Something for Everyone
As advertised. What a fun and relaxing getaway just a stones throw from Chicago and the burbs. The secluded hunting lodge was perfect for our family of 7, with activities and amenities for all ages. Hiking, fishing (my 14 yo caught 5 bass in a manner of hours) and a small “petting zoo” on property. St Joseph, wine country and Lake Mich. beaches just moments away. Can’t wait to get back!
If I tell you that we loved it everyone will stay here!
Bill and Joanna were great hosts. They were very communicative and gave us a bunch of helpful tips for navigating the area.
A group of five friends and I stayed here for my friend's birthday party and we had a lot of fun at the lodge.
The bedrooms accommodated us all well with plenty of room. The kitchen and living areas were great for socializing. The dock, patio and porch area were phenomenal for hanging out and can fit plenty of people comfortably. The front of the house is amazing - the animals were memorable and the grounds are kept up really well
Check in and out were a breeze. We'll be back, probably with the same group of people because we all loved it so much.
My tip if you're staying here is to ask Bill for tips about the best restaurants and places to visit, and to find out about the driver he works with for his property. Your wine and brewery tours and late night excursions will be smooth if you go with his vetted people. He steered us toward the best lunch, wineries and dinner. It was a pleasure to meet him and stay at his property.
If you want to feel safe walking out at night onto a long, quiet driveway and see as many stars as can be seen at night, stay here. If you want to photograph the alpaca, it only gives you one chance. The rooster is no problem if you like morning coffee with sunrise light through the window. The small jacuzzi upstairs was a welcome relief after a day of walking in St Joe's.
My tips are to bring bug spray (it's wet in Michigan and you might walk through the grass by the animals), flip flops for short trips on either porch, a lantern or flashlights for late night walks or breaks, and an umbrella for walks to the amazing back gazebo in case it rains. Be prepared with essential groceries for your first night and morning because affordable grocery stores are difficult to find here. Buy liquor back in your home city too, for the best price and selection. Don't forget to bring bottled water for drinking, coffee making and toothbrushing if you don't like the taste of well water.
This place is unique and memorable!
A magical getaway
Wow!!!! Bill and Jo Anna’s place is truly a treasure. My friends and I wanted a beautiful getaway from the city and this place provided a tranquil experience that could not be put into words. Bill and Jo Anna were extremely nice and communicative throughout our stay. We enjoyed looking at the stars off of the dock in the backyard and saying hi to the animals on the property. The place was incredibly clean and comfortable and the grill was ready to be fired up. I would recommend this beautiful little slice of heaven to anyone!
Thank you so much. Glad to have you. Take care.
Loved the property. Kids did some fishing and enjoyed the animals!
Very peaceful location on a pond. The lodge was very clean and housed our family of 8 beautifully! Owners are very accommodating.
