About Rod Archer

We live in Colorado and love to spend time in the Mountains fishing, hiking and enjoying nature.

Rod Archer purchased this cabin in 2013

Why Rod Archer chose Rocky Mountain National Park

For years we have been renting places near Grand Lake for our vacations. We decided that the only place we wanted to own a cabin was on Sun Valley Lake. This lake is the perfect size and a great location in one of the most beautiful places in the U.S.

What makes this cabin unique

A beautiful cabin in a tranquil, breathtaking setting with more activities nearby than you can do in a month. Hike, bike, ATV and snowmobile all from your front door. You are walking distance to Arapahoe National Forest and the Colorado River Headwaters for some great fly-fishing. Winding River Resort is nearby and features horseback riding and other resort activities. On the Trail rentals is also a short walk away featuring ATV rentals in summer and snowmobiles in winter. The cabin is very close to the quaint, historic town of Grand Lake with lots of great restaurants and family activities. Shadow Mountain Lake and Lake Granby are minutes away with fantastic fishing and water sports. You will be easy driving distance to skiing, golf, river rafting, ballooning and countless other winter and summer activities.

Great house for a couple families to share

  • 5 of 5

We had 2 families staying here and it worked great. Couple nice bedrooms for the parents, and then another bedroom (with bunks) and loft space and couches for kids. The large kitchen and living room are a great place to gather.

The location is ideal for snowmobiling or ATVs, and about as close to the west entrance of RMNP as you can get. The lot was quite private and very pretty. Right on the lake. Supposed to be fishable in summer, but only a few feet deep so dead in the winter while we were there.

Wonderful Mountain Cabin

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our vacation at this cabin very much! We had booked the cabin for 4 nights at first, and then extended our stay by 2 additional nights - because we did not want to leave! So we (4 adults) stayed there for a total of 6 nights and we had a great time.

The listing description is accurate and more than met our expectations.

The cabin is perfectly located not far from the Rocky Mountain National Park entrance and at the same time just minutes away from the town of Grand Lake, providing the "best of both worlds": nature, scenery and wildlife at the Park, and shopping, dining and the lake at the town. We were there during winter so we went skiing, rented snow mobiles (very close to the cabin), and went tubing. We had more activities on the agenda but preferred to hang out at the comfortable, cosy and nice cabin to relax.

The cabin is spacious, clean and well maintained and has everything you need for a relaxing day: games, cards, music, movies, books....and comfortable sofas in front of the fireplace.

And if you need anything else, it is there also: from batteries all sizes, plastic bags, washer & dryer, all kitchen utensils you can think of, blankets, tea, to shower gel, snow shoes and space heaters! We had rented vacation cabins before but were really impressed about how well equiped this cabin is.

My wife really liked the porch in the back: plenty of space to sit, to BBQ, or to watch the birds at the bird feeder. The lake is just a few feet away from the porch, and we saw two boats - we can't wait to come back in summer to take them out on the lake for some fishing!

The owner is super responsive with a great customer service attitude: we had a couple of questions and within minutes his email reply came in. We got the impression that he really cares about us enjoying ourselves and wanted to make sure that we have a great time - much appreciated!

In summary this was a perfect vacation for us. We came here to enjoy some winter activites and to relax, to get away from the hectic city and work life, and we found exactly that at the cabin. We will definitely come back, can't wait to find out how beautiful it is there in spring or fall.

The mountain cabin you've been dreaming of

  • 5 of 5

Moosetracks Manor is everything the pictures show. Picturesque scenery on a beautiful lake just outside the gates of Rocky Mountain National Park. Come home from your epic day hike to a genuine luxury cabin with rustic aesthetics. Two porches/decks and a dock on the water are just the place to relax. The cabin is outfitted with all the necessities: two boats, a gas grill, a kitchen with separate range, a great tv with satellite, and a stocked game cabinet. There is even a steam shower in the downstairs bathroom. Does it get better? We had an awesome time.

A peaceful, relaxing and most enjoyable stay

  • 5 of 5

A little bit of heaven in Colorado is a place which encompasses everything you can enjoy in a getaway. The owners have thought of everything, from providing a variety of family games, movies and tv to boats and fishing poles for the lake. The dock is absolutely, hands down, the largest and well maintained on the lake. The cabin itself is immaculate with exquisite decorations that give you a true cozy log cabin feel and a fully equipped kitchen of dishes/pots/pans/spices/coffee/tea with items needed to grill out for lots of guests, in case you want to forego a dirty kitchen to clean. Everything needed is in it's place and easy to find. It's a very short drive to Grand Lake and state park, where you can enjoy shopping, activities and restaurants. An entire moose family; mom, dad and baby, visited everyday and we enjoyed hours of watching them only feet away from the spacious back porch. There were also visits from hummingbirds, birds, baby chipmunks, a fox and much more. We enjoyed our stay so much that we plan to make this a yearly trip. The owner is fantastic to work with and really goes out of his way to make your stay enjoyable.

Owner's Response: Thank you! We are very proud of our mountain home and it is gratifying to know that the work we put into it is appreciated by our guests. We are continuing to find ways to make the experience even better. We look forward to seeing you again next year. Keep in mind that our lakeside home is also a great location for a winter getaway. We are walking distance from a great snowmobile facility, and the snowshoeing and nordic skiing are fantastic all around our location.
