It's the perfect Hydra holiday house for extended families to share as there's plenty of space for everyone to spread out and not get on top of each other. Should you need even more space, please ask about the possibility of also renting the charming two bedroom house next door.
We offer a hotel standard of hospitality, professionalism, and friendly service. We want to reassure you that we will be on hand, and be available to help and guide you even before you arrive, so if you have any questions about what to expect, how to get here or other questions about the house or Hydra, please don't hesitate to ask. We live on the island and are available throughout your stay. What you see on our pages, and in our reviews, indicates the level of service and standard of accommodation we strive for. What you see is what we ensure you get.
Elegantly restored and modernised, this 200-year-old villa overlooks the sea, with wrap-around views of the village of Kamini and the countryside. The house sleeps 8-10 guests in spacious comfort on 3 floors (4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms), for a minimum of 7 nights.
Freddy's is a real home - Home to Dino and Trina Bradlee and their children. It contains many belongings that they have collected over the years and reflects their tastes. Dino meticulously ensures that everything is in perfect working order on the 'technical front' so the air-conditioning, plumbing, Wifi, etc, is always perfect. Trina has turned this house into a true home over the years, and as both are keen cooks, the kitchen is equipped to please even a 5-star chef. You'll find that rare combination of modern amenities and old world charm making Freddy's the perfect Hydra vacation house.
The house is furnished with antiques, original art, Italian beds and sofas for comfort and style. As the Bradlees know, some people want complete privacy to unwind and recharge their batteries and others welcome getting to know their hosts socially. Whatever your preference, your hosts are hospitable and helpful.
Welcome to Freddy's House!
Your holiday fun on Hydra will start as soon as you arrive in Hydra Port. Your hosts will be there to meet you, and will have arranged mules to transfer your cases to the house. Then you can either walk with them along the coast road, or if you've had a long journey, you may prefer a quick sea taxi ride to the picturesque Kamini Harbour.
From Kamini harbour, Freddy's House is a shady stroll under the pine trees, zig-zagging up the little lanes between the pretty village houses to reach your home-away-from-home. It's about 400 meter to Freddy's House from Kamini Harbour with approximately 100 gentle steps. The average person takes about 10 minutes to walk up. And when you want to head into Hydra Town, it will take the average person 10 minutes to walk through the winding streets to Hydra.
The Courtyard Garden
From the street you cross a small stone bridge into the courtyard garden. The courtyard is enclosed by a high wall for complete privacy. There are plenty of shady trees and a number of sitting areas for you to enjoy at different times of the day.
For cooking and dining out-of-doors under the moonlight and stars, there's an excellent wood-burning pizza oven and grill. To cool off during the heat of the day if you are sunbathing there is a screened off shower area in the corner.
The garden bedroom, which opens directly to the courtyard, is independent from the rest of the house. It is comfortably furnished with a queen-size double bed. It's a naturally cool room because of the meter thick walls and stone flooring with surrounding shady trees but there is a fan if necessary. The windows have wooden shutters and screens.
The Garden Bedroom's en-suite WC also doubles as the laundry room and you are welcome to use the washing machine and dryer during your stay.
A well equipped kitchen with everything in excellent order is essential when you rent a holiday home especially when it's a large house like Freddy's. Part of the fun of your Hydra holiday is shopping at the quaint grocers, bakers and butchers, then cooking at home for that perfect 'living the Hydra dream' experience. Freddy's kitchen will not disappoint.
You enter the main part of the house from the courtyard into the kitchen. To the side of the entrance there is an excellent place to hose off boots and walking shoes if you are staying on Hydra for a walking/trekking/hiking winter holiday. You will find plenty of coat hooks too for drying summer beach towels, or winter coats.
In the kitchen there is: a double marble sink, full size fridge/freezer, plus an under counter fridge, electric oven and stove, dishwasher, microwave, toaster, kettle, food-processor, coffee press and absolutely everything you need to create and serve a full dinner party.
The sitting room has a large L-shaped sofa, a wall-mounted, WiFi enabled wide-screen TV, Air conditioning, and also serves as an interior winter dining area.
Interior stairs lead to the first floor landing.
Upstairs, the very high, traditional painted wood ceilings combined with large windows create an exceptionally light and airy feeling. All the flooring is of traditional painted wood and there is ample wall lighting. Every bedroom in the house has excellent air-conditioning.
From the first floor landing, three doors lead to the two bedrooms on this floor and to the spacious family bathroom.
There is an extra long bath and a separate shower cubicle which is double the usual space! Marble topped vanity unit with hand basin, mirror, and toilet.
The Green Bedroom
The green bedroom has a new, super comfortable, king-sized bed. It is a very large room with air conditioning, a ceiling fan, internal wooden shutters and screens on all windows. The room has beautiful light and views from windows in three different directions.
The Yellow Bedroom has a queen-size bed, a ceiling fan, and giant windows with screens, and air-conditioning. One set of windows faces the sea and the other set overlooks the garden.
First Floor Covered Terrace
Both the Green bedroom and first floor landing have glazed, double doors onto the East facing, covered balcony terrace. There are outside steps between this terrace and the courtyard, so it is possible for people to come and go without disturbing anyone downstairs.
The covered terrace is a perfect spot for breakfast, to watch the rising sun, or to take in the beautiful views of the Saronic Gulf and the Peloponnese.
Stairs from the first floor landing lead to the, top floor Verani Bedroom.
The Verani Bedroom
This room, at the top of the house, has beautiful light, phenomenal views, a ceiling fan, and window screens, as well as air-conditioning. This huge top floor bedroom has a queen-sized bed and two very large, traditional antique daybeds. This room can accommodate 4 people. For flexibility, there are also a couple of fold-out single beds if children want to share the room.
The Verani En-suite shower room with toilet, hand basin, (with mirror) & shower.
The Verani Roof Terrace has incredible views and is totally private as it's not overlooked. The sunsets from this terrace are glorious so make sure you bring your cameras. Sun-worshippers who prefer not to be on the beach, will love this terrace.
For parents travelling with teenagers: the Verani Bedroom on the top floor is a firm favourite. Young adults and mature children will adore making the 'top of the house' their own! It can either be treated like their exclusive 'pad' or almost as a 'dormitory' for a week long sleep over.
Even the most demanding teenagers who can't be separated from their computers will be impressed with the very robust, hard-wired high speed internet Wi-Fi system that works smoothly and quickly in every room of the house, and all of the outdoor areas. And of course they will be able to play their music (not too loudly during siesta time please) without imposing on everyone else in the house.
Please be aware of the fact that the walls around the roof terrace are very low, young children should be supervised at all times to avoid any accidents. The door leading to the terrace has a lock, for the security of young children.
Of course, if there are couples holidaying together, the Verani will be equally popular as each couple will have their own space and privacy.
You might also like to know that we also own, and rent, another house on Hydra besides Freddy's. Nicaela's, Homeaway listing 4226665, is a truly beautiful 2 bedroom house very nearby Freddy's. If you are looking for a smaller house than Freddy's, Nicaela's would be ideal. If you are part of a larger party, in need of six private bedrooms, you might consider renting both Freddy's and Nicaelas together.
As Freddy's House is maintained to a very high standard, maid service is included once per week as part of the rental price. We can also arrange for additional maid service and babysitting if desired. In order to make your arrival as carefree as possible we stock the refrigerator with basics such as bottled water, milk, beer, wine, coffee, tea and cereal. After you arrive we will arrange for you to have your groceries delivered by donkey from any of the three local nearby markets.
We are boating enthusiasts - we offer a free afternoon boat excursion on our boat to everyone who books our house. We think seeing the island from the water is essential to complete the Hydra experience, and we enjoy getting to know our guests.

Freddy's has been lovingly owned and maintained by the same American family since 1964. My wife and I, and our twin boys, own and occupy several other houses on the island, and are always available to answer any questions and fix any problems immediately. We are happy to share our knowledge of the island, and show you our favorite swimming spots, tavernas, and cafes, as well as make introductions to make your stay on Hydra more enjoyable. After being here for 35+ years, we know just about everybody on the island- locals, as well as summer 'regulars'. We find that we really enjoy working with our guests to help them enjoy Hydra to the fullest, and enjoy helping our guests find the things they enjoy doing...whether it is boating, hiking, or dining. It gives us a lot of satisfaction to help our guests get the most out of their stay. Our twelve year old twin boys enjoy playing with the children of our guests, and showing them their favorite places to swim and play on the island.
Dino purchased this Villa in 1964
Why Dino chose Regional Unit of Islands
My Uncle Freddy bought our house in 1964 because of it's exceptional beauty, privacy, and location. Freddy's is up high enough to have spectacular views of the sea, as well as the 'peaks' of Hydra, yet still low enough to walk to and from the beach and the main port of Hydra with ease. Kaminia is considered by locals to be the nicest part of the island; it is quiet, and never overrun with tourists--even during high season, yet some of the better restaurants on Hydra are located within a few minutes walk from the house.
What makes this Villa unique
We give our guests a level of personal attention that no absentee owner could provide. We can help coordinate travel to and from Athens Airport to our front door. We meet our guests upon arrival to the island, arrange for donkey transportation of guests luggage to the house, and personally familiarize our guests with our home, and the island. We will show you our favorite restaurants and shops, and love to take our guests out on our personal boat for boat picnics. We speak English, French, and Italian, as well as Greek. Our trustworthy housekeeper Peppa has been taking care of our home for over 15 years, and is available as often as you like. We will advise you on expert medical care should the need arise.

People Get Freddy: A Sublime Retreat
Our hosts, Dino & Trina, provided excellent support and services throughout our vacation. Trina met us at the ferry with mules in tow. As we climbed the steps to the house, she pointed out points of interest and specific shops that we might find helpful. It was a quick, but thorough orientation to the island. Her warm and personable presence made us feel immediately welcomed. A few days later, Dino took a few of us on a boat ride to a spectacular swimming cove. We swam practically alone in the limpid Aegean waters. Since Dino has spent over 35 years on the island, he knows its history, topography, and culture. Sharing this unparalleled knowledge illuminated our understanding of Hydra’s uniqueness. Pepa, our housekeeper, was a complete joy, eager to assist and inform. Dino and Trina were responsive to any question or request we proposed. Upon departure, one of our party left her passport at the house. This wasn’t discovered until we were in Athens. She was able to reach Dino & Trina, who were then off on vacation, and they contacted Pepa who found the passport and delivered it to the ferry boat captain who then transported it to Athens. This incident exemplified the service and kindness we experienced.
Freddy’s House provided all the joys of home living in a thoroughly exotic setting. From its breathtaking views of the Aegean to its well equipped kitchen, living was easy. And although we had a party of seven, the home provided enough private places to escape and just think or read. In the evening, when we ate in, we always dined al fresco. It’s hard to express the joy of eating a grilled butterflied leg of lamb combined with a Greek salad and a much underrated bottle of Greek wine, while the sun is setting and the shades of light slowly change. The glow was within and without.
Finally, it was the Greek people themselves who made this trip so memorable. They were courteous, friendly, and accessible. We had the experience of dining at a cafe overlooking a remote beach when we realized that no one had a credit card to pay the check. As we explained the situation to the owner, thinking that we would spend the rest of the day washing dishes, she replied, “No problem. Come back tomorrow and you can pay me then.” This doesn’t happen in Manhattan.
All of these factors made this holiday so special. It's a collective aura that seeps into the soul and transports the willing to a place that cleanses and revitalizes.
I'm so glad that our house was perfect for your vacation. As we also have a large family, we understand the importance of having plenty of space to find privacy, yet also having areas where the whole family can get together. We were happy to help with returning Sara's passport. We are always happy to help in any way we can.
A relaxing holiday in a stunning house
We stayed for 12 days with our three teenage boys as well as extended family and friends. We totally fell in love with Hydra, Freddie's Place and our hosts. They made our stay smooth and we felt very welcome. The house was clean and in fact the owners cleaned it twice during our stay. The house and its views couldn't be more perfect. We are already looking at next year's calendar in order to return.
Comfortable house with breathtaking views
We had a wonderful stay while in Hydra for a wedding. The house is charming and was comfortable for our family of five. The views are breathtaking and the house is so well stocked with everything and anything you may need! Thank you Trina for your help with reservations and for your hospitality!
Thank you Laure for your lovely review of our house. I'm so glad that you had a nice stay. You and your family were perfect guests! We would be pleased to Welcome you back if you should ever come to Hydra again!
3 stories of elegant, understated bliss! arrived to an immaculate home, left with a one-of-a-kind vacation experience i would recommend to absolutely anyone. dino spared no effort in making us feel at home—even meeting us in port late at night after we missed our original ferry. the views are casually stunning, the courtyard is a masterpiece of relaxing vibes, and each and every room has been expertly brought into the 21st century. this is THE holiday you will remember forever.
Thank you very much, Marshall. You and your family were delightful guests. I especially enjoyed our deep sea swimming adventure!
Gorgeous and tranquil villa with stunning views!
We chose Freddy’s Villa based on the location close to various beaches, views, ample space, Kitchen & bathrooms and other amenities and reviews with favorable mentions of the host. After staying at Freddy’s villa we can comfortable say, we agree with those reviewers completely but the place is a lot more than the impression we got through the website.
Our hosts, Dino & Trina were prompt and professional in their responses and timeliness. Any arrangements Dino made, like the cab from Athens airport to Metochi that is then only a 30 minute boat ride on the mainland to Hydra, were thoroughly professional and comfortable. Trina met us at the port in Hydra and accompanied us to the villa giving a beautiful tour of the town as we walked. She pointed out the restaurants to try, paths to take and even introduced us to Maria & Demetri at the Four Corners Market, who couldn’t have been more helpful and hospitable (definitely get your groceries there)
The three storied villa is located perfectly an easy 10 minute stroll to the Kamini harbour and various locations where you can access the sea and more importantly to our favorite restaurant “To Pefkaki.” (Some of the best and most authentic food on the island) The kitchen on the ground floor is nicely stocked and has an adjacent lounging area. The first floor has two bedrooms and bath plus a covered patio with a dining table. The third floor has a large bedroom with bathroom and a deck and views from all rooms. The sun filled rooms are quiet and comfortable, bathrooms function to American standards with hot and cold water and are well stocked.
As if the comfortable stay and stunning views weren’t enough, the boat ride with Dino to Ermioni farmer’s market was a total treat, capped off by the refreshing swim in the Aegean on the way home!
Maintaining a fine balance between being good host and respecting our privacy and time, the stay at Freddy’s Villa was the centerpiece of our wonderful vacation.
Thank you for the wonderful review of Freddy's. It was our pleasure to host you and Reza, and we enjoyed having you as our guests. It's so nice to have guests who appreciate and enjoy Hydra as much as we do.
Should you return to Hydra, it would be lovely to see you again!
My family and I spent a wonderful week at Freddy's house on Hydra. The house is gorgeous, comfortable and clean and has amazing views of the Kamini village and the sea. We spent lots of time relaxing in the outdoor spaces and at the beautiful Kamini beach - a 10 minute walk down the hill.
We enjoyed the well stocked kitchen with great amenities for cooking at home and also ate out at the local taverns and restaurants at the Port.
We can't wait to visit again!
Thanks again Dino and Trina!!
I'm so glad that you had a nice vacation at Freddy's. Thank you for letting us know that you enjoyed the house.
Freddy's is located in the nicest part of Kaminia, which is the most beautiful residential area on Hydra. The beaches and restaurants near our house are some of the best on the island.
