ABOUT THE AREA: You will want to spend several days in beautiful Ouray County. Ouray, which is known as the "Switzerland of America," is nestled in a small valley with 360-degree views of 12,000-14,000 mountains. Ridgway, nicknamed the "Gateway to the San Juans," is just 10 miles from Ouray and is well-known as the place where the John Wayne movie "True Grit" was filmed. Many of the movie set's buildings are still used today by local businesses. These two historic towns offer a variety of activities: restaurants, shops, museums, galleries, hot springs pools, jeep rentals, hiking, fishing and boating -- the list goes on and on! Day trips to Silverton, Telluride and Durango are fun as well.
Ouray County is blessed with multiple hot springs pools, the most popular being the Ouray Hot Springs Pool right in town in Ouray, and Orvis Hot Springs which is located on Highway 550 midway between Ouray and Ridgway.
Ouray is also often called "The Jeeping Capital of the World" because of its many trails through the high country (rated easy to rugged), popular for 2-wheel and 4-wheel off road vehicles.
Golf is available at beautiful Divide Ranch Golf Club located on Log Hill Mesa just above Ridgway, offering panoramic mountain views. Telluride and Montrose also have golf courses.
Ouray and Ridgway both offer local markets, and you can find larger stores like City Market, Safeway, Target and Walmart in Montrose, a flat, easy drive 35 miles from Ouray, 25 miles from Ridgway.
No matter how long you decide to stay, you will find yourself wanting to come back again and again to Ouray County, one of the most beautiful places on earth!
Close enough to nearly all Ouray attractions to walk from, in the snow! Comfortable, quite and just what a small group or family need in the mountains!
The property location is in the heart of Ouray and a very short walking distance from most of the restaurants and shops (only 1 block away!)
Generally we had a good experience at this condo. It was comfortable and served most of our needs. We didn't have really major complaints but a few things could have been better. The kitchen was equipped enough for cooking but just barely. We would have liked to see a little more equipment in there (such as hot pads to pull things out of the oven). There was no dresser or place to put clothes in the master bedroom. Also the master bedroom had no window that opened; only a door to the balcony. The door didn't have a screen so we didn't like to keep it open all the time and it could get hot up there without ventilation.
The positives were a good mattress, comfortable couch, good TV and good WIFI. The location was nice just a half block off mainstreet.
We had a wonderful stay. I loved the townhome. It was in a great location. It was very quiet yet within walking distance to everything in town. The house was set up to make us as comfortable as possible. We clearly saw the little touches throughout the house that made the stay nicer (nicely stocked kitchen including spices, oils, and zip lock bags; several lawn chairs; fans; etc.). We also enjoyed the fire pit to just warm up at the end of the day and also cooked a couple meals on it. It was a beautiful space. I would highly recommend it to anyone staying for multiple days in Ouray.
The only small things that I could say that we would have loved to see: luggage rack to place bags on and hooks on the upstairs bathroom door (like the hooks on the downstairs bathroom) allowing for us to place towels we will re-use there. Both very minor things, but I just mention as I think they would be easy adds to make the place even more awesome for future guests.
Overall, we loved the place and will definitely look at renting it again in the future! Thanks for providing such a wonderful place for our stay!
