Quintessential Deer Isle home on desirable Dow Road with beautiful rolling laws, paths, and gardens. An 800 foot path to the shore leads you to a cove beach and boathouse (shared with neighboring house). A two person Kayak is available for your use. The main house was tastefully built about twenty-five years ago and replicates the original structure built around 1800 with central heated hardwood floors, classic design detail, and many 21st century appointments.
Having stayed in the area (at a hotel) before we pretty much knew the whereabouts. This time we decided to rent a house close to the beach for a few days. The location was close to the water and to all amenities offered at Deer Isle. The house is very well maintained. A minor plumbing issue was fixed immediately by the owners by arranging for a professional to come first thing in the morning.
The house offers privacy, quiet environment, easy access to the beach and an overall great experience.
We would recommend to anyone.
We needed to make very last-minute arrangements for a brief vacation in the Deer Isle/Stonington area, and we're extremely happy with our stay. The house was clean and comfortable with full amenities, great location for two teenagers, two parents, and a small dog, and easy to make arrangements with Steve via VRBO. Highly recommended.
Reasonably priced, gorgeous setting, comfortable and clean accommodations. I've already recommended it to friends back home and hope to return soon.
My husband, our little dog and I stayed here for a long weekend and it was a perfectly peaceful getaway. The cottage is nestled in the woods with a large yard (with apple trees!) and a really beautiful private path to the rocky beach. We felt right at home with everything we needed in a clean, simply decorated and well cared for house. Everything in the listing is completely accurate, but the stillness and quiet (such a contrast for us city dwellers), the sense of history, and the easy late-summer atmosphere cannot be described. We took a picnic to the beach, explored the tiny "town" and artists of Deer Isle and had a fabulous dinner at Whale's Rib. We also drove down to Stonington for dinner on the deck at Aragosta, a cone at Harbor Ice Cream, and took the mailboat over to Isle au Haut for a full day of hiking. The area is small, but there is a lot to do… or not do, if you'd like. Without a doubt, we will be back. Many thanks Steve and Kate!
There were only two of us so this cottage was plenty roomy for us. And such a quiet area for peaceful sleeping! Queen bed upstairs was very comfortable.
One disappointment was the ants (some with wings!) all over the main floor - we had to sweep multiple times per day just so we didn't have to look at them. Owners did have ant killer throughout which helped but left us with dead bugs throughout our visit. Thankfully the ants stayed on the main floor and left us alone upstairs where the bedroom was located.
Cottage was a bit musty too and we could barely open the front door but the high humidity and temps were a big factor during our visit.
Hard to beat Maine in August and this cottage was in a great location to get to Stonington and Blue Hill and all interesting spots in between!
