Overview

About the property

3 Bedroom, 2 bath, with master on main just 3 blks from Savannah's Forsyth Park

A convenient retreat, lush with foliage and garden areas, the Garden Cottage Near Forsyth sleeps 6 adults in beds and 2 children under the age of 8 on inflatable mattresses. Built in 2009 with many improvements since, the spacious cottage looks and feels like it was built in Victorian times -- except with the advantages of a newer home. For instance, the spacious and beautifully appointed master bedroom is on the first floor, adjacent to a full bath with double vanities.

Located in Savannah's historic Victorian District, the Garden Cottage is convenient to parks, squares, cafes, restaurants, the library,, fancy hotels & much more. Walk 2 blks to the 22-acre Forsyth Park, with its famous fountain, fragrance garden, arboretum, theatre shell, playground and casual restaurant, operated by the esteemed Mansion on Forsyth hotel.

The cottage sits in a great location in the historic downtown Victorian district, hideaway is a wonderful place for romance, friendship, meditation, creativity, calm and rest, and a great base for fun and adventure.

The front porch, with its classic swing, overlooks a tiny and cute picket-fence enclosed garden with roses, lemon and palm trees. The first floor, with the master bedroom (king-sized bed) and full bath, is convenient with a fully equipped kitchen, new French country dining table with chairs and a bench to seat six adults. Secure WiFi and cable are provided.

The living room is perfect for playing games, watching TV, or hanging out together. Upstairs there are two bedrooms with quaint slanted roofs, queen-sized beds, a full bath, and full sized washer/dryer. Out back is a private courtyard and gazebo, outdoor furniture and a gas BBQ grill. Just outside the courtyard are two private off-street parking spaces.

Savannah has one of the most unique and admired urban designs in the world and is a runner’s and walker’s dream as the historic district amounts to just about 2.5 square miles. To top it off, the weather is amenable all year round!

The owner, Holly, purchased the home in 2017 and gave it the Garden Cottage name. She says, "I am in love with Savannah. The history, the beauty, the architecture, the people, and the food! Especially the food." You will find so many culinary gems here from Italian, to seafood, to down-home country-cooking.

But let's get back to Holly's story…

Holly's love affair with Savannah started when she moved here in 1987 at the age of 19. A few years later she moved to Atlanta due to life’s circumstances, but kept Savannah in her heart. Fast forward to 2010 when she came down here on several business trips and brought her fiancé with her. At that point he fell in love with Savannah as well, and they decided to get married here. Ever since they have been determined to have their own place here to enjoy, as well as share with others. And now their dream has come true with the Garden Cottage on Park Avenue! They hope you enjoy our home as much as they do!

After perusing many neighborhoods and looking at a

multitude of houses, they chose this house for several reasons. It’s charming, it’s big enough to accommodate their whole family, and it’s close to all that Savannah has to offer. You can take a nice stroll to Forsyth Park, walk to one of their favorite restaurants, or just meander through the many historical squares.

Holly and her husband have thoughtfully chosen pictures and décor that give their Garden Cottage a feel of the city, and they have tried to make it as comfortable and inviting as possible. While built in 2009, it has a definite Victorian “feel” and a cottage look. The neighborhood is Victorian -- and the Garden Cottage fits right in. They love sitting on the porch swing in the front; or relaxing under the covered patio in the back at night, with the beautiful hanging lights.

The house has 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and a fully-equipped kitchen. So, come and check it out. Bring your significant other for a romantic weekend getaway, gather the girls for a “girl’s trip”, or bring the whole family and stay the week! Don't worry about parking. We have off-street spaces in back! Or you can always park on our un-metered street.

Beautiful house near Forsyth Park

  • 5 of 5

This was a great property for our girls trip! Close to Forsyth Park and taking an Uber/lyft to downtown was super cheap because of how close it was. It was very well stocked with items you may need that you forgot to pack. It also is a few blocks away from a Kroger for anything you need that isn’t supplied (snacks, drinks, etc). If we come back we will definitely check for this property’s availablility first!

What a wonderful place to stay! Lots of room for the 6 of us...enough seating for all. Very neat and clean. Nice to have a parking space as well. Walking "downtown " was a pleasure. The city of Savannah is beautiful and we will be back.

Wonderful Home Base!

  • 5 of 5

6 women shared this space for 4 nights. We were in town for a half marathon. The house was clean, newer and in a relatively quiet neighborhood. We were very close to Forsyth park. Walk straight through the park (which is lively and lovely with its iconic fountain) to find yourself in historic Savannah. A round trip Uber to and from the river for my ID (yes, they still card at these bars even at my age) was about $10. But walking is easy too and you'll discover new things at every turn. The area around the cottage seemed to be a mix of college students, retired couples, long-term renters and fellow travelers. It felt more like a place to live than a vacation home. Do be careful with valuables, though. I had my passport overnighted and left in the mailbox, and by the time I got to it the package had been ripped open like someone was looking for cash. But they left the passport. I never felt unsafe but normal city common sense and safety should prevail.

We took advantage of some of the nearby restaurants (easy walks) and always felt like we with locals. The Sentient Bean has great coffee and healthy breakfasts with vegetarian and Vegan options. The Perch was a wonderful setting for happy hour, and we had some tasty craft beer at the white whale (we left an empty growler for the next guests to refill). Betty Bombers is a VFW and quite fun. They serve inexpensive beer and some great burgers - plus people watching. Though Savannah allows open containers, this neighbor does not, so keep 'em low. We also had some delicious barbeque and tacos just north of the cottage at Blowin' Smoke. Casual and fun.

If you want to cook, a large nice Krogers with a Starucks is 6 short blocks to the south. We didn't cook, but the kitchen was clean and well stocked. Check for spices and coffee filters before you buy your own. The beds were comfortable and there were plenty of pillows plus extra comforters. The front porch was a nice place to hang out after the half when we couldn't move but wanted to be outside, and the backyard is really pretty with the lights. The roses were in full bloom. There were plenty of board games and 4 nice televisions. Heat/air was a little finicky and shower curtain liner had a bit of mold; both issues were addressed with a phone call.

I'd highly recommend for someone looking for a great neighborhood vibe who enjoys walking. It was perfect for us. We met many amazing people at every turn. We'd love to go back!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much Molly for the fantastic review of The Garden Cottage in Savannah, Ga. We are located less than 5 minutes from Forsyth Park, which is the heart of the downtown. It's such a great City, with the ability to walk to the most awesome restaurants, bars, and shopping in the downtown area of Savannah. that's why I moved here from Ohio 6 years ago and will never go back! thank you again, Kelly (manager)

Owner's Response: Thank you Mary for the great review. The Garden Cottage is decorated with stylish, comfortable furniture and the outdoor garden area & front porch with a swing, make it fabulous, inside & out. We are less than a 5 minute walk from Forsyth Park where there is a free visitor's shuttle that has many stops in the Landmark and Victorian Historic Districts downtown. They are extending the hours and number of shuttles to accommodate the increased use, very soon. The best option to see just some of the beautiful sights of Savannah is to go to the middle of Forsyth Park and walk north along Bull Street. You will go through many of the historic squares (smaller parks) and great local shops and restaurants. It takes about 20- 30 minutes to walk all the way to River Street. Savannah is a special place! We appreciate your review Mary and you and your family are welcome back anytime! thank you for staying with us, Kelly (Manager)
