From the island, stepping back on the lava rocks towards the house, feet now in the sand, looking back up at the Hokukano Bayhouse; you feel as if you are on stage as the custom stamped concrete stairs invite stadium seating view of where you stand. A great location for your special ritual or celebration; and a great home for your family vacation or intimate retreat getaway.
My family and I recently rented out the bayhouse for a weekend and hosted my wedding in the back area one of the nights we stayed - it was an absolute dream! Great location, beautiful ocean views, and a spacious home for our whole family (13 of us total) to stay. The only reason I am not rating it 5 stars is due to the fact we were frightened the first night staying there as we are from the mainland and we were not aware at how large the cock roaches are on the Big Island. We had a few living in our bathrooms! Other then that, we had a wonderful stay!
The house and property provided a perfect setting for our family wedding. The main bedrooms and bathrooms were enormous and well appointed. The lack of air conditioning was only a problem when humidity was high. The pool and grounds were lovely, and there was an abundance of kayaks and paddleboards available. Pua was a wonderful hostess, always available to answer questions and fix any minor problems quickly. Overall the house provided a magical place for wedding memories never to be forgotten.
After touring the Hokukano House in 2014, my husband and I decided to have our wedding here in June of 2016. We could not have made a better decision. Hokukano Bay Estate is simply GORGEOUS and our 100 guests fit perfectly. I am so thankful for the three day minimum because trust me, you'll not want to leave. Upon arrival, we all felt like we had entered into a private island oasis. The home, the staff (Rosi & Pua!), the gentle sunsets, the inviting waters, the tropical setting were all so special. We'll keep this visit in our hearts forever! Thank You Hokukano!
We rented this property for 4 days, for our daughter's wedding. It is so beautiful that we did not notice that there is only ONE bathroom in the main house, for use during a party. This became a real problem when it stopped working the morning of the wedding. The bathroom in the master bedroom was not working either. Roto-Rooter arrived just in time, but this is not an ideal setup for a large party.
We had a fantastic time with our one year old. We were greeted when we arrived and though there was always someone if we needed them, we were never bothered or interrupted, it was a very private stay. We did plenty of swimming and resting. The whole back of the house opens to the outside--with screens--so it was like living indoor outdoor. Any request we made--massage, boat, etc--was immediately responded to with kindness and perfect recommendations. The owner and his son and their staff are kind and accommodating, professional and welcoming. Whether it's a wedding and the ones you love or just an intimate vacation this is a special stay on the Big Island.
We can't say enough good things about our stay at Hokukano Bayhouse. The estate is absolutely picturesque and beautiful. It is immaculately kept by the staff (Cookie and Rosi) who are just the sweetest and most helpful people you could ever meet. We had our wedding reception at Hokukano Bayhouse and it was beyond our wildest dreams! We used the lawn to set up outdoor seating for dinner beneath the stars. There was plenty of space for guests as well as for us the get ready for the big day. Honestly, if you can manage it, stay at Hokukano...you won't be disappointed. Again, we have to thank Cookie, who was there to first show us the residence and then Rosi who was there when we finally checked in. They were beyond helpful and available for any questions we had during our stay. We can't wait to stay at Hokukano again soon (we hope!)!!!!
