Overview

About the property

Rose Cottage sleeps 6 adults in beds and 2 children under the age of 8 on inflatable mattresses. New hardwood floors throughout.

The cottage sits in a great location in the historic downtown Victorian district, voted one of the nation's 'Top 10 Great Neighbourhoods of 2014' by the American Planning Association. This area is also known as the up-and-coming SOFO district (South of Forsyth Park) with trendy bars and restaurants opening up in the area. The hideaway is a wonderful place for romance, friendship, meditation, creativity, calm and rest, and a great base for fun and adventure - just as a cottage should be!

The front porch, with its new, big rocking chair and swing, overlooks a tiny and cute picket-fence enclosed garden with roses, lemon and palm trees. The first floor, with the master bedroom (king-sized bed) and full bath, is convenient with a fully equipped kitchen, new French country dining table with chairs and a bench to seat six adults, and office area. Secure WiFi and cable are provided. The cozy and inviting living room is perfect for playing games, watching TV, practicing yoga (mat provided), or hanging out together. Upstairs there are two bedrooms with quaint slanted roofs, new queen-sized beds, a full bath, and full sized washer/dryer. Out back is a beautiful private courtyard with a billowy-curtained gazebo, more roses, bougainvilleas, a kumquat tree and some jasmine, outdoor furniture and a gas BBQ grill. Just outside the courtyard are two private off-street parking spaces.

This 1200 square foot bright and airy cottage (with heat and air-conditioning) is well-equipped with basic staples to prepare a home cooked meal. Here are some more details for your stay:

Savannah has one of the most unique and admired urban designs in the world and is a runner’s and walker’s dream as the historic district amounts to just about 2.5 square miles. To top it off, the weather is amenable all year round!

Pull on those walking shoes and absorb the history of this stunningly beautiful place! Bring a book and picnic in one of the 24 historic squares that are featured in memorable books and movies. Dessert could be some melt-in-your-mouth pralines you picked up fresh at the riverfront. Or just sit on a bench and soak it all in.

Alert: You will get a workout from looking up, down, front, back, and sideways at the elegant architecture and lush gardens that are simply… just there…And you might want to stretch to touch that dripping Spanish moss and bend to smell all those flowers.

About Kelly

Kelly manages Rose Cottage for the owners who keep it as their winter home. They fell in love with Savannah and all it has to offer. Every day here is an adventure for them!

Kelly purchased this cottage in 2013

Why Kelly chose Savannah

It is a lovely home in a great location, with lots of space for family and friends, and enough gardening to keep us happy.

What makes this cottage unique

Savannah has a unique 'feeling' to it - a charming village with all the amenities of a big city. The port, the schools, the businesses all contribute to its vibrancy. People are friendly, the historic district is enjoying major restoration, the gorgeous homes are being refreshed and filled with families and students.

It is a pleasure to wake in Rose Cottage with the songbirds outside the windows and the fragrance from the garden. A coffee and a book on the front porch, saying good-morning to the passers-by... all set us up before heading out for yet another interesting day of sightseeing or shopping. Civil war buffs have tons to explore; Bonaventure Cemetery is a must visit; Tybee Island and the intervening islands are so close; music, art, local beers and gourmet cuisine are readily available. In the evening, a drink on the porch, a BBQ in the backyard, and a meal in the screened gazebo are a perfect end to the day.

And - no worries about parking: private parking is a rarity in the city; to have two spaces even rarer.

disappointed in the area home is located

  • 2 of 5

First off I want to say Kelly, the manager, was very nice and offered to move us, however, we would have to be moved twice and we were there for only 3 days.

I will say this about the cottage, home was pretty much as described inside, however, there is a reason there is no home pictures on the left side of the home. This is because there is no home!!! There is a very close apartment building located next to Rose Cottage and another Apartment building on the other side of that apartment building . Unfortunately a few of the tenants used very crude cursive language when talking to others that either lived at the apartment next door or were visiting them. The wonderful reviews that talked about all the close restaurants and a Kroger store two blocks away must have not noticed the Kroger store had a security guard for safety purposes and the businesses close by all had bars on their doors and windows. A few blocks sometimes makes a huge difference in your feelings of being in a safe area of town. Our daughter's family was staying in Savannah also

. We had hoped our 22 year old Granddaughter could walk and meet up with the family members in a safe environment. Unfortunately this was not possible as the area around the cottage did not give any of us a protected and safe feeling.

There is a very nice shopping area with approximately 2.5 miles from the Rose Cottage.

I usually do not write negative reviews and do not mean for this review to be completely negative therefore I am trying to be fair with my assessment. I just know I would have liked to know prior to making my reservations a bit more about this particular area of Savannah. Obviously many others that wrote great reviews found the home to be convenient and never said a word about the safety issues that I found to be a problem. Perhaps others just never wrote a review. I hope my review helps someone when making their choice for the perfect home when planning a vacation.

Wonderful home! Great stay.

  • 4 of 5

This home is wonderful. The home was spotless, welcoming and as pretty as the pictures depict. We were a short walk from a grocery and Forsyth Park. There was always parking on the street and in the lane. We enjoyed e porch swing.. having coffee outside most mornings.

Definitely recommend it!

Great family get away

  • 4 of 5

The Rose Cottage was perfect for family-friend get away. We had 3 couples and 2 toddlers. It was a cozy fit, but it was just what we needed. The back yard was perfect for catching up after a day in Savannah. It is really close to a Kroger. It was easy to walk to all of the attractions, shopping, and restaurants that we wanted to go to.

If I can give one piece of feedback, it would have been nice to know that increased rental price for that weekend ahead of time. I did see the listing says that your prices are subjected to change based on events/holidays. Something to consider if VRBO has the feature, is to show the price for the days selected. It was a little bit of a surprise to find out our 2 day stay was $200.00 more once I had already submitted a payment.

Beautiful getaway!

  • 4 of 5

My husband planned a get away trip to Savannah for our two daughter's and me. Rose Cottage was the perfect place to stay! The home was beautifully decorated, spacious and in a great location. We had a wonderful time on our first visit to Savannah and the accommodations added to the trip's enjoyment. Jackie, Erica and Emma

Beautiful property

  • 4 of 5

It was a great little house. Unfortunately, the only thing that I felt underimpressed with is the agency who manages this property. Engel& Voelkers usually prides itself with their upscale real estatet business standards, but not once has anybody checked in with us. The yard needs maintainance so I had to cut back a hedge to be able to pass by on our way in and out of the back yard. The grill was beyond reasonably dirty. So we decided not to grill as we originally planned. Shows poor cleaning service. Other than that this is a cute gem that offers a great vacation spot. Savannah is one amazing city and we would return to this cottage anytime again. The smell of flowers sourrounding the porch was devine.

Savannah Music Fest Get Away.

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this wonderful little house. Clean, well maintained, fully outfitted, everything you could possibly need was provided. Loved relaxing on the front porch and grilling out by the back deck. Grocery store 2 blocks away, 15 minute walk to Bay Street/River street, Perfect, we came with friends and family visiting from Ireland for the Savannah Music Festival, would recommend and be happy to stay again.

Rose Cottage sits in a fabulous location in the historic downtown Victorian District near Forsyth Park with its Saturday farmer's market, festivals, weddings, live music, a cafe, tennis, and basketball courts. Famous and infamous historical homes abound in this area, along with SCAD buildings, the new law school, antique shops, the Design district, restaurants, and churches. Walk to the Juliette Gordon Low Home, a shrine for Girl Scouts from all over the world. Every Square is historic; read the information plaques, perch on a bench and contemplate postcard-style landscaping, or take a tour when you tire of walking around this stunningly beautiful city. A few more minutes and you are at Broughton, the main shopping street, and City Market where you can catch the Horse & Carriage tours and rub the bronze hat of Johnny Mercer. Another few minutes and you are at the Savannah River and Factors Walk with all it's glorious history and reverie. Not to mention great food, drink and shopping. The first weekend of the month there is live music and artisans selling their wares along the riverfront. The folk festival and music festival are world-class.
