brass hinges and doorknobs, we knew we wanted this place and that we were meant for one another. And having 7 acres on Congress Avenue has been like having a small slice of the country right here in the city. Since we purchased this property in 1999, we've put our creative energy to work, improving every aspect of the property and creating a living environment that causes us to 'pinch ourselves' almost daily, just to make sure it's real. And now, we want to share some of this experience with others.

What makes this studio unique

Privacy. Peaceful. Introspective. We've gone to great lengths to make our guesthouse as peaceful, private and reflective as possible. Having everything you need and want in an efficient space, having access to everything Austin has to offer, yet having the time and place to relax, recharge and reflect. We set out to create a retreat, and that's exactly what it is. A retreat from the world, or just a respite from the lights and music and activities of Austin, we hope you will come and stay and enjoy. Additional note: This property does not have a television, however, it does have WIFI access.

Amazing Place...Truly an Escape from the Concrete Jungle

  • 5 of 5

My girlfriend (Sarah) and I absolutely loved this place! Toni and Chris were very sweet and more than generous with anything that we may have needed. The property itself is amazing, it's the type of property you can tell has been a labor of love. The trees that provide this cascading shade, the quiet of being set back far from the roads, the beautiful horses and tree house. The tree house is perfect, the decor makes you feel right at home. If for whatever reason you're looking to do more of the downtown activities, it's more than close enough to downtown (in my opinion) just a short drive away. Don't hesitate to stay here, you'll regret it if you do.

Quick July 4th getaway!!

  • 5 of 5

No words could express how easy Chris and Roni made this trip for my boyfriend and I. This place beats any hotel experience. I have never returned home so relaxed than when I did from the Tree House. The tree house is setup in an amazing tree with branches stretched all around the porch. It was great sipping coffee on the balcony porch and glancing over to see Roni feeding her horses or walking them to their afternoon pasture for grazing. This place is very updated and so clean you would never even suspect anyone has stayed there in the past. The bed is comfy and the whole place is decorated in warm details that express the ranchette and Austin, so inviting!! They have fully stocked kitchen and provide coffee and tea and waters.

The property is minutes from downtown and is easy to get in and out from the main road. There is an HEB right around the corner.

WOW! this place is amazing!!!

  • 5 of 5

Talk about a Texas welcome!!! We were treated with Southern hospitality from the moment we booked our trip. Roni & Chris were such gracious hosts, making sure that our experience on their gorgeous property exceeded our expectations. This is the perfect location, south of the crazy hustle & bustle of traffic and yet minutes to shopping & restaurants. We visited Austin for Motogp races at COTA but enjoyed the quiet, peace and tranquility in the treehouse and on the deck. Getting to eat breakfast while watching horses graze was amazing. We both got to enjoy our type of "horsepower" during this stay.

We will definitely be returning the next time we are in Austin!

For starters the owners of this guest house are marvelous people. Amazing place to enjoy austin but still feel like a home away from home. Morning and night view are best on the porch!!

Fabulous & Luxurious!

  • 5 of 5

Huge thanks to Roni and Chris for the super welcome ~ which began by Chris kindly helping us find the entrance to the Ranchette in his golf cart! Our host could not have been nicer! The whole Ranchette experience was perfect. This place is very secluded and quiet. Coming out in the morning to have coffee on the porch was great! You feel like you are alone even though there are other residents on these seven acres. The bed is very comfortable. There is a couch and a reading chair which is perfect if you just want to lounge around. The kitchen and bathroom have everything. Usually when staying in places like these, we say things like, "Wouldn't it be nice if they included ...?" Not once at the Ranchette! Never did we feel we wanted for anything at all! This Ranchette is spotless and inviting. We will definitely return. Thanks again to Chris and Roni for having this hideway so very close to Austin Central!

Little bit of heaven near the heart of Austin!!

  • 5 of 5

What did you most enjoy about your stay?

-The privacy, extremely clean, luxurious accomodations, plenty of added aminities (water bottles, juice, gourmet coffee and tea), full kitchen and utensils, pots and pans if needed, very quaint tree house, relaxing and private get away....and Chris and Roni were always available if you needed them.

Would you come back again or recommend this home to a friend?

-Yes, absolutely we would return in a heart beat....we felt safe! It was nice and peaceful in the mornings and evenings out on the porch. We have already recommended it to many family and friends. This will be our main place to stay from now on when visiting the area.

Was the property a good fit for the group you were traveling with?

-This house is not for a group, but it was perfect for us as a couple. The rest of our group was in local hotels and we had no interest in staying at a local hotel.

What nearby activities, attractions, or restaurants did you enjoy?

-It was just a few miles/minutes from downtown Austin and a short drive to the 360 Amphitheater. We went to the Austin Panic Room, 6th street bar hoping, Gourdoughs Public house, local various food trailers, shopping on South Congress and the Willie Nelson and Friends 4th of July Picnic at the Amphitheater.

What did the owner or property manager do to provide great customer service?

-We had an issue with the room at 3am and he was more than accomodating to come and resolve the issue immediately.

Was there anything we did not like or agree with?

-Room is advertised as being on 7 acres, but we didn't have access to use anything on the property to besides our room (tree house). The tree house, the occupied two house apartment on the property (right next door) and the owners house were all located on approximately one acre, the rest of the property was horse pastures and a barn. We were not spread out like we thought we would be on the 7 acres. Even though it was not advertised, it would have been nice to be able to use the swimming pool, perhaps during certain times at the owners discretion.
